How can I install Gothic I manually?

Solution: Try to copy the contents of both CDs to your harddrive using "Unstoppable Copier" using this download. Unzip it and create a new folder. Start the tool by double-clicking on "Unstopcp.exe", put CD 1 in the cd-drive and search in Source -> Browse the cd-drive. Search subsequently in Target -> Browse the folder where you want the cd to be. Activate in the program the option "Include Sub Folders" and click "Copy". After that, run setup.exe.

The program is also useful to copy scratched or damaged CDs.

How can I uninstall Gothic I properly?

Solution: Start the registryeditor (Start-> Run -> type regedit and hit enter/ok) and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.
And search for the entry 'DisplayName=Gothic'. This is the GUID for the installation (‘{BBF10B37-4ED3-11D5-A818-00500435FC18}’). Load the directory [Program]InstallShield Installation Information\[GUID] followed by the registry-path GUID found above. If you have the 1.08k patch installed, do the same with ‘DisplayName’=‘Gothic_Patch’.

Note, instead of "Program" it might be "Program Files". Depending on your system.

How can I start Gothic I in windowed mode?

Solution: Open Gothic.INI found in the system subfolder of your Gothic I directory. Search for the line zStartupWindowed=0 and change it into zStartupWindowed=1.

How can I force Gothic I to run in 1680x1050 resolution?

Solution: This assumes that you have the Player-Kit installed. Open the GothicGame.INI in the system subfolder of your Gothic I directory. Add the following parameter under force_parameters : -zRes:1680,1050,32.

This does not change the NPC Insert- or Fadeout ranges.

The background won't play anymore after I installed Vista Service Pack 1!

Solution: Install this patch and it should fix the problem. This patch should work for Gothic 1, Gothic 2 Classic and Gothic 2 Night of the Raven.
Alternatively, you can use this self-installer.

Help! I broke my Gothic CD!

Solution: Do *not* ask for a crack. Piracy, or anything that supports piracy is not tolerated here. Your best chance is to contact JoWooD or buy a new game.

    I have a problem with Windows 7!

Solution: Don't use Windows 7. They claim that it'll be better for gaming than Vista, but its not. Yes, so it has built-in support for Windows Live. But that's only 20 or so games out of the 500 titles. The new hotkey thingies with Ctrl+Shift+N? Ever seen a game that supports that new feature? Or even heard rumours that a game might go and support it? Exactly. DirectX 11? Got that on vista too... (pity its not on WinXP) Maybe Piranha Bytes will release a patch to solve those problems, together with the problems we have with vista. Yeah, most likely not.
