Hi Capati,
and "Welcome to the forum"
Could you please be a little bit more specific?
What text files do you speak about?
What kind of translation do you mean?
If you are new in Risen modding be adviced that there's no mod kit available
and every user generated content (apart from texture) will be "a little bit" difficult to be integrated into Risen. (sry for my horrible english- I'm not a native speaker...)

I assume you speak another Language than the ones available in Risen (English, French, Italien, German, Spanish and for other versions Polish and Russian)?
And you bought Risen in one of these versions. But now that you're speaking a different language you want the subtitles (and then also item descriptions etc?) to be written in your own language.
As far as I know that's a bit compilicated. I don't think you can just add a new language. You'd have to change one of the available languages to your desired one. Of course the game would have to be set to this language somehow (user.ini or xml or sth).
To change the texts, get "Risenaut", "RisenTab", "RisenCSV" and "RisenPak".
Open the archive "Strings.pak" and extract your desired files (for items that would be "focus.tab" and "items.tab". I don't know which ones for subtitles, you'd have to find that out for yourself). Then you just convert them by dragging them over "RisenTab". Now you can open them with Notepad and edit the texts. When you're done, just drag the edited files over "RisenCSV" and they are convertet to tabs again (just delete the "0" at the end.) and you can pack them with "RisenPak". Rename the new archive in "Strings.p00" or "Strings.00" (depends on your version) and it should be done!
Edit: Subtitles are in "infos.tab"Geändert von |Lorn| (15.05.2010 um 12:13 Uhr)

Sorry for my english too. But, thanks Shak-otay and |Lorn| for reply.
I don't need to add a new language, like the |Lorn| told, I just have to translate the english files. I started a project with a group of peoples to translate all text of Risen (menu, subtitles, etc).
Yes, I speak another language, so I use the english files to translate to my own language (portuguese).
|Lorn|, that all I need.
Thanks again.

What I meant was, of course, that it is impossible (as far as I know) to add new languages to Risen. So you'll have to exchange one of the languages. Taking in consideration that you're a portuguese speaker, you could just "kill off" the German strings and rewrite them in portuguese. Just look at the files, you'll see what I mean. You have to install the game of course then in the language you exchanged (maybe you should take English because then the spoken language would be in English instead of German).
Good luck!

Hi all. Maybe I'am wrong, but why it is impossible to add new language ? I think it is very easy... All what is needed, it is :
1. Unpack strings.pak with RisenAut.
2. Convert tab files using RisenTab.
3. In result, we will have csv files. You can easy edit them in MS (or Open) Office Excel as usual text table. For example screenshot of edited texts in one of the tab files (we added to the english and german language - russian too, to make translation process more simple) :
4. After you will finish edit them, then you must save files. But you must click on "Save" button (I am about Excel) and when it will ask to save in this "strange" format, you must click on yes, otherwise it will save it in xls format what is not supported by Nico's RisenCsv and by the game.
5. After csv files was saved without problems, you can use RisenCsv program to convert all files to ".tab" back.
6. Then you just need RisenPak to pack all tab files back (You will have in result new strings.pak, but is is recommended to use strings.p00, strings.p01 and e.t.c. without replacing original file). Also you must know that "p0x" will works only after you will install official patch 1.10 .
7. If you are added for example, some - "newlanguage", then you must edit also configuser.xml and add to there new lines about your language in <game...> section. For example :
Code:<Game AutoSave="true" Difficulty="1" EnableTutorialSystem="true" InvertMouseY="false" RetroQuestMessageSystem="false" ShowFocusHighlights="true" ShowFocusNames="true" ShowSubtitles="true" UserPageMode="7" > <Language SubtitleLanguage="English" VoiceLanguage="English" > </Language> ...
Code:SubtitleLanguage="English"
8. If default font will not support your language, you can install new one using Custom Font Installer.
Probably that's all. Good luck.#Stand With UkraineGeändert von LordOfWAR (16.05.2010 um 12:28 Uhr)
