An Orc Warrior (300 Life, 20 magic resistance) dies in one hit to this spell?

An Orc Elite (450 Life, 100 magic resistance) takes 100 damage from this spell, and requires 5 hits to die?

What's going on here?

(For extra fun: Wargs take no damage at all, except if they get in the way of a spell aimed at an Orc, then they die. Nice work, game.)

Enemy <300 HP = 300-resistance
Enemy >300 HP = (150-resistance) x2
