Unlearn Master Sword Fighter
Is there anyway at all to unlearn Master Sword Fighter? Any cheat or hack? I know there are cheats to learn skills but I absolutely have to get rid of this skill as it makes the game unbearable and I don't have an old save game to go back to. I don't care if I get the learning points back, I just have to get rid of this skill so I can fight again.
I've tried just dropping the difficulty to easy to try and offset this skill but trying to fight an orc on easy with master swordfighter is still much harder than fighting an orc on hard without master sword fighter.
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, command to unlearn of unnecessary skills doesn't exist. You may try to reset characteristics of the hero with pressing F8 key, but it will lead to transition of many active quests in a "failed" status.

Use the axe type weapons such as halebard or Krush Imrak (300 strength required but no skills, get it during a Silden mission but to finish you need to give the weapon away).

2 Arzhur:
No more desinformation, please. Irmak's halberd (Krush Irmak) requires 400 strength (380 strength with AB enabled) and Heavy Weapons I skill. Another orc weapons (swords, axes and halberd) requires Heavy Weapons II and III skills.

What about if I switch to using two weapons? Does the stupid KD ability carry over to that as well? I haven't trained it at all but I easily could. I'm going to try this f8 idea later and see how bad it messes up the quests, I don't keep many quests on the go at one time so maybe it'll work for me.
I feel kinda stupid because I tried playing this game in 2006 and I think this is why I had stopped last time and this time I've already cleared all of Mrytana and Nordmar so it would suck to end up stopping again because of this. I wished I'd remembered earlier that one of the skills severly weakens your character. Are there any other dangerous skills that I should remember to never train?
Thanks for the help and quick replies.

Yes, learning Dual Wield changes the situation as far as I remember, at least level one of this skill.

Dangerous...I wouldn't tell Master Sword Fighter a dangerous skill. But sure, it's annoying, something you need to get used to.
Never mind. I don't know of other similar skills. If you haven't installed the current patch (community patch 1.73) there are some bugged skills only.

What is it about this skill that's a problem? I have never heard of this but I'm starting a new game and would like to know about it. TIA.

It makes it so you knock human/orc's down when you hit them. Which is annoying for two reasons, one you can't hit them while they are down so it makes fights take longer since you have to wait for them to get back up.
Secondly, when they get back up unless you move away they will always hit you (regardless of it you're blocking or not). If you move away while fighting more than one at a time you'll get your ass kicked by everyone else who will start attacking you the second the first one hits the ground.
So basicly getting master sword fighter means you either have to take a lot more hits or slowly lure people out so you can kill them one at a time. Fighting large groups becomes essentially impossible.

OK, thanks for clarifying that.

I tried pressing f8 to remove all the skills but sadly it seems to only reset player stats and not skills so I loose all my strength and magic and such but all skills remain. I tried reading the site for something that lets me completely reset the character and I can't find anything. Is there perhaps something I'm missing that would let me wipe out all skills?
I really want to keep playing this game but there is no way I'll ever play through it with this skill. I suppose I could restart but I'm already mostly finished and I don't think I'd care to do that. I still have to try out using two weapons or maybe just transitioning to a mage. I'd really like to be able to use a sword again though if anyone can think of some way to restore that ability I'd really appreciate it.

Not without any side effects. Therefore I didn't post it. The command dispose deletes all your skills and also your complete inventory. You could learn the other skills again with cheats but even so I wouldn't recommend this cheat. Some users told of problems with later dialogues and quests after using this cheat.
A cheat to unlearn one single skill doesn't exist in the game.

Yes, switch to duals. I always use duals. You can keep opponents away with the whirlwind attack and you can easily fight multiple foes.

If you decide to use this cheat, you should put all items from your inventory in a chest and pick them up after you're done. otherwise you might lose some quest-items as well.

Just a question, how many of the Gothic 3 perks are really mixed blessings or even curses? I remember that when I spent most of my lps on hunting and archery, by the time I was a master archer with more than 220 hunting skill, I seemed to be unable to hit as well as before. Easy targets became harder to hit and they seemed to take less damage. Does this really happen?
The same thing happened when I used crossbows - master crossbow seemed to hurt my guys aim and leathality.
What is up with that?
Does gothic 3 screw you when you get to the "master" level?

I thought those sword skills simply add some damage to your attacks. Never encountered the knock down problem. Could you please elaborate? It does seem a bit strange, even after reading the whole thread.

Without ranting about it I don't think there is much to add. I think I was pretty clear in my last post about it. Mater sword fighter forces you to work much harder to kill someone. If you google it you'll see other people have mentioned the same thing on other sites as well.
Some people like it because it adds more strategy to the fights but in general I expect an ability to make my character better in some way. For me this "skill" renders the game unplayable and it stopped me from finishing it years ago. It may stop me from from finishing it now as well, eventually I'll try two swords or using the suggest cheat to wipe my character clean but there is no way I'll play through the rest of the game with this skill, it's completely killed my interest in the game.
It's something I wish the CPT would have addressed but at the same time I can see why they wouldn't since I'm sure it's functioning as they intented. I just think it was a REALLY bad design decision.

I don't need god mode. I'd already been to Braga and the nomads outside the city will happily teach me so I just teleported there and learnt it. It's close enough to a fix for me, I still would really like to unlearn master sword fighter but it seems the only way to do that may break the game so I'll pass for now. The game is playable again with dual-wield.
Thanks for the help everyone. Got a lot of replies quickly which was really nice. Great community here.
