Can't open configfile!

The title is the first message i get, when i try opening Gothic 3. Then follows "g_App::Create failed: Can't create apllication singleton. Chek log for more infos." At first i thought; "Pff, another crash, guess I'll have to reinstall again". That did not work. I try to patch the game from 1.6.... to 1.7... Nothing. I try to find the aforementioned log file, I must have gone blind, because i cannot find it. Any ideas what might be wrong? I have become quite fond of Gothic, and I do not want to miss my daily dosis.

I run a Windows 7, and the computer should be powefull enough, seeing as it has run Gothic with the best possible graphical settings.

I want to appologize for any possible stuppidity and repetition of previously anwered questions.

This crash may be caused by incorrect display settings (current resolution or refresh rate) in the UserOptions.ini file. Open a text editor and set manually proper values of the following parameters: Resolution.Width, Resolution.Height and Resolution.RefreshRate.

I can't find an UserOptions.Ini file. I found a section in the ge3 file, which carried the same name, but it only allowed me to adjust what it meant to have graphic configurations on; low, medium, high and very high, not to adjust what the current settings were. I tried searching for an useroptions file, and i found one, but it was for "Forsaken Gods". Tried copying that file figuring the engine would be the same, which yielded no result at all. That may be the problem...

By the way, what is the correct refreshrate? The update speed for the screen is 60HZ, so the refreshrate is 60?

Try to look for a file UserOptions.ini here:
C:\Users\<Your name>\Documents\Gothic3 (Vista/Win7).
This file must be created at the first Gothic 3 run if in the file ge3.ini value of parameter 'IgnoreUserOptions' set to 'false' (default setting).
Remove from this folder copied from FG file UserOptions.ini and allow G3 to create a new one with default settings.

Well, it is not there... What would happen if i told it to ignore useroptions?

I can't say what would happen because I never tried that. Let's set the default value for this parameter (IgnoreUserOptions=false).

N.B.: When G3 unable to find a UserOptions.ini file then it creates a new one with default settings even if IgnoreUserOptions=true.

I'm impressed, that you figured out that I that might have been a problem.
But somehow the game does not create i file, could i create one manually, or would you be so kind as to upload yours, oh Father of Helpfulness?

It's very strange why game don't create this file. Maybe you haven't a sufficient rights to create into your own profile?

There is a contents of default UserOptions.ini file for the Russian version of Gothic 3:

- You should adjust values of the some parameters manually, at first settings for your own language (VoiceLanguage and SubtitleLanguage).

True, it is very true, i do not have sufficient rights to save files in my own profile, or at least some parts of it. That is to say, that i cannot change the ge3 file, without copying it to desktop, change the copy, move the copy back, delete the original file in the process, and even then i have to override an administrator ban on such actions with my own administrator rights... I have absolutely no idea why, but I suspect that automate actions by programs may not be able come around the block. The only mystery would then be, why this did not occur at an earlier point? Why could i play gothic for some time before this happend?

But i will sit down and try to figure out how I make this computer recognize my authority and thus the authority of any program that carries my seal.

Edit: Problem was in the adminstrator rights. I could not change anything localized in the "boot"folder. I had to move the entire Gothic-folder to my desktop, where i had the rights to modify everything. Thank you, if you had not said that, it would never had occured to me,
