    The ancient knowledge story

I was wondering if someone wrote up the complete ancient knowledge story. You know that story that is written in books where you get +5 ancient knowledge.
I kinda got lost and can't remember half of it. All those loose bits and pieces and the fact that it's not subtitled doesn't help much.

If no-one hasn't, I will try to write it up when I re-play the game.

    Here is the text version:

    Book of Flood:
In the beginning, the nomads roamed the land. And the Eternal Wanderer led the way. And Innos spoke to the Eternal Wanderer: Lay aside your staff! And in its stead, Innos gave him the scepter. And the Eternal Wanderer became his servant. And Innos gave him a part of his divine power, so that he might curb the doings of Beliar. And the power was fire. And he controlled it as he saw fit. But some among the nomads would not follow Innos. And the people of the nomads were divided. And those who followed Innos erected great temples, and they became the people of Varant. And the scepter became the token of their rulership. And Innos spoke to his servants: Erect a portal for me, so that I might reign over this world in all eternity! And his servants did as they were bidden. But when Beliar saw what the servants of Innos were doing, he screamed with rage. And a being of ancient power heeded his call and arose from the earth, and some other great beings arose as well. But the time of the great beings had come to an end. For thus was the will of Adanos. And Adanos called a flood, and the being was washed off the earth. When the servant of Innos realized what was happening, he had the five divine artifacts brought into the temple. And the people of Varant perished, staff and scepter sank down into the waters. And Adanos said to his brothers: Never more shall you set foot in my land. For it is sacred. And thus shall it be.
    Book of Rhobar:
The barbarians lived in Nordmar. And Rhobar was one of them. He wandered through the ice without fire or weapons. And the Beast was hunting him. Rhobar hid in a cave, but the Beast tracked him down. And Rhobar felt behind him, and there he found a sword. He took it and killed the beast with ONE stroke. But the sword was surrounded by fire, and Innos was with it. And Innos said to Rhobar: Descend from the mountains, and defeat my enemies. And Rhobar waged war against the orcs. And the wrath of Innos descended upon them. And Rhobar was victorious. Once his enemies were defeated, Innos said to him: This is where you shall establish your kingdom. And Rhobar did as he was bidden.
    Book of Zuben:
After the first great war, the orcs ruled the kingdom of Myrtana. And the humans were their slaves. But the fighters were their gladiators. One of them was Zuben. And he fought well, for he shared the beliefs of the orcs. And the orcs granted him his freedom. And Zuben wandered south. But on his journey, he found the staff of the Eternal Wanderer, and he took it with him. And Beliar said to him: Now proceed to the country of the nomads, and establish a realm for me! And Zuben went to the desert. And there he drove his staff into the ground, and said: This is where I shall build my realm for you! And the faith of the orcs became the faith of the humans.
    Chronicles:
Akascha had orders to hide the last artifact in the temple. And the waters raged, as Akascha looked on. And the temple sank beneath the surface. And Akascha wandered north, until he came to the huge mountain range in eternal ice. And he founded a clan. And it was the Clan of the Fire.

    I guess too...

So, if I understood well the story, the royal dynasty of Myrtana has its origins in Nordmar... Interesting...

However, I find the book of Zuben a bit weird, because it implies that the fundation of hashshin cities and their rule upon the desert is very recent.

I thought that the hashshin was an ancient nomad tribe worshipping Beliar since a long time and that they were just waiting for an occasion to rule all over the world. Sometimes the story drives me mad.

Could someone enlight me please ?

Some text from the game about Zuben:

Who is Zuben? Zuben is our great leader. He is ancient and possesses the power of Beliar!

You know Zuben? Yes, from way back. He had a couple of really good visions. But that was seventy years ago...

Fine, I'm pleased. By the way, I am Mezir. They call me a treasure hunter. I'm a madman and babbler, they say. But they are blind to my riches. Except for Zuben. That's right, not him. Old Zuben. But I'm rambling again

No offense, but that doesn't explain anything about the hashshin... Neither about Zuben besides, but thanks anyway for this information.

No offense taken, but that's all the game provides. At least all I've found about him.

So, from what I've read so far, Zuben and his hashishins invaded Varant 70 years before G3. I think the hashishins are the orcs' galdiators. They've taken the Beliar beliefs from the orcs. Only the nomads were there from ancient times, not the hashishins.

All right, I see now. Things are getting clearer !!! Thank you very much ! But, how do you explain the huge cities in the desert with the temples ? They couldn't have built Ishtar, Mora Sul, Mora Sul's temple, Barakesh and Barakesh's temple in 70 years, even with slaves it's impossible !

The temples and the ruins were ancient, before the flood or around that time.
And they could build those cities in 30-40 years with the slaves, they could have thaken the rocks from the ruined cities.

