[Bild: hardcorechallengebannersj9.png] Hello and welcome, wary traveler. This is the Hardcore Gothic Challenge and our mantra is: Do not die and do not reload. To prevent disqualification, please take a moment to read the rules and leave all ideas of spamming behind. Thank you.
#1: This is a no reloads game which means that whatever choices you make, you made 'em and that's it. You save when you stop playing and load when you start playing again. When you die it's game over.
#2: Please leave thread-destructive comments like "Playing this way is stupid" or "You're missing the whole point of Gothic" aside. This method of playing is for experienced and very patient players as it requires a lot of forward planning. So if you don't like it, don't do it.
#3 When you want to participate, make a clear statement on it and an introductory post where you'll put your character build (more on this later) and if you plan on roleplaying, some personality info.
#4 Clearly mark your official character diary posts with a headline like "Huntsman's Hardcore Dragon Hunter" so that they are easy to find amongst other user comments.
#5 DO NOT CHEAT, THIS IS FOR FUN ONLY. No one will win big bucks or ultimate respect for beating the game with a mage in a day or killing a dragon snapper at lvl 1.
#6: Mods that don't change the storyline are allowed, and listed in the "Modded Games" section.
#7 BY TAKING PARTICIPATION IN THIS CHALLENGE YOU ARE OBLIGED TO CLEARLY MARK THE POST WHERE YOU STATE YOUR CHARACTER'S DEATH OR VICTORY OVER THE CHALLENGE IN LARGE, COLORED FONT
TIPS
#1 Be very careful and plan your every move.
#2 If you're not sure you can handle it...RUN!
#3 Don't hesitate to ask for advice in this thread like "Do you guys think I could do the black troll at lvl 25 with Large Fire Storm?"
#4 Do not attack enemies in groups. Lure every enemy, no matter how weak it/he is.
#5 In hardcore brave = stupid and dead in most cases.
#6 Idle hands are devil's playground. If you suddenly feel like risking it for quick booty - call it a day.
#7 Don't go near cliffs and when you do - walk instead of run. There is a great chance you could fall and end your adventure in a stupid way. After all, it's realistic to slip up in an unknown, steep mountain path.
#8 Do not have mercy for your enemies. Never let it attack, always keep it at a distance and use all power that you have available.
BENEFITS OF HARDCORE
#1 Everything seems different. The dialogues, the world, the enemies, it's a whole new Gothic experience. Recommended for players who've already beaten Gothic with every character and know their way around.
#2 When an NPC tells you "Wow, you're brave!" there's a great chance you'll really feel this way, even if it's not much, because you're putting your life on the line here and not just reloading 10 times until you make 2 critical hits in a row in order to kill the enemy.
#3 You just wanna read through all the dialogues...again. Trust me.
#4 Makes you feel real and alive.
#5 You won't feel guilty for knowing the game and it's secrets, weapons and being good at it. This is where it all counts.

Thank you for the information
But the dragons are regenerating health so if i use rain of fire i will have either to buy more than 2 scrolls or use potions which gives a lot of time to the dragon to regain health. Also ( i think) a summoned golem can easily die by the dragon
No one said anything about golems, but a single demon can kill a dragon on it's own.
Another possibility would be a Dragonsnapper transformation scroll. I'm not sure if it's strong enough for the Ice Dragon, but it can definitely kill any of the other dragons in the Valley of Mines.
Anyway i will try when i reach that chapter.
By the way when should i go to jhakendar? before or afte Chapter 2??
As a militia man, you should first go to the VoM to get the heavy milita armour.
Are you playing a melee character? Because if that's the case, you want to enter the third chapter as late as possible because the Seekers are extremely dangerous for melee characters. If you're ranged character you can deal with the Seekers reasonably well, so I would do some leveling on the easier monsters and quests in the VoM and Jharkendar and then go into the third chapter so you can become a paladin.
In other news, I've started another try at the no equipment challenge.
If you haven't read my earlier posts, the challenge is to play Gothic 1 without using any weapons, armours, rings and amulets (the only exception is of course that I can use a bow to activate the target marks in the Orc Temple).

