This was in my mailbox this morning (mass e-mail):
Dear Laurel Hardy,
As you may or may not be aware but JoWooD Entertainment AG and DreamCatcher Interactive Inc. went into administration earlier in 2011.
A group of games industry veterans from Sweden, have invested in the JoWooD brand, products and selected subsidiaries with the plan to reboot lots of games, IP's and of course communities.
Nordic Games GmbH has been founded and located in Vienna, Austria, to maintain business activities. It is a privately owned company, and is part of a successful network of video game companies.
This is the beginning of a new era for all games and over the coming months, product development will start on a variety of well loved and respected brands and products.
The Nordic Games GmbH team members have been carefully selected for their enthusiasm and desire to make a successful publishing company, and their continued love and attention to the JoWooD brand and products.
In the meantime, lots of activities are happening behind the scenes, so we have felt it necessary to shut down all old sites and forums whilst we prepare.
FYI, new websites will be created and launched over the coming weeks, and rolled out in a scaled manner and as such we respectfully request your patience and understanding during this time of transition. All old forum threads and data files will be included in the re-launch.
The aim of Nordic Games is to treat the games and customers with care and attention, so let's keep one eye on the past but also one eye to the future.
// yours respectfully, The Nordic Games Team

My pre-morning coffee mind reads this as R.I.P. JoWood (in all but perhaps the name?), not R.I.P their games. Which might be, if this "Nordic Games" are any good, best for us players?

Dear NG, you failed. forum.jowood.com is still up.

Dear NG, you failed.
Paying attention to ensuring the continuance of a fine tradition of failure since 2011?

Define best for us . I suppose we'll have to see if they possess the business sense that Jowood lacked. I never thought JoWood was evil so much as just dim.

Among the game series they wanted to continue were the guild.
I'll hope we will see The Guild 3, similar to the guild 2, only stable, bug free (especially the pathfinding), better, ability to set up complex automatation of moving resources/goods between your shops and to and from market.

I wonder if we'll get a CM.
I wonder about the price range they'll reissue the games.

There is a slim chance I switched my real username for that. Just a slim.

Continuation of good gaming series in the form of keeping them in circulation in one form or the other and/or new, worthwhile installments (and handle the promotional work and PR better!). Eg. basically doing what any publisher should do. That's what I hope they'll do, let's see what we actually get.
And yeah, I agree: JoWood didn't seem so much like the epitome of evil; more like a company who got themselves into a fix and when they tried to get out, every desperate measure just got them deeper.

That and they seemed, well, out of touch with their intended audiences. End results being lukewarm products that arguably pleased nobody.

Now your cover is blown.
Honestly, the tone their email is phrased in doesn't really raise any expectations on my side. It's PR-speak from beginning to end. Probably most of it has no substance at all. [Bild: Troll_Chiller05.gif]

Everything is PR talk in official press declarations. Honesty doesn't belong there.

Shh! ...Loose talk costs lives!
Seriously though, from my experience, the way to do PR talk is take the truth, boil it down to one sentence, and embellish it with cool and meaningless phrases, half-truths, subjective evaluations passed as objective truths and hyping until it's a full A4 long. (I always love reading promo sheets that come with promo copies of albums)

Honestly. Imho they should let the gothic brand as it is. DEAD.
I for one am tired of fails.
Nordic Games? Check their site and see what games they developed.
We sing rock hits.. WTF ????
Always fight against evil ....even if it leads to your death !!!
We should meet the enemies of god !!! Do no wrong !!!

"Singalong with Xardas." It would be a win.

The situation becomes more ridiculous by the fucking day

They should autotune this for maximum effect.

Why won't Jowood just die for good? And why isn't their forum closed yet? I hope that at least Nordic Games will clear the jowood name from all registers.
What seems optimistic to me after taking a look at their site is that Nordic Games has developed only silly games until now, and most of them are for Wii. I hope they won't be able of managing what's left of jowood and that they'll have to bury it for good.

Gothic 3 and 4 is part of the reason why I faded away from the Gothic community.
Ruining the Gothic series was a terrible thing to do. I still remember the hype and hope for Gothic 3 to be good, and when Gothic 4 was announced I already knew what was coming. I am warning you, dont hope for a good Gothic 5, if anything it will be even worse and going further away from what made Gothic 1 and 2 such great and amazing games.
At least Risen seems to be on the right track, and I am looking forward to the second. The Witcher 1 and 2 are also great alternatives, despite the lack of much free roaming.
Just my 50 billion cents.
