 Zitat von Estel Randir
I have avoided any game changing mods for decades because of all the issues they create. But I decided to just see what this one looked like graphically. It has matured & seems like it is heading in a better direction after years of the same complaints about it.
First: one thing this mod does better than 99% of the revamp mods & texture packs - it keeps the feeling of wildness about G2 regarding the environment. In G2, you are supposed to get lost from time to time in the forest. It is supposed to be filled with all sorts of foliage and the forests have full tree canopies. This mod even improves on that in some areas. This is one of the biggest attractions G2 has for me. The path from Xardas' tower to town had me so lost because of all of the extra wonderful plants & trees. And it is great that the conifers are not replaced with skinny aneorexic versions like Vurt's.
Second: The textures for many things are very nice - buildings, etc.
I know it is *popular* for many revamps to make Gothic games to have an overall dark themed color palette. They all claim that it fits with the game & helps create and atmosphere of oppression. My opinion is that is wrong. Gothic is supposed to be gritty. There is a big difference between the two. Grittiness is one of the major things that made G1 so great. G1 was the grittiest of them all. It was a game of dirty, mean people & crude places where people lived. It was by no means bright and cheery. But the graphic environment was not purposely made of darker shades everywhere you look. There is a lot of contrast. There were many places of contrast between light and dark areas even in the forests, etc (even though the forests were not nearly as large or lush as G2). In G1, there are no fields of pretty flowers, but there were some flowering plants here and there that provided color. Even though it was not bright and cheery, it did not feel all that monotonous or kill my eyes with strain due to lack of contrast everywhere.
Sadly, L'Hiver it is way too dark for me. This applies to both the overall light filter in open areas & especially under heavy tree canopy (it is almost like night in some places where it should not be). The lighting filters in some areas just make no sense. The hill above Khorinis near the lighthouse that has a small group of trees. They are very tall & have very little tree canopy to block sunlight - the leaves are grouped at the top of the tree. In the noonday sun, it seems almost dark under them. In a very deep forest, it obviously will not be bright, but the heavy forests are so dark, it literally strains my eyes. The color choices for almost all of the trees and plants is basically all dark greens. Quite honestly, it is monotonous to play after a few hours. A nice & balanced contrast between different types of plants of various colors, etc is basically lost.
Wishful thinking - I wish a version of this with a color palette closer to the original game would be made as it regards plants & trees. The overall textures are just so nice. Just my opinions.
Thank you for sharing your opinion, just one question: dod you play with D3D11 or without it?

May I ask what should be the optimal settings for running L'Hiver? I use a Ryzen 3700x CPU + GTX 1080 + 32 GB RAM, along with the DX11 mod (which actually improves performance in vanilla G2/NOTR), and the FSP tank in Khorinis. I use draw distance 3 for the world, and the rest are at 50 / 5. I get that L'Hiver vastly improves the visual fidelity (and it shows), but I wonder if I'm not missing something. It feels like when looking towards the upper quarter, the fps tank more than usual.

The game will always have some FPS problems due to the game engine not being able to stand all those new stuff. In some places inside Khorinis it can drop to 30 FPS, but it's not a big deal since most of the times there won't be any big action in the city. Outside of that area, FPS are stable over 60 sometimes even 80-90+. If that's still a problem to you, you can disable shadows and it should give a huge performance boost

Hello! Thanks, I seem to have found a sweet spot for Khorinis byr setting the object view distance to 25-30. That leaves me with FPS drops to 55 at worst. Funny thing, my GPU actually turns on fans when running L'Hiver Khorinis, so maybe a future upgrade will help things! Thank you for your work!

Thank you for your kind words
Look for "Scale" inside Systempack.ini (found in /system), be sure it's set to 1.
If that doesn't work, let me know and i'll try to find a fix for that.
1.6 (or 1.1.6) will come out in less than a week, (11th Feb to be precise) unless something happens.
I dont get the lines with shields, scale in my system.ini file.
I get this error when i start first Time with gothicstarter "Unsuported gothic version(CRC:0x2BCD7E30, CodeCRC:0xEFD8A07B), fix will not be applied"
If i delete the systempack it gives the same eror and creates another one with only 12 lines.
I instaled following the Guide.
Game from GoG. Fix2. 6, playerkit 2.8, systempack 1.7, dx11, 4gb patch, memfix, copied the l hiver files gothic 2/data.

Uninstall and do a fresh installation from 0, i suggest you following this detailed video, try to disable your antivirus (maybe it is blocking something? no idea), be sure your installation directory has no strange characters(of any type, like àùèò or other stuff). If it still doesn't work i think it's due to some sort of incompatibility with 4K, but it should work to be honest.

Just dropping by - Glad to see this is still going well!
Looking forward to future updates.

Worked with systempack 1.8.
With 1.7 does not work.
But now i have some weird graphics fluctuations.
White screen popping for few seconds then disappears.
Think i will wait for lhiver 1.1.6.

Oh, shit, when this mod had grown so much? Not to mention I didn't think it would gain such a noticeable following among fans. But still, it was ventured and yield was gained, right?
Right. Good luck and cheers!

Can't install
I was sooo hoping to try 1.16, but i can't get it to work. I played previous versions and had no trouble with the "convoluted" install steps, but now, after it's been streamlined, i can't even start the game.
My steps:
1. Download hiver 1.6 files and read instructions
2. Install fresh 2.7 Gothic2 gog version into c:/Gothic2
3. Install union primary 4gb into c:/Gothic2 - gives error, wrong version, but allows to proceed
4. Install union 1oh into c:/Gothic2
5. Run Gothic 2 through desktop shortcut - it works, choose quit game in menu
6. Install ninja into c:/Gothic2
7. Run installer for 1.6 into c:/Gothic2, chose to overwrite the two .ini files
8. Attempt to run game through desktop shortcut - doesn't launch. Attempt again, same
9. Check the .ini file, see that it set the resolution to 1920X1080, switch to 1600x900 (max for my monitor)
10. See point 8
11. Go into c:/Gothic2, uninstall ninja, then uninstall game (there were no uninstalls for union primary or union 1oh)
12. Restart system.
13. Install fresh 2.7 Gothic 2, this time into my default gaming location (d:/Games/Gothic2)
14. Attempt to install union primary into game folder, it gives an error with messages, first in russion (i have no idea what it says, i presume the same as in english), second in english "The given path's format is not supported"
15. Uninstall game, restart system
16. Install fresh 2.7 Gothic 2 into c:/Gothic2
17. See point 14
18. Check the apps section in windows 10, there is no mention of playerkit or union (i assumed that it might detect it was already installed)
I have no idea what the problem is now... or what the problem was when i first managed to install, but not run the game. Any ideas?

I just posted a new link for Union Primary Patch, try a fresh install using that Union Primary patch, it should work without errors, sorry!

Hello,
I've installed 1.6 following your guide with the new union exe you provided.
Got an virus alert on UNION_TORCHHOTKEY.dll, restored it, but now Gothic doesn't start at all...
After Union installation everything was fine.
Hope you have a solution for my problem.

Your antivirus is seeing "Union_TorchHotkey.vdf" as a virus and for this reason, he deleted a few files. The game can't find those files that's why you get that error. You can remove "Union_TorchHotkey.vdf" and the error will get fixed.
If you want to try and reinstall that, you can find original download link here, it's named "TorchHotkey_plugin".
