Gothic 1 Dark Mysteries 2.02 English Translation - Complete
Hello everyone,
I've created a custom English translation for the Gothic 1 Dark Mysteries version 2.02 mod.

Note: many people say that even the normal difficulty is too hard (especially when playing as a mage). I managed to beat most of the game on hard, but I agree that it's bullshit in some areas - enemy hp and armor are just cranked to 100, making fights very tedious and frustrating. The difficulty cannot be changed after you start the game, so choose wisely

Update 10.12.2021: Fixed lots of typos. Added more finesse to lots of conversations. Fixed more inconsistencies where I could.
What you should know about it:
- it's based on Lord Sargon's google translate version of a russian translation of the original polish mod.
- as a result, I have either slightly or completely altered the meaning of some lines of text (usually those that were impossible to understand due to Google's translation).
- however, I have tried to give most characters a unique flavour, as well as richer background stories, I have corrected all grammar problems I've come across and have generally tried to improve the conversations to sound as good as possible, given the source material.
Problems that you might encounter:
- typos
- I noticed that some lines (not many fortunately) use the google translate version of the texts even though I have removed all instances of those translations from the document. This happens with several lines in the Smugglers' Camp. For example, the leader's name is Tangor, even though I replaced all instances of that name in my csv with Thangor. I don't know why this happens yet.
- a few russian words which google translate did not manage to adapt into english are still present throughout the game (but they should be few and far between). As I play the game myself and get context, I'll translate them as well.
- you might encounter instances of dialogue lines which don't make sense in the situation you read them in. The reason for these (possible) mistakes is that in the csv, some of the conversations were slightly jumbled, meaning not all of the characters' lines were displayed in perfect order. I expect these to be very few as well. Update: I've found instances of some lines being used in multiple conversations, so the only thing I could do was make them as generic as possible so that they don't sound completely out of place.
- texts which are too long for the dialogue box. Be aware this depends on what texture pack modifications you use. It shouldn't be a problem for texture packs which don't modify the dialogue box.
- too little time for some of the dialogue lines: I'll tweak these to be shorter as well, when they really seem too long. However, I do recommend changing the following options in the SystemPack.ini file (you need to have the Gothic system pack installed for this):
- Control=0 >>> 1 This enables the subtitle settings below to be used.
- TimeMultiplier=2.0 >>> 1 This sets the time for dialogues which have sound files to normal speed, instead of double.
- MaxTimePerPhrase=30.0 >>> 60.0 This increases the maximum time for a non-voice dialogue line to be 60 seconds, instead of 30.
- TimePerChar=100.0 >>> 200.0 This controls how much time the game allocates for each character of the dialogue line. For example:
when TimePerChar=200.0, the phrase, "Can you teach me how to fight?" contains 30 characters, so it will have 30 * 200/1000 = 6 seconds.
This should give you enough time to read any dialogue. You can always tweak the settings for what you feel is best for you. For more detailed explanations about these settings, see "File descriptions (SystemPack.ini)" in here.
- IMPORTANT! If you have a quest started and you install my translation midgame, if the name of the quest is different in my version, when you complete the quest, it will not move to the "Completed Quests" section. I don't think there's any way to avoid this, so it's best to start a new playthrough, or finish the quest before applying my translation. Here's a list with the changed quest names:
Conclusion:
All these being said, I believe that this translation is vastly superior to Google's one and should at the very least be functional, if not outright enjoyable.
Additionally, I'll keep correcting problems and making improvements over time.

How to install (also present in README):
1. Make sure that you have Dark Mysteries Polish version 2.02 installed
2. Copy the .INI and .RTF files into your Gothic/system folder
3. Copy the .MOD files into your Gothic/Data/ModVDF folder
4. Run Gothic.exe from Gothic/system folder
5. The GothicStarter should run now (if you have the Gothic Player Kit installed), allowing you to choose which version of Gothic you want to play
6. Select Gothic: Dark Mysteries (Easy/Normal/Hard) and Play the Game
7. Enjoy

Nicht ganz korrekt. Das ist eine Übersetzung der polnischen Mod Mroczne Tajemnice (Version 2.02) ins Englische. Dunkle Geheimnisse ist die deutsche Übersetzung, die basiert ebenfalls der polnischen Version 2.02. Lediglich der auswählbare Schwierigkeitsgrad wurde nicht mehr in die deutsche Version übernommen, da PoziomkaZ dafür drei unterschiedliche Skriptpakete erstellt hatten (d.h. drei Komplettpakete). All unsere Bugfixes in die zwei anderen Pakete zu mergen war mir dann doch zu viel.

does anybody know where the invisblity ring is located in the mod for life of me i cant find it :/ i know its not the place to ask but i dont know where to ask

Hey csajo,
Sorry, but I don't know for sure. I did however find it in my playthrough, while going through the Ancients' questline. I noticed I had it right before going to fight the last enemy in the questline (not giving name to avoid spoilers). Why do you need it though? I don't remember there being a quest linked to it.

Thank you for mod , i enjoyed it alot.
I only had 1 problem where i couldnt find Adanos statue anywhere in the world to complete quest for smugglers/Servin.
Does anyone know where it is ? thank you !
