During the press conference at the gamescom 2010 in Cologne, Germany, Deep Silver confirmed officially that Piranha Bytes and Deep Silver are currently working on "Risen 2". Daniel Oberlerchner, brand manager of Deep Silver, also reported this in our forum.

While this is no big surprise for most people, it should discard any speculations and rumours about other projects (i.e. Gothic 5) currently developed by Piranha Bytes. The next game will definitely be a successor to Risen.

The end of Gothic for me is when the ship sunked on the way to Myrthana, because of the greedy N.H., who didn't want to throw away some gold...

I think there is not much more info for the time being (aside that it will be for PC and consoles). Here is the picture published by the site http://www.golem.de:

So far, no additional details concerning Deep Silver announcement.
May be was it made earlier than they initially planned, because of the various leakages ?

In the meanwhile, here is some information not officially confirmed (°):
    • beginning August, Piranha Bytes wanted to postpone the announcement in order to back it up with some screen shoots or even video => so this material should be soon available ?
    • it is not planned to provide a MOD kit =>
    • some very important modifications will be introduced, affecting virtually all the areas of the game => this is the standard marketing language, isn't ?
    • will be available on PC, XBOX and PS3
    • most (all ?) of the plot is already written
    • the world will be bigger
    • there will be more NPC friends
    • will still need teachers for learning (not like in Arcania)
    • will include mini-games
    • will use the "Motion Capture" technology
    • the inventory will still have infinity capacity
    • PB will have a new animated logo (do you remember the piranhas eating a poor cow ?)

(°) source Russian WoR (they have close contacts with PB and Quy in particular)

I would not get my hopes up too high on that. Daniel wrote in the german forum that this was the confirmation that they continue to develop Risen. It was not the announcement. Wordplay, of course, but nonetheless, it's the official DS position. Apparently, the decision to release this information was made at the last moment.

The force is not strong with these ones.

I wonder how that will work, will they outsource Risen 2 to two different companies or one bigger/better than Wizardbox.Risen's port came under a lot of criticism and I presume DeepSilver will want a better work especially on a harder console like PS3.

Wizarbox is in charge of porting the game to XBOX ands PS3. However, based on experience of Risen 1, I expect the threshold of quality required by Deep Silver to be increased.

Great! I hope it will be just a step up like G2 was after G1.

    @ThorTheViking

I kinda already "knew" (expected) that. Still, I think PB should focus on making new good games.. Not remakes of old ones.

PS. I think you accidentaly turned on and off caps lock while writing this. It was probably just a mistake, right?

I don't think Foobar will like it if you express it this way. Just turn off the caps and he might ignore it. Besides, I can give you a few examples of Americans who feel that ArcaniA isn't even worth mentioning as a game. Also, I don't think NH likes meatbug stew so much, none of the former convicts do. Maybe beer would be more appropriate? I also think that G3 was all right, maybe a patch to fix its combat system (and please, only a tiny patch which requires the installation of CP1.74 separately) and AI pathfinding.
