Problem with Gothic 3 at Startup

Hi, I've been trying to look in the official website for help, but there was no place to ask. And I don't know if anyone else did report this problem because I don't understand German and the Search button always redirect me to a german forum. So I apologize if I'm making an already anwered question.

I've recently bought Gothic 3 Gold Edition, with Forsaken Gods expansion. The game currently runs perfectly, and there seem to be no problem other than the fact that my screen goes totally black and it says "No signal", like if I had disconnected my monitor. I can hear the background music from the initial movies from JoWood, and even the menu, so the game is running; but I don't know why I cannot see anything. It has nothing to do with resolution, as I changed it editing UserOptions.ini, trying 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480... and still the same problem.

Looking all over the internet I found nothing related to my problem, and I even downloaded the official patch, new drivers from ATI website... but it's still the same. So I would feel rather grateful if any of you could help me to solve this issue.

P.D. - Sorry, I forgot to tell about my PC.

I have an ATI X550, AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1gb RAM DDR and a Hanns G Monitor. Hope this is enough. Thanks anyway

    §welcome here Arzakon.

Did you enter the same resolution to the ini-file as your monitor uses? As far as I know that's quite important for the game.

Well, I tried that, but I noticed that whenever I start Gothic 3 again, the UserOptions.ini file resets back to default options (1024x768). Anyway, I'll try changing my desktop resolution... maybe it'll work.

Edit: I tried changing my desktop resoltion to 1024x768, trying to match the one in UserOptions.ini, and it still doesn't work. Maybe the monitor message will be helpful:

"Sin señal, comprobar cable de vídeo" ===> "No signal, check video cord/wire/cable" (Not sure about the correct translation of the last word).

    2 Arzakon:
    1. Maybe you're set in UserOptions.ini refresh rate which not supported by video driver or monitor? Look at the value of parameter Resolution.RefreshRate. As a last resort delete file UserOptions.ini and start game.
    2. Did you check it in the another games? Your monitor disconnecting too or not?

I also tried changing refreshrate (between 0 and 4). But, finally, I managed to make the game run after a couple of searchs within this forum. I opened ge3.ini in the main folder to change Fullscreen to false, so I could play it in windowed mode.

But now... I have another problem o_O. First, I needed to change cache to 3gb min/ 4gb max, just because I had the "Where is the guru" problem (it was quite weird, an annoying too :P). After modifying the virtual memory, the game finally worked, except for one thing: when the gameplay starts, I see everything in red: no textures, just the names... and the weapons. I can see the weapons, but everything else is covered by shining red. I do not even know what would be the problem right now. I'm starting to think I need more RAM or something like that.

But I've read on the Internet that the graphic engine is similar (or the same, don't know) as Oblivion, and I have played Oblivion without any problem like this.

Anyway, thanks for all your helpful answers. I'll keep trying... at least for a few days.

Edit: Sorry about the last question, I forgot :P. No, I've never had this problem. I had something similar with a Linux distro (Ubuntu 8.10), but it was because of the resolution, and the message of the monitor was not the same (it just told me resolution was out of limits). I just cannot understand why in windowed mode it runs OK (well, it RUNS, but not ok), but in fullscreen mode my monitor thinks it's disconnected. Quite... strange.

Edit2: It works! Finally! It was so easy, after all. I changed detail to low, and voilà! . Well, I'm going to kill orcs, for Innos! . Thank you all

Edit3: (Another one :P). I've noticed that whenever I play Gothic 3 on Windowed Mode, the UserOptions.ini sets the refresh rate to 43, even if I try to change it. So, after all, it seems that the problem was the refresh rate. So the question is, how can I change UserOptions.ini and prevent the game from modifying it? When I tried playing it on Fullscreen, the refresh rate was set again to 0. Even if I change the file to Read Only, the game seems to ignore it. What can I do about this? I'm sure that if I manage to force the game to recognize the edited ini file, I'll have everything working fine.
