Money making skills post 1.71 CP
I tought of adding this question to my previous thread, but then again, it might be usefull for more people and the other one is a bit too long already.
In regards to the 1.71 CP, the question is simple really, which skills are good for money making but at the same time aren't a waste of LPs?
For example, I'm playing an assassin, I'm getting all the hunting skills. But what about the Smith skills?, are they worthy?
For a Warrior type of character, Smith is pretty much a must, but then, are skinning animals, reptiles and extract teeth, claws and horns useful for him?
How useful is bargain?
PS.: Also in regards to the CP 1.71, how useful is the spell "open most locks"??, is it worth it if you're not a mage?

Master Thief is the best money maker... In the Nights, you can steal to all the mercenaries when they are sleeping (Bastard sword, The axe that the mercenaries use, and the best thing is that you can steal to them over and over becouse the items respawn always. but, you must let the area and then come back for the item respawn.

Thanks InnerMoon, but two question:
1. Would it be useful for non thief characters, you know, worth getting.
2. I thought the Community Patch eliminated the respawn exploit??

For do that you need the skill Master Thief.. and believe me, if you get that skill, you are a thief.
and for the second question, yes, you can do that even with the 1.71 patch.

that's good news!, I actually thought the whole pickpocket line was pretty much useless. Althought this brings up another question,
Getting the Master Thief skill is a big LP investment. Base on what you mentioned it seems like a pretty reliable way to make money. But:
Is it enough to deny both Hunting and Smith skills?, for a thief that is...
And InnerMoon, what's your pesonal opinion on my original questions:
Are Hunting skills worth getting for a Warrior with Smith skills, just for the sake of money?
Are Smith skills worth getting for a character other than a warrior?
Finally, what's the best money-makign skill set, for a mage?
Thanks btw!

Afaik, they made it so they get lower-grade weapons when respawning them.
As for warriors and hunting skills:
A number of weapons that can be smithed require the use of Shadowwalker Horns (ore-twohander), Sabelteeth(nordmar sword), and wolfskins (broadword).
Of those, the broadsword isn't worth the effort.
While the other two require ore-rohlings.
So yeah, only worth it if you intend to make&sell those two weapons.
Which takes us to the smithing skills:
The best way of making money with it is to make Bastardswords.
They sell for 4k each, and require very little in knowledge and materials - just normal smithing, a rawsteel, and 10 ironore. Get scraper and you get 10 ironore everytime from an ironvein, while the rawsteel is common and cheap enough.
The hunting skills themselves for making money; I wouldn't rely on it. Most of the stuff doesn't sell for much, so you need to do a *lot* of hunting.
Are Hunting skills worth getting for a Warrior with Smith skills, just for the sake of money?
Imo, no.
Are Smith skills worth getting for a character other than a warrior?
Only normal Smithing and Scraper imo.
Finally, what's the best money-makign skill set, for a mage?
Smithing imo. Least LP/highest GP.

And the Smith skill... Well, I get a lot, but A LOT of money doing bastard sword... only require 10 nuggets of Iron (and if you get the skill of mining you get twice)

Thanks a bunch both!, I didn't know that some swords required skinning skills...but as you said onisuzume, they just aren't worth if smith is so self sufficient.
But now the problem is the thief, specially because I'm focusing on bow combat, which so far is really cool, butshould I just get the hunting skills which allow me to extract theet and horns? and deny skinning because of low GP income?,
In the end, for a thief/ assassin/ hashishin, what is the best money making skill?, does the Community Patch make the whole pickpocketing line useless?
thanks for the answers!

You're looking at mostly 25 gold per horn/skin.
So yeah...
I'll skip to the swords, thank you very much.
Even Shadowwalker and Troll skins don't sell for that much.

That's good to know, I originally had it the other way around
So even for a thief, smithing is still the best answer, not Master thief or any of that?
Also, can't remember if I actually asked this here or in another thread, but, how useful is "open most locks" spell??
-
Not that useful. Just learn Open Difficult Locks and you'll be fine. You get enough Open Lock scrolls from chests to use it on the impossible ones, there aren't a lot of them and the loot you get is seldom worth the effort. I dunno if they changed it in 1.7. Just make sure you have 180 mana (if using 1.7).

Thanks Snoopy!, I just realize I didn't make it clear, but when I asked about the open locks spell I was refering to its use for a mage, I mean since he already need to have a bunch of AK, I wanted to knos how useful it would be for a mage character.
And if you don't mind me asking, whats your take on the master thief skill, for an assassin in route to be a Hashishin, do you think its worth getting it? along with some smith skill?
Thanks in advance!

I've never played as a real thief tbh. Last time I played I learned Open Difficult Locks, Bargain and Make Excuses and Prospector, Hone Blade and Improve Armor (was planning but lost interest and haven't played since). As for the Master Thief skill, I dunno, I've only had money problems in the beginning, by the time I was lvl 25 I had more then enough money (thanks to smithing), but most of it came from all the loot I got, was around Geldern at that time.
As for your other question, if you're going to be a mage and don't want to spend lps on thief skills then I guess it's ok to learn it. You will still have a lot of lps to spend on other skills, even with AB on. My mate is around lvl 50 or 60 and has more then enough skills at his disposal (he didn't learn a lot of spells tho), has around 700 mana, 250+ AK, he spent lps on health, endurance, strenght, hunting, ... yeah.

thanks again Snoopy, you're on the spot there about the money making thing. I'll rely more on smithing. I'll experiments a bit later with Master Thief, but will stick with smithng for mone making purposes...
About the mage, I'll try later the open lock spell, if nothing else for the sake of variety
