What would have been nice is you start as fisher we know that but you can't go right in a guild.
First you will have to get another job (all include going out of the city).

    Hunter
    Herb gatherer
Errand boy (between towns or to desolate places)

Whatever you choose something will happen and to progress you will have to choose which guild you want to join.
Different from G2 you don't have the job anymore when joining a guild, still the jobs gives you different bonuses, so errand boy might give you a permanent bonus to stamina.
Hunter to bow skill and sneakin and herb gatherer maybe mana or alchemy skills.
You also get work clothes which gives a little protection.

You can quickly start with the job but joining a guild takes more time, which is good since it lets you decide what you want to do, and also more realistic as a mere fisherman isn't likely to just turn to be one of the guards.

Something special uneventful, surprising must happen and rumours of this event spread and we can join a guild, as now some listens if we try to join.
Also we've got some exp. by this point.

From what i understand, we will have cities with wemen, men, children and elders, so a lot of social categories. This was what i always wanted, but never got it. In g2 we had cities with young men, old men and women, but no children. And the same thong would be nice (although they won't play a big part from what i understant) for the orcs . It's kinda bizzare to see only male orcs, no clue where they came from, no clue where they go into . It is as idiotic not to see all these categories of npcs as it was to find dragon eggs in a world with no dragon ladies .

And to be on topic, here is the question: What is the extent of the social categories mentioned above we are going to see in Arcania?

Gothic dragons don't need a partner to reproduce themselves, they have no sex
    (like the queen of aliens)
Female orcs are the shamans (u can think they are not pretty but it's none of ur business)

Anyway What's in the barrier? i need to know
There where Adanos stood was a place where Innos and Beliar had no power.

Probably this was only a joke but to those who don't understand:
    Of course they're not women.
    What gave you that idea?
I think they may have female orcs in G1 in the orc camp, but not sure.

In G4 female orcs would be nice, and if you can't make a game with children atleast make young men/women.
We shouldn't be to old when we start either, maybe 20 and in the end be something like 25.

I think nameless was about 20 yo in G1
In G2 there is Till which is actually a young man.(not talking about the apprentices in the monastery)

About orc women it was a joke but i wouldn't be so sure that shamans are male (have u ever heard about dwarven women?)
(And in G1 camp there weren't female orcs; a part from shamans of course)

I thought he was older, atleast he did seem older.
What I mean is for example you see him change. In the beginning he looks weak and more somewhat innocent face (don't know how better to describe).
As the chapters progress you can see he becomes a bit more mature and his eyes prove that he knows a thing or two.
He can change in slightly different directions depending on what you wanted to progress in.
Magic (less muscular but more magic like, could for example have slightly glowing eyes whic glowed bright when using powerful magic),
Warrior (those who go mostly for meele, more muscular),
+ something in between for example if you specialise in ranged, assassin, thief or combination of magic and meele (more agile muscles).

You begin as the start type, then when you get about 1/3 you change first time to a middle stage (only 1 type), and after about 2/3 or 3/4 you change to either of the one mentioned above.

I've noticed that in game never was spoken an age of persons.

Our friends or enemies and the most importand NPCs was without age..

So, can't tell how old is this hero.

    It's only speculation...

I know there will be undergroung caves; i asked for big ones with some village or something inside!

(and this thread is for asking things, i think we are spamming too much in here)

    Another question:
We know about these whitches of fate but what about the Gods? are they still around messing with people and things?
There where Adanos stood was a place where Innos and Beliar had no power.

Hmm...seems to me that Mr.EDL doesnt answer any questions as far as i see!Anyway the questions posted by some of you mates are really interesting but none of you guys asked the REALLY essential question

Will the hero of Arcania be able to speak/kill to anyone he meets,PLUS our old and loved Nameless Hero?

Btw i dont like the fact that you made nameless the evil guy !
Can you pls change that fact in the whole scenario?
    We still love it!

It would be nice to be able to speak to everyone, but at best you will pe able to talk to them like in g1, where a lot of npcs said the same thing. I don't thing you will be able to kill anyone because they will need some characters from this game to make Arcania 2 or something. EDL won;t tell you if you can kill nameless because it would be a spoiler in the story.

Like EDL said in the interview, they may implement children and certain special laws. For exemple in one town if you hit a child you will be escorted outside and banned from the town. In other places you will pay a grreater fine than for hitting a man (same for women) or maybe even killed.

And speaking of underground, a portion Arx Fatallis like would rule.

And not to spam, my following question is related to the riddle:

How come will we have molerats and other familiar beasts in Arcania if those islands were separated from the mainland all the time? Innos damn it, even on the main land there weren;t any. They were endegenous to Khorinis. It was only natural to see different kinds of wolfs and scavengers because of evolution, but molerats (although i would love to see them again) are not natural to appear.

On what system (ram, cpu, graphix) does the team run the portions of the games that are already ready? One should know what investment in hardware to expect. Also please test the bits done on not so hightech comps to see how they run.

