Perhaps, but Gothic still sounds better. More rough and stuff.

There's also a game for the Nintendo DS called Touch Dic,and it has nothing to do with the...act of patting genitals,it is actually a dictionary
-
Here's some dictionary definitions of "gothic" that can easily relate to Gothic:
- Germanic; Teutonic.
- Of or relating to the Middle Ages; medieval.
- Barbarous; crude.
Just a catchy name my ass, it is catchy though.
Besides, some buildings in the world of Gothic do have elements that remind of gothic architecture.

About the name Risen, it is quite simple... Watch the opening cinematic and it is said right in it. `Something has risen` as the buildings come out of the ground...

As for Gothic... It basically just means the game is set in the medieval ages. Swords and bows and whatnot. Go to websters and look up the word gothic, it always relates to things around 12th-16th century.
Although nowadays gothic means something completely different, which may throw some people off... We all had (or were part of) that group of goths at school.

People i Gothic were goth, listening to goth music, wearing goth clothes, and they worshipped dark lord Cthulu...

sp the only ,,gothic" place was monastery in khorinis?

The castle in Gothic has a gothic architecture. I think one of them said sometime that this was part of the reason for the name (why they came up with it), and that the name did fit well with the world.

The castle in the Old Camp as RobinHood said, and I guess the temple in the epilogue of Gothic 2, of which I forgot the name, but only the interior since it's build underground.
Oh, and the creepy crypt in Gothic 2 again.

I Have played all of them, and in proper order too. (except for Forsaken gods and Arcania, but thous doesn't count).
Even while I was playing the first one, I was wondering:"Why it is called Gothic, it has nothing of gothic culture".
Buildings are more like from romanic stile not gothic
The era (if we can believe the dates on gravestones in Gothic 2) is slightly before gothic style.
Music is not gothic.
Then it must be something else. What is it?
Gothic:
relating to a medieval style of architecture
a work of fiction having a remote setting and mysterious incidents
relating to or characteristic of people that are not fully civilized
barbarian, barbaric, rude, savage, uncivil, wild
-
because of the dark and dirty feeling by playing it?!
sorry for the bad english!
-
I dunno why exactly they named it Gothic, but it's certainly a cool name and it fits with the game. They probably picked this name because they knew it would attract people.
-
Well, it does convey a feeling of crudeness, and there are certainly some rude, uncivilised and savage things in it. I think the name wouldn't fit the game if it was set in some bright and happy place, where everyone's equal and content, and civilised and stuff like that.

Because it takes place in such a barbaric place?
Gothic architecture got its name from how "barbaric" it looked, and was originally used as a pejorative term, in the 16th century.
