Gothic 1 graphic mods?
Guten tag !
I have not posted here in a very long time. I wanted to play Gothic 1 again and wondered what graphics mods were available now. I see there are several mods in Russian and German, but I only speak English, so I thought that graphics mods should be okay for me.
Is there one mod that is better than all the others? I just learned about L'hiver for G2, and VERY much want to play it, so I thought I would play G1 again and then G2. I know about:
http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum...r-Gothic-1-2-3
...which lists 8 texture mods. I also know about Big Nature mod, which is not listed:
http://darkforests.info/pages/web/gothic1/g173.html
What mods do people suggest for G1? Are there some texture mods that work together? How well does the D3D DX11 mod work for G1?
Thank you to everybody who can help me!

I´ve started to play G1 with several mods, amongst others I love the Big Nature Mod in addition to the DX11-mod. I´ve only played some hours, but I never had any bugs or crashes.
Here you can find one of my posts with all used mods (unfortunately in german) and some attached screenshots. It still looks awesome...

You have to download the latest version of the DX11 patch from Degenerated´s Github. See his thread for the link.

Is "Die Welt der Verurteilten" texture only, or does it add german content to the game?

Yes, you´re right... It adds german content... so leave it alone.
But the rest of the mentioend mods should only be textural upgrades.

Please give a feedback if the modifications worked well and what is your opinion?

I have installed the mods in the order you listed. I will let you know in a week or so what my experience is. Thank you for your advice.

My experiences with the mods are:
1) The biggest problem is the DX11 mod. It makes the game look nicer, but it has many bugs, the game crashes a lot, it crashes when you quit the game, it crashes when you teleport... it has many problems. It crashes A LOT.
2) The Big Nature mod is wunderbar! It adds trees and plants everywhere, filling up the empty world. When the DX11 mod is fixed, all the shadows from the trees will make Gothic 1 look amazing.
3) The new item icons are beautiful. I like them a lot.
4) I don't like the new armors. I think the fire robe and water robe are too simple looking, and I really don't like the swamp camp armor with red. The old camp armor is already red. Swamp camp armor should be green. Or maybe purple.
Overall I like the mods.

Hello,
it would help with fixing these bugs if you could test, if they only appear when DX11 Mod is used in combination with the other mods, or always. If you have the time, you could install a fresh Gothic1 to a different folder and see if the problems still happen if you only use the DX11 Mod.

They only appear with DX11. When I got to the Sleeper temple I could no longer play, as the game would freeze. I deleted the DX11 files and was able to finish the game.
I watched Cloaked play Gothic 1 on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6AXEuBUaM8 . I saw that he had problems with the game crashing also when teleporting. I discovered that I could eliminate teleport crashes by reducing the VisualFX draw distance from 8 to 3. When I entered the Sleeper temple, the game froze, but when I reduced the VFXDD, it unfroze. However when I took a few steps, it froze again, until I reduced it further. After only ten seconds of moving, I had reduced it to 0 and when it froze again, there was nothing else to do.
Every time you load there's a popup from the modder saying he doesn't want bug reports, so I don't know what else to say.
EDIT
I took two pictures, but now suddenly I can't attach images? Oh well.

Ok, but do they also appear if ONLY DX11 is used, without any other mods? There have been mods with faulty models which cause DX11 to crash or disbehave.

I don't have these problems, so i can't get them fixed, i can teleport fine and also enter the sleeper temple with DX11. Do you have a savegame where you have those problems? Does this Youtuber use other mods beside DX11 and can you tell me in which video i can see the problem?

Well, i guess that warning is a bit dated.

There never was a possibility to "attach" pictures on WOP as far as i know. But you can upload pictures to WOP and put the link to them into your post.

I can test if you like, but it may be due to another issue...

...it seems my processor may be too slow for DX11:
http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum...1#post25081068 (end of post)
As for YouTube, he mentions it several times, here is just one, starting at 0:20:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUBT...ev6hw&index=18
...and here is one where it locks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fftB...ev6hw&t=13m45s
So I don't know if it's just my computer for being slow, or if it's a DX11 issue.

Well, it's still there, EVERY time you start the game.

Yes, we've attached pictures here:

Well that would help a lot. Because if it still happens, i can be 100% sure it's a D3D11-only problem.
In that thread you spoke about low fps. Low fps can indeed be caused by a slow processor, but crashes should not. If the game crashes, it's most likely a code or compatibility problem.
Ok thanks. That is helpful.

Ok, it won't be in the next version. Please ignore it till then^^
