[G3] Graphics at the limit with CP v1.74 and PCGH-Ultra-Config tool

The German website PCGames Hardware (PCGH) now offers a configured ini-file with which the graphics of Gothic 3 CP v1.74 can be brought to an extreme graphical quality never seen before.

This however comes at a price: You will need a high-end PC to achieve this.

On the PCGH website you will find more than 30 screenshots made at 2560 x 1600 resolution and a HD video in 720p resolution. It shows what Gothic 3 can offer with CP v1.74.

Have a look at it here:
    http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,76...dventure/Test/

I uploaded a scene of my own G3-CP1.74 install with PCGH-config (30 seconds) which you can watch in HD 1080p: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r54xdvq6eJQ

There is no tool, there is a tweaked ge3.ini which you could place into your gamefolder/Ini/ (one should backup the original file first).

It's not tool. It's Ini file for Ultra quality. Separate versions for nVidia and ATI.

It does wonders for the view distance and detail.
The valley behind Silden turned into one of the most epic locations I've ever seen in a video game.

Unfortunately my 5850 struggles in cities and the game became more crash-prone.

I can't even imagine how the game would look like if the PBs had worked on it more.

    Here are some quick screens

i7 920 but combined with a 9800gtx+ vga results in problems. The game loads, attempt to teleport to Silden resulted in "debug error" of some kind.Walk around Ishtar froze the game.Had to restore original ini.Checked-i have installed the 1.74 patch.Probabely will wait for the new VGA.

on a i7 860 overclocked at 3.2 Ghz. a XFX HD 5850 and 4GB of kingstone 1600 Mhz it works well, after the decrease of FPS when it loads the new areas i always have over 30 FPS and the graphics are very good
the distance view detail now is also good, you don't get that line in the distance between detailed terrain and empty one

I started playing Gothic 3 with CP 1.74 and the PCGH-Config.
Indeed, G3 never looked better. Here and there I get a few lags but no crashes up to now. It looks stable.

When you stand on Jack's lighthouse and look around you can really look far in the distance without experiencing that loss of detail. There is however still that line in the sea beyond which all detail is lost.

    I'm playing it on:
    - Windows7 64bit
    - QX9650 at 3.0Ghz (so, no overclocking needed...)
    - Asus Striker II Extreme
    - 8 Gb DDR3 Ram running at 1066 Mhz
    - Geforce GTX-260
    - OCZ Vertex SSD 120Gb
Everything is relative... until it bites.

now i remember, i don't have that line because i have another modification that decreases slowly the distance detail

With my config I get around 25FPS most of the time and 18-22FPS in cities, the lowest was around 14FPS hmmm time for a defrag

And yeah its pretty stable I haven't encountered any crashes, yet.

Yeah you should.I get a bit more fps and I have the same setup as you only that the GFX is a HD5850 oc'd to 900/1225 so that should be a little bit faster than a stock HD5870.

Yeah I re-used one of my old hard drives and its really messed up i'll defrag and maybe take it out(who need XP anyway ) and i'm yet to overclock the proccesor and GFX card but I need to wait for some cooling components to arrive. I'll put in my new hard drive which I want to install Windows 7 on I hope this doesn't have any problems with 64Bit