This we had in G3 and to look at the story, I would more prefer that some could not be killed so they could be more important to the story.
They should be able to knock uncouncious though, but not kill.

    Hi there,

I know, I know it's been a while, but I hope I am excused because I worked a damn lot. But here are some answers to some questions. Enjoy it!

    -EDL

1-Wil we begin inside or outside the barrier?
I think I can tell that you will not begin inside a barrier.

2-Will there be different towns with completely different architectural styles?
Oh, yes you will have a different architecture for different towns and villages.

3-What about the currency? Plz be original
What do you mean by being original? Original with my answer or original with the currency? Anyway, we are planning to have a currency as in Gothic 2 and 3 but we are not sure how original that currency will be as we are focused on being consistent with the previous games, but we will see. We can also say that we are not looking to have an economic system that is based on bartering or specific goods (f.e. ore) as it was in Gothic 1.

4-I don't like riding, better a teleportation system to me: but not just a rune system, something u have to reactivate like in NOTR (hehe not really a question )
Riding or not riding was discussed at length in various threads and topics and we are very much discussing it at Spellbound. Right now I can only say: Time will tell. The same goes for the teleportation.

5-Are Gods involved too in our journey?
Aren’t they always involved to some extent? Mostly it matters only how much you believe in them. The roles of the gods have changed over the years. This is a big chunk of the storyline so I wouldn’t give away too much right now.

6-Can we have a house to be improved as we like in the game? (We begin as a fisherman, next hunter, next trader, next lord, next... and our house improve with us)
That’s a nice idea, we said it somewhere else that we think about giving the hero a place where he can rest and store things or put trophies on the wall. So the interior might change over the course of time. If the outside of the building will change as well would remain to be seen, but it is an interesting idea.

7-Rember the castle in G1 of which we should found the property bill and give it to (Lester?): will be there such a manor, we have to clear from fiends for someone or to call it ours?
Actually there might be quite a few places that have to be cleared for very much different people. Specifics cannot be given right now.

8-Will some areas of the game change going on with the story?
What do you mean here exactly? Do you want to burn down whole sections of the world? Do you want an earthquake to swallow rather big portions of the land? Nothing of that kind of a scale is going to happen, but other smaller changes are very likely to happen.

9-If there will be dragons in the game plz make them guarding something REALLY valuable, not just being out there by themselves.
We said it before, I’ll say it again. Tough and hard quests will lead to nice rewards. So you can expect that a dragon (if there is one at all) will drop some awesome loot after you defeated him. How to defeat him – well that’s a different kind of story.

10 and not more- Can we get an icecream?
Icecream within the game? I love icecream too but I am not so sure that it is very “gothic”.

How will the trading systems be?
We have a quite well balanced system in mind, but whether or not our system is fun will have to be tested. So we do not want to say too much as it might still be a while before we can get on this feature.

How are the voices going to be?
We know that some of the voice acting of the non-german version was not so well done. There will most likely be new cast members for these versions. We are negotiating things right now.

What is the quality of the quests going to be?
The quests will vary in difficulty and complexity. Not every quest will be totally outstanding, but what we aim for is that all the skills of the player should be addressed: combat, social, knowledge and so on. And the tougher the quest, the better the reward.

What can you tell us about the magic system?
Unfortunately not too much right now, but it is under heavy development. You will see some old well known spells as well as some very new and stunning ones. Balancing is a big issue here and we are paying close attention to that.

What will the money's role be?
I think that was already answered above.

    What about the jobs?
You think our hero should start to work as an accountant or a farmer? Would you really like that in the game? Maybe we’ll put it in as a retirement option, but I don’t think any RPG-game is about finding a job for your main character. He might be offered to work for someone for a while so it would be a part time job. Normally the hero has his own agenda and might only take a job for a while to reach a certain minor goal (make some cash, make a friend, find something out etc.).

And finally... will the new hero have a name?
LOL, that one again. Nice try though!

Will it be easy to gain money?
Look at our answers above. The amount of money in the game has to be balanced wisely. We don’t want you to be too rich nor too poor to satisfy your basic needs.

    Will there be quality quests?
    Indeed . Please see above.

    Will there be Dragons?
Nobody knows. Maybe an aunt of the hero shows up and turns out to be a real dragon lady.

    Will there be MUD?
Hmm, isn’t that an old joke? We might look for a new one.

Is the world going to be hand made?
We won’t have any random generation things etc. Textures, Models and Worlds will all be hand made.

Will there be 1 or more isles to explore?
Most likely more than one. Sure thing.

Will the fisherman have a name?
    Nice try again.

What about underground places; are some big ones planned to be there??
Oh yeah, get ready to go underground again and don’t expect it to be easy. You may never see the light of the day again.

I don't think that horseriding system will make the game better, first gothic's world isn't as big as oblivion's or two worlds' and you don't need a horse to go from one city to another and second if you have a horse to transport from one place to another then you lose the feeling of exploration which is a very important thing for any player...
