Mapping Button Controls
I was trying to setup my buttons to be similar to G2, that way the transition would be smooth.
My issue is the game won't register Mouse5, smaller thumb button. I can map Mouse4 perfectly fine. Even Mouse3 (clicking the wheel) works. Any ideas how to get this one going?

Can't you configure the mouse buttons with it's own mouse (soft-)ware? That's how I do map the mouse buttons to my likes for any game.

Don't have them installed. They tend to mess up controls for me, especially games that run on the source engine. I just plug and play.
Found out that wasn't my only issue. I couldn't use the mouse to look around either.
Also, my comp won't run the game smoothly. I plan to do some upgrading in the near future. A few games I want to play require more than what I have. It's an old machine.
So I don't really need to worry until I get that up and going. I'd still like to solve this though.

Would be good if you tell us more about your PC, or is it a laptop like i would guess?
And which mouse you use?
Anyway, my first shot would be to search on the mouse manufactors homepage for the latest mouseware and try it with that.

I use Logitech's SetPoint Software for a while now and had never any problems, try to download and install that from the Logitech Homepage.

I use the Logitech Cordless MX Duo Combo, Cordless keyboard + Mouse. I have 7 buttons on my cordless mouse, the left, right and middle (Wheel Click) buttons, then 2 on the left side, plus one on the top and bottom of the scroll wheel, well 8 if you wanna include the 8th menu option button.
I am just getting to the point that all Logitech Keyboards and Mice, especially the Mice with the multi function buttons always comes with the Logitech Software CD, that installs the program to allow you to set what each mouse button does, and I also play Gothic 2 and have never had a problem with mapping out extra key options to up to 6 of my mouse buttons.
I have had this Cordless Logitech MX Duo Combo for a couple of years now and never had any problems with using them in any game I have played, and that is over 20 games at least in the past 2 years. I may not have played every game to the end, but I assure you, if you have decent knowledge of Logitech software and their keyboard/mice combo's, or even the stand alone mice and keyboards, then you should bearly ever have any problems.
I advise you to do a full install of the Mouse, and then do an update, then do a Windows update, as your problems are with the fact that your actually doing plug and play which the computer auto install of new hardware, doesn't always acknowledge every button your mouse might have.
Also, make sure that your Logitech desktop manager is always active in the Taskbar (bottom right corner of desktop screen) so that the computer knows the buttons. You wont get it to optimal working order without installing it fully.
If you have problems installing the software due to compatability, such as using Windows 7, when the software is made for windows XP, then use the Troubleshoot program in the Control Panel. You select the Programs option, then set it to locate the setup.exe file in the disc drive the install cd is in, then follow the information it provides. this program can make non-compatible programs made for windows XP, to work properly in windows 7, by it altering the settings to make the program think it is being used on that OS.
I hope this helps you out. But I always suggest that any keyboard and Mice, that come with an install CD, to always use it, not to plug and play. Thanks, and Good Luck.