I started a new game, I took all the stuff from Xardas tower and when I went upstairs I saw beliar's statue and I thought about praying to get some gold.Fortunately I didn't because I remembered from the last time that I lost hp for nothing.Anyway, I went out and met Cavalorn did his quest, took the letter and went to Lobart's farm. There I did all the quests and bought the farmer's suit for 30 gold pieces. After that I killed some young wolves and small bloodflies that were around the farm and the 4 young file raiders. It was generally pretty easy, then I met greg, I gave him my clothes to get in the town, i used the pass to get inside.I took the quests from all the masters to complete them.I visited the whole town except for the tavern where Moe is in front.I didn't try to go there yet because I thought that he is still too strong for me to defeat.I took the quest for the missing people from Vatras, I gave Lares the ornament that I took from Vatras, I gave Cavalorn's letter, I trained my DEX to 20, learned how to sneak and found a sword(you know the one which needs 20 DEX).After that I went to see Ignaz the potion brewer. He gave me the oblivion spell and I also bought from him a sleep spell.I used the sleep spell to put the guard in front of Matteo's warehouse to sleep, I took everything from the 2 chests including the clothes with the leather armor.I sold everything I didn't need to Matteo to get some gold. I went out of the city to gather the herbs for Constantino and in the meanwhile I killed 5 wolves for Bosper (i need 1 more).I gave the herbs to Constantino,I took from Lares the quest "the easy way to the militia" which I completed. Finally I talked to Farim the fisherman and completed his quest and talked to a lot of citizens for "the missing people" quest.
You are TheWonderer?! Holy shit dude!!!
But still, how did you pull that off? On the video it seems as though you never even touched him, and yet he falls dead. Did the ice golem damage him? I undertand the save and load thing, but what did the damage on the fire golem?

Things are going very smoothly for me. Next up is the orc graveyard, which is quite dangerous since in many cases it's impossible to take out the orcs from afar.

No, Blubbler isn't TheWonderer. TheWonderer's name on these forums is (surprisingly) "TheWonderer"

Today I talked to Lares again and took the quest for the easy way to the mercenaries to earn more exp.I went to see skip and completed his trade with Baltram, I did Nagur's quest in order to join the thieves' guild, i also failed the quest "A Brazen thief" to join the thieves' guild. After that I went out of the city to gather one more skin for Bosper, I went to the "Dead Harpie" Tavern where I did the "drinking contest" quest with Rokhar but I failed because i forgot to get the gin from his chest before i give him the money for the bet. After that I went towards the Monastery where I found the magician Isgaroth I took his blessing and killed the beasts in the road. After that i talked to Erol about the stone tablets quest. For this quest I am quite proud of.I went to Akil's farm where were the mercenaries and i crossed the bridge where were a lot of bandits.I provoked the bandits to attack me and i drove them to Akil's farm where they had a crazy Free-for-all fight :P.Anyway all the bandits and mercenaries died and one of the farmers too but who cares :P. I took the stone tablets from the bandits, I did the quests in Akil's farm and I talked to Erol again, he increased by strength by 1. After that i returned to the city, I told Bartok to go hunting with me and so we did.Unfortunately he died but it didn't matter.I went to Boper and gave him the skins, talked to Thorbern for the blessing and gave to Harad the orc sword that i found in a cave.I became an apprentice of Harad to get easy money.I went to Onar's farm on the way i killed all the beast except for the boars and the lurkers. Also I lost the quest from Greg for finding his gold.I wasn't in a mood of doing it:P. I defeated Buster in a duel and Fester too.I payed Senteza 50 gold and beat Rod with his own weapon:P. I took the test for the mercenaries I talked to Cord and took the quest for his friend patrick while he dealt with the test which was with the militia.I went to the bandit's camp, i talked to Dexter, we talked then Greg showed up and Dexter and I fought.I killed him, went back to Cord and Torlof told me that I am ready to join the mercenaries.Of course I wanted to join the militia so I went back to the city of Khorinis.
Questions:
When should I face the bandits where Elvrich is?
Also when should I go and find the bandits that have Halvor's message?
What spells should I use?I am thinking of buying the fire rain scroll and the summon golem and demon scroll to kill the bandits in Jack's lighthouse, the bandits where Elvrich is and wargs behind Bengar's farm, but if I use them I will not have powerful scrolls for later. So what should i do?

No, I'm not TheWonderer, I just improved on his speedrun (on which he improved again).
The Ice Golem attacks you with Ice Arrows after it has frozen you. So you have to lure the Fire Golem towards you in a way that the Ice Golem freezes you, the Fire Golem is in front of you and absorbs the Ice Arrows targeted towards you.

