I'm running Gothic 2 in Win7 and it works almost perfectly. There is one glitch though, the surround 5.1 sound is not working. Even though the game allows me to choose the speaker setting, it doesn't allow me to change the provider. I tried to add extended providers from the ini, but it seems that whatever I change to provider, when I restarted the game, it's always back to Miles.

Does anybody know how to get it working in Vista/Win7?

My soundcard is SoundBlaster X-Fi Extreme and ALchemy does not help.

tri reinstaling the game , but it might not make any diference.

Other providers than miles can lead to other problems, so you should stick to miles anyway. (Not a real solution, i know. ^^)

It does, for me. And it's crap. It all sounds as within an echoing cave, rendering some sounds very quiet. Don't like it one bit.

EAX fixed the problem, I can't remember any issues in sounds but you guys might be right.

Whenever I change the provider to Creative EAX or Directsound3D HW, it switches it back when I restart.

I'm using Win7 32-bit. Which one you were using?

Sorry for the late response! I totally forgot about this thread.

Anyways what you could try is to open your gothic.ini file (located in your gothic 2\system folder if I'm not mistaken)

And in there find this line under [Sound]:

extendedProviders=0

and change the 0 to 1.

Now start up Gothic 2 and go to the audio settings, and there should be some new providers available, like EAX 2.

I can't think of anything else at the moment.

Edit: ah I see you already tried that. Sorry! I use windows XP and haven't experienced any problems. When I think of anything I'll let you know.
