This demo is new. There was no english demo before.
-
Yes, it's new. I played it only with the subtitle patch.

puhh,.. k.. I did't do anything wrong^^ (that sounds funny)...

wtf? why a g2 demo? why now? are tehy trying to make fun of the english speaking community?
we were or are still waiting on a sign regarding the addon, and they release a demo of g2?
-
Maybe they want to support the release of the addon in a few Europ.. (f*** what is the word?) foreign but not normal English speaking countries because the rights of this markets arn't sold to an other publisher.

Europ.. (f*** what is the word?).
european?
Hm, Nico has written in Jowood forum:

Correct me if I'm wrong (any Italians here?)..
As far as I know, you can choose between English, French, Spanish and Italian (subtitles and videos?) in the multi-lingual setup - at least in Gothic II (retail).
Maybe someone who has this addon can say something about it.
-
Yes European.
I think this addon isn't released?

Oops.
Nico meant Gothic 2, not the addon which i meant. But it will be released next time in Italy. So one of them can say how it is when they have the addon.

I don't know if that what he wrote is correct: Older WoG.News:
A completely localized version of Gothic II has finally been released in Italy.
According to RPGDot the Addon "Night of the Raven" will be released as a localized version under the name "La Notte del Corvo" in April.
Also France will get an (English) Gothic II version with French subtitles on March 25 published by Bigben Interactive. The Add-on and the Gold Edition will follow later this year.
RPGDot also reports about an English version of Gothic II with Spanish subtitels that will be released on February 20 or March 11 by Nobilis Iberica. They also mentioned they want to ship "Night of the Raven" later this year. #

The reason why the demo is released now is easy to explain. Atari screwed up the European release. They put G2 on the shelves without any marketing support, not even a PR and of course no demo. Now JoWooD rereleases G2 in as many markets as possible to (a) create a market for the add-on, which can´t be successfull without a certain installed base, (b) get through with G2, TNotR and Gold Ed. before G3 comes out and (c) hype G3. A demo is a cheap way to create interest.
The biggest problem is that G2 is ageing quickly. It´s so incompatible to the latest graphics cards that _I_ wouldn´t dare to sell it without a new patch.

sory to have to tell you this, but there is no coherent marketing strategy comming out of what you are saying. and i know because i'm making marketing strategies!
-
Gorath, is that you? (I mean THE Gorath from RPGDot!)
Small sidenote: I saw an add at the movies in Metropolis(Big cinema -24 rooms- in Antwerp). So it's not entirely correct that Atari never did anything to release it. It is just to say that they didn't give it the proper respect, since they wanted to bet on that horrible "Enter the Matrix" stuff.

Who cares if it´s coherent? Atari didn´t do much, and now JoWooD has less than one year to make as much money out of G2 as possible. When Gothic 3 comes out G2 is officially old.
They probably decided that the demo will have more than enough positive effect on the sales numbers to compensate for the money needed to create the demo. The rest has to be done by the local partners.

the money needed to create the demo.
???
i realy don't think they needed much for that! and btw, G3 will be big if the promotional (mkt) strategy will be big! and i don't mean big as in huge budget, but big as in smart, out of the box thinking, planning and promoting!
-
Perhaps if we would send some of our ideas for marketing for Gothic 3, it will have more impact.