Edit: yes, the temples were there before the flood.
"When the great flood swept across the land a thousand years ago, many people hid in the temple. The temple stood strong surrounded by water. But no one ever came out alive. I suspect that the skeletons will be awakened by the strong magic. So you better take a big axe with you."

Well I beleive that they are rather recent. I mean about 100 years wise, remember the leader is probably old, so he didn't found the Hashishi right when he was born.

So, I assume the humans lived there before the first great war.

    My take:

First comes the book of Flood:

This tells the history of humanity's beggining (and runs in parallel to Jarkendar's history), followed by chronicles.

Akascha had orders to hide the last artifact in the temple. And the waters raged, as Akascha looked on. And the temple sank beneath the surface. And Akascha wandered north, until he came to the huge mountain range in eternal ice. And he founded a clan. And it was the Clan of the Fire.
Akascha, one of the few remaining ancients, fled to Nordmar and found the Fire Clan and started the Nordmarian tribes.

Next, we have the first Orc war, waged by orcs against humanity. In this war, the General who wielded Uriziel and wore the Ancient Runic Ore Armor fought and fell. Here comes the book of Zuben:

The orcs succeeded in their war, and enslaved humanity, using them as gladiators and slaves. Zuben was an exceptional gladiator who won his freedom and was nominated by Beliar as his avatar to create his kingdom.

Zuben chose Varant. He rallied followers to his cause, disillussioned with Adanos and Innos after their lands were desertified and gradually removed the original, nomadic tribes from cities that survived the flood and estabilished their dominance. However, the struggle for power and control continued for centuries.

The last book in historical sequence would be the book of Rhobar:

Saint Rhobar, the wielder of the hammer, was victorious against the orcs and drove them away from Myrtana and estabilished the human kingdom.

These are all ancient times. Throughout history, many events happened, including the mysterious event of the year 212, trading the Valley for 400 pounds of gold by Bergmar, Burgrab of the Western Lands, on behalf of Lord Tymorisin (approx. 500s - 700s) and, most recent, the coronation of Rhobar I, the king who, along with his son, Rhobar II, united the warring human factions and lands. They adopted the name of the holy founder of the human kingdom, as they set out on a quest to reunite his kingdom.

And here started the second orc war, estabilishing of the Barrier, Xardas leaving the Circle of Fire and finally, the events of Gothic, Gothic II and Gothic 3.

Are yous ure for the place where (or shall I say when) you put Zuben ? He and his men should come in last position if you want all the thing to be logical...

    @Mistress Larissa

These are not the temples mentionned in the flood book, because those were Innos' temples, or the temples of Mora Sul and Barakesh are Beliar's temples. So they had been built by the hashishin, or at least their slaves...

"When the servant of Innos realized what was happening, he had the five divine artifacts brought into the temple."

So, where do we find the artifacts in G3? In the temples. Temples that were constructed before the flood. Why would the servant of Innos take refuge in the temples of Beliar? You say the hashishins found the artifacts in temples of Innos and put them in temples of Beliar? I don't think so. Why they wouldn't keep them? Zuben should have been very interested in those. And where are the temples of Innos in Varant, if those are Beliar's?

"The temple stood strong surrounded by water. But no one ever came out alive."

They became undead in the temples, but the temples were for Innos.

    @Mistress larissa

The ruined temples are Adanos temple, because as far as I'm concerned the undead mages wear water mages robes. Moreover, the temple of Mora Sul, not the ruined one, the one in the heart of the town where you can find Gonzales, is a Beliar's temple. And the temple of Barakesh is THE Beliar's temple. These are the temples I was talking about, not the ones in ruin.

That's why I'm still wondering about the history of Varant and especially the history of the hashshin, because it's still not very clear. You see what I mean ?

Oh, that temples... The one in Mora Sul I don't know... It's Gonzales' palace, Beliar style. Because it's trendy . In Bakaresh on the other hand, yes, that's a real temple. But it's built along with the city. The architectonic style (big buildings are round) is different from the ancient one (square temples).

The other temples, the ones where the artifacts are, now that you pointed out, I agree, they are Adanos' temples. It makes sense to put a Adanos artifact in a Adanos temple. But still, the Innos servant did this. It's even possible to have a mixed population of undead (the mages were Adanos, the regular undead Innos)

Killrog, I'm sure of where I put Zuben, because it is said that they rose to power in the aftermath of the first orc war, seeing how there were at least two orc wars, the one in the early days of humanity, after which the Hashishin gradually pushed the Nomads back and the second, in which the united Kingdom of Myrtana lost and Rhobar II was forced into creating the Barrier.

Besides, it's not like the current Zuben is the real thing, as Mezir remarked - it is not impossible for him to transfer his sentience from one man to another, given that he's the chosen of Beliar, right?

Yeah man, very relevant observation ! So Zuben might be a kind of title, like sultan or emir... Now I can say that everything makes sense.

Thank you to everybody for youe answers, and especially to Mistress and Mikael. Now I think I'm done with those questions.
