fable:lost chapters vs overlord
which of these 2 games its the best? what do you think? also, i got overlord today and i have a problem: when i enter in the game the screen is black even if i wait 10 minutes and nothing changes(i have ati radeon 9250 with 128 mb vram, 512 mb ram, 1,6 ghz). what should i do?
-
System Requirements:
Windows XP, DirectX 9.0c, Pentium 2.4 GHz or Athlon XP 2400+ processor, 512 MB RAM, GeForce FX5900 or Radeon 9500 graphics card, 4.5 GB Hard Drive Space, 2x DVD-ROM Drive. TCP/IP mode (2 player) requirements:
Broadband Internet connection required - 512Kbps recommended for hosting. TCP/IP network.
source Wikipedia.
Seems you fail to meet the recommended specs in two areas: graphics card and processor.
Suggestion, lower the graphics for the game, install the latest drivers from ATI and also the latest patch from the developer of Overlord.
Post here what happens.

Well I don't know which one is better. But I've tried the demo of Overlord and I think your rig is under the requirements. I've tried it with a 2,4 ghz processor, a 7600 gt, and 512 ram and it stuttered like crazy. Indeed, I didn't set everything to minimum, but most of them were at medium or low. So I would say it's because of your config. Here are the requirements:
Minimum Requirements
Windows XP
DirectX 9.0c
Pentium 4 @ 2.4 GHz or Athlon 2400+
512 MB RAM
Graphics Card: GeForce FX5700 / Radeon 9500 or above
DirectX Compatible Sound Card
2x DVD-ROM Drive
4.5 GB Hard Drive Space
Recommended Requirements
Windows XP/Vista
DirectX 9.0c
Pentium 4 Core 2 Duo or Athlon X2
1 GB RAM
Graphics Card: GeForce 7800 or Radeon X1800
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Sound Card
2x DVD-ROM Drive
4.5 GB Hard Drive Space
Supported Graphics cards
ATi Radeon 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800, X300, X600, X700, X800, x1300, x1600, x1800, x1900, x1950
nVidia Geforce FX5700, FX5950, 6600, 6800, 7100, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950, 8800

Well, I've thus far only played the demo of Overlord, so I can't really give an objective opinion on that.
As for fable; I'd probably rank it somewhere in the 80-90% range.
Supported Graphics cards
ATi Radeon 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800, X300, X600, X700, X800, x1300, x1600, x1800, x1900, x1950
nVidia Geforce FX5700, FX5950, 6600, 6800, 7100, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950, 8800
Just because a crad isn't supported doesn't mean that it won't run on it.
And that's from experience.
A few weeks ago my Radeon 9700 got busted, so I'd had to swap it for a Geforce MX 100.
And amazingly; Guild Wars still ran on it, and that wasn't on minimum settings!
Guild Wars even gave a notice that they didn't support the MX 100.

I never said that it does mean it won't work. I just said it's not officially supported.

I gotta admit, i haven't played Overlord but fable was quite good despite some nasty annoying bugs and crashes. I would give fable 7/10 i was to rate it. It's quite limited, but enjoyable game.

Overlord is more funny than Fable but have more bugs in game.

I haven't played Overlord but I didn't like Fable at all. I suggest u try Jade Empire, especially if u liked KotOR. Its from Bioware as well and has many commons with KotOR, which is only a good thing.

I would recommend buying a new graphics card. You should at least try to get yourself an ATI 9500 (the minimum recomended one) but I would recommend you the ATI 1600 Pro. I have it and it works like a charm (that's a good luck charm, mind you). By the way, what model of monitor do you have? Do you hear the menu music/audio when you experience the black screen?
Also, try looking in the ReadMe on the CD/DVD and read the manual for trubleshooting. Additionally look at their forum for the game.
Good luck!

I personally don't see how one can compare Fable to Overlord. They are a both different kind of game. It's like comparing beer to wine. Fable is more of a Role Player and Overlord is more of an Action game. Unless they are to be compared for their bugs. I have only seen my 13 yr. old daughter play Fable so I don't know the game. Overlord I have played up the the second to the last boss in Spree and have stopped there for the moment. I have only ever seen one bug in Overlord in which the minions get stuck on a bridge in the desert while carrying a tower object and got past that and missed the one in Melvin's kitchen totally. The lasted patch fixes these bugs.
Overlord is a really cool little game and I have not seen anything quite like it before. But it is hard to navigate at times and easy to get lost in. The map that comes packaged with the game sucks stale pond water. A in-game map would be nice. It is a funny game at times all the same.

I've just started playing Overlord. The only thing it has in common with Fable is those nice graphics, personally i didn't see any similarity. Overlord is a new style of game the truth is, it's an action-rpg-strategy-simulation (you can built your tower). It's pretty funny too. Especially the minions. On the other hand i can't imagine how i would be with so many minions at the end of the game, it's the beggining and i have 10 (and i get really confused and crowded)!!!! At the end how much would i have 100 ?!

You forgot about Giants Citizen Kabuto. They had action combined with rts a long time ago. I found Overlord to be similar to Giants in many ways. And there's nothing bad about that, as long as they've done a good job. And they have.
-
My son has been playing Overlord with a trainer loaded and the minion max is 104.
-
Yes Danutz it has some similarities with Giants Citizen Kabuto. Now that i've went forward and discovered more of the game i really enjoy it (at the beginning it was boring a bit). Take a look at this screenshot, i feel like a Nazgul which just killed Frodo Baggins

Ok, so it isn't the monitor. Have you tried the other tips I showed you? By the way, try to find a friend with a high end computer and test it's functionality there. If it works on his PC and not on yours, then you definetly need an upgrade.
