Hello all,

I am having a slight problem with Gothic 3. I have played the game to the point where I am about ready to beat it. However I have encountered where Milten has not reached the Monastary so I can not get the last chalice. I understand that I can still beat the game without the fire chalice mission but I want to complete everything, so we arrive at the problem.

I am running the game on Vista 32 bit. I have done everything mentioned on pretty much every forum on this site to access the cheat console, however when I press the ~ or any other key on my keyboard I get nothing. I have changed the necassary files and have disabled all Vista protection features to no avail. I have even disconnected the infrared reciever to remote control and still nothing. I know I have this same problem accessing the in game command console on Rome Total War so I think a Vista problem. If any one can help me with this I would be very greatful.

Alternativy if anyone knows another (other than cheating) that I can find Milten and complete the mission I would be most greatful for that as well.
Sorry for the long windeness of this thread but I wanted to put as much detail in at as possible so as not to waste anyones time with ideas that have already been tried.

Welcome here

First, to make sure the test mode is activated, open the ge3.ini file. If the TestMode=true , then the problem lies elsewhere. If it's still on =false, means the bloody Vista still tries to protect it's virginity.

If it's =true, could you tell us more about your keyboard? Do you have a laptop/notebook or a desktop. Is the keyboard something special (like with 333 keys, lcd screen, etc). Maybe it uses a special driver that messes things up.

The file reads TestMode=true. I turned off most the stupid Vista protection BS. So I dont' think that is it. The keyboard is a standard HP keyboard that comes with any HP Desktop Media Center computer. Again I did turn off all the infrared controlers so its not that either. Other than that there is nothing special about my keyboard that I am aware of.

To help furhter diagnose the problem, I checked it with another keyboard. Same results. I still can not bring up the console pressing the ~ or by pressing anyother key.

Does it have an EN layout? Do you use another language except English as input language?

Another thing: do you use a patch for G3?

If Milten ran away by a bug, then you can cheat without any problem. After that you can disable the cheat mode again.

When you 've open the console, you must scribe "goto Milten". And then press ENTER.

Edit: another idea: inside the game, try pressing Left Ctrl and S

Yes I use an English layout. And yes I can press ctr s and all those other key combinations to bring up other features and editing tools in the game just not the consol.

On another note I have the community patch 1.6.

So the testmode is working...

There was a problem with the console's menu in patch 1.6, but the console should still open.
I don't have any ideas. Except trying XP, or trying with another patch, like 1.5.2. Which are more complicated solutions and I'm not sure they'll work.

Afaik, those keys are coded in the game's binaries, no way to configure them.

First I want to thank you all for your help, and second since we can't seem to solve the problem with cheating. Does anyone know the route Milten takes to get to the Monastary. Or does his change with each game. Some general guidlines to help me find him by running around looking for him would be of great help. So far I have had no luck... Which brings another question can he die? I know I saw him getting attacked near Farring? (the one that borders Nordmar) and I helped kill what ever it was but I am curious if he could have got attacked again and died. Thanks again for your help.

Is Gorn and Diego missing too?
I had this problem in my first game and I needed to start all over cause I lost the ring of Adonos in Gotha.
If you have time read this:

I paid 2000 gold for the prisoner (Gorn) but there was no one as newbie as I was had difficulty in killing all the undead in gotha so I made it runing to the deamon of gotha. It was easy to kill so I did it.i did NOT took the ring from the deamon cause I was in a run.

That happend because I did not spoke to Lester the First day or something like this.
