Hello,
As you know, the magical entourage in the release version of Gothic 1, for one reason or another, was not fully revealed. In the early stages of development, PB planned to introduce more magical symbolizm into the game. For example, they want add some kind of astronomical devices having typical of examples from real world history. Two such devices are shown in early concept art by Ralf Marczinczik, which was drawn by him around the autumn of 1998. And if the device shown on the left raises no questions, what about the other one? Does this device have a similar counterpart in the real world history, or is it just a free-hand creation, inspired by some elements of several astronomical/astrological devices at once? What about the symbols on the mechanism parts? Please let me know what you think about it.

Very interesting, but this Concept Art (and many more from the folders of Mike Hoge) is already to be found in the Gothic Archive, isn't it?

Ich muss zugeben, dass ich nicht allzu aufmerksam war zum Zeitpunkt meines Beitrages. Muss der Schlafmangel sein.

Nun muss ich mir aber erstmal Gedanken machen, vielleicht träume ich ja eine gute Theorie.

It would have been so much interesting to see ingame such astronomic devices...maybe with some mages using them.
Too bad that the devs had to forget about lot of things because they were in a hurry to release the game

In the Gothic Archive website you can see lots of amazing concepts...and you always ask yourself
"Why isn't this ingame?"
"Why is the final version of this soo bad?" ( --> here I'm talking about goblin textures: during early development, they were sooo much better)