Questions:

I'd wait until you have the heavy milita armour (which can be bought from Engor in the castle in the VoM), then you should be able to kill them without having to waste any scrolls.
Don't spend strong scrolls such as Summon Demon or Rain of Fire on opponents that you don't actually have to kill. Save them for strong opponents that you have to kill for the main quest.
The bandits at Jack's lighthouse are very strong and you shouldn't attack them until you're a paladin and at the very least level 20.
Game: Gothic 2 NotR Name: Sokras Guild: Militia Level: 8 Chapter: 2 (beginning) Play time: 8h 12min Near death experiences: Field Raider,Bandits where Lucia left her letter, guard at warehouse.

Today I joined the militia, found Peck and he gave me a weapon. After that I took from Lord Andre the quest "weed package" which I still cannot complete because the guard is damn difficult ( I even transformed into a snapper to kill him but with one swing of his sword i was left with only one fifth of my health).I talked to lord hagen and entered chapter 2.After that i talked to Vatras about the missing people and told him about Raven and he told that I am ready to join the "Ring of water".I joined it I took Vatras' letter to Isgaroth and as a reward from Vatras I chose the Ice arrow( I think that I will use it later).I made some weapons which I sold to Harad and reached 2000+ gold pieces. I went over to Onar's farm where I explored the woods and killed most of the monsters except for the wargs and the goblin skeletons which I drove to the bandits that had Lucia's letter to kill each other.Eventually everyone died and I killed the las goblin skeleton remaining with a "destroy undead" spell scroll.I took the letter to Elvrich, I went to Ignaz and bought all of his transformation scrolls and so I was left with only 400 Gold :P.The only thing that I have forgotten doing is paying a visit to Lester who is still at the forest near Xardas' tower. After that I don't know how to proceed because I can't do the quest with the weed package and I am thinking of going to VoM or trying to open the portal for Jhakendar. What should I do firstly?VoM, Jhakendar or something else??
Zitat von Der_Jonn

WHAT???!! 20 level???? LOL i will never be able to get that high:P
I died again
This time, I was killed by a guard at the Free Mine. That place is really scary when you have zero protection and no melee weapons. Not sure yet if I'll try again. Maybe I'll play a bit of NotR or Risen next.

Lvl 20? I beat their asses lvl 7 and i bet i could easily do it at lvl 1.
I don't see how it's possible to safely kill the bandits at the lighthouse at level 1 without scrolls. But if you've found some trick to do that, I'd be eager to hear it.

Today I went to Lester who was in the forest near Xardas and killed all the beasts and in the cave too. Then I decided to go to VoM. I killed a few on the way there and I decided to go to the river which at the side of the road towards the Old Camp. There I killed two lurkers and then I went a bit further in the small island and 4 bloodflies and a lurker atacked. That was my death sentence.I am leaving this to anyone who will come by here and learn my stor........
All in all I died:P
And now I have to start over:P
Anyway this time I will spend my LP better and try to make a Dexterity Paladin.
I have read a lot in your diaries you all post here in the hardcore threads. It is nice and fun to read, great work!!
I have the feeling to play my current game (Divinity II Ego Draconis) over again, but this time on hardcore!
I never do it this way ... but I find "the idea of playing hardcore" very great!
I always never loved it to "cheat" in games, so I wish to never reload over and over again for having better loot or something. I take all like it comes, that's for me the most funny way to play, always !!
I have a lot of patience ... but not so many free time to play
I never played any Gothic game, but now I play on Xbox and Gothic 4 will be on xbox too, I ponder over it to buy Gothic 4 and play it from the first start on hardcore mode ... Don't know or that will be possible for me ...
Are here players who should play Gothic 4 on Xbox? Or only on PC?
Near Death experience: Demon in Gotha, Orcs in Vengard, Orcs in Montera.
I've been all around Myrthana, liberated Montera and Gotha, and driven the orcs from Vengard (wich was no easy task). I also got the Robe of Adanos from the temple where Saturas is. I haven't been to see Xardas yet though. Level 55 at the moment, with heavy Rebel armor.

Gothic 4 looks like it will be an offline WoW. I'd rather play Gothic 1 and 2.
