Hello, everyone. I apologize for the English post and hope that this is the right section for this thread.

In this thread I am going to be talking about a possible future for CD Project's Witcher series, or more specifically what they could do with it next. First of all, I am in no way affiliated with CD Project and the scenario presented in this post, is not to be taken as official. This is simply a proof of concept, an example, to demonstrate how CD Project could deal with a lot of the obstacles which many people bring up, in regards to a Witcher 3 sequel. What I aim to show, is how the developers could deal with Wild Hunt's multiple endings and how they could introduce a new threat, without breaking canon, or simply rehashing what's already been done. In this scenario, I will be using the antagonist from a book I am writing, as an example of a possible new plot for a new Witcher trilogy.

In this scenario, CD Project makes a Witcher sequel, after they finish Cyberpunk 2077. Yes, you heard me right, the new Witcher is not a remake, reboot, or prequel, but an actual sequel, who's story picks up after the end of Wild Hunt. The new Witcher is also an open world RPG, but this time, it is not set in the north of the Continent and there are several reasons for that. First of all, based on your choices in Wild Hunt, the north could end up very, very differently. There are simply too many possible variables, all of which would have far-reaching consequences for the setting and would require way too much work to implement. Much simpler is to have the next Witcher take place somewhere else, since this way, the devs can deal with the fate of the north by simply implementing a few different dialogues, without it requiring massive changes, or retcons. Also, throughout the previous games, the north has been thoroughly explored already and it would be far more interesting to see some other parts of the Witcher world, as well. Because of this and some other elements and characters in this scenario, our Witcher 4 is set further south, in Nilfgaard.

Moving on, it is pretty clear at the end of Witcher 3, that Geralt's story is more or less, over. While he will have a role in our scenario, he will not be the protagonist, but rather will take on the mantle of mentor, kind of like what Vesemir was in previous games. Instead, our new protagonist will be Ciri.

There are several reasons for this choice and they all relate to the story and gameplay mechanics. At the end of Witcher 3, Geralt pretty much hangs up his sword and passes the mantle onto his adopted daughter, in one way or another, depending on your choices. Also, having Ciri as a protagonist, will allow the devs to introduce new gameplay mechanics, as her abilities are very different from Geralt's and despite the fact that we've seen some of them in Wild Hunt, they can be expanded further.

Our game begins with Dandelion talking to some people in a tavern. He's telling them about the events in Wild Hunt and those people are asking him a bunch of questions about what happened. These questions are related to the choices you are faced with in Witcher 3 and this whole sequence is the equivalent of the chat you have with General Voorhis at the beginning of Wild Hunt. The answers you give during this sequence, serve to simulate an imported Witcher 3 savegame and will affect several different things throughout our Witcher 4 scenario.

This sequence ends with one of the people asking about what happens next and Dandelion beginning to narrate a new story. An intro rolls in and the title appears on the screen: The Witcher 4: Black City. Now, let us move on to the actual beginning of the game, which takes place two years after the events of Wild Hunt and our next big hurdle: Ciri's fate at the end of Witcher 3.

As you know, there are three different outcomes for Ciri, depending on your choices in the Witcher 3. She could take on Geralt's mantle and become a witcher, she could become the empress of Nilfgaard, or she might disappear. I'm saying "disappear" because, while her death is hinted at, her ultimate fate is left ambiguous. In this scenario, we will deal with all three possible outcomes by translating them into different beginnings. This is why we needed that Dandelion sequence at the beginning of the game.

    Scenario 1: Ciri is empress

The game begins with Ciri in the capital of the Nilfgaardian Empire. Emhyr is preparing to abdicate and hand the crown to his daughter and Ciri has to deal with a bunch of political stuff related to that. This part serves as a tutorial, which introduces the player to the controls, menus, questing and map. Next, we move on to a cutscene about Ciri's corronation ceremony. She makes her way towards the throne room, followed by a massive procession of bureaucrats, clerics and an honor guard. At some point, she passes through a garden, or some other open area and the sky suddenly gets cloudy, a strong wind picks up and the first few drops of rain begin to fall. Ciri makes some remark about this, then moves on with the ceremony. At some point, as Emhyr is about to place the imperial crown upon Ciri's head, there is a loud, deep boom and the earth shakes, throwing everyone off their feet. By this point, the sky grows completely dark, as pitch black as the night, while windows explode and a strange mist envelops the entire city, starting a panic in the throne room as some strange monsters appear, starting the combat tutorial. After the monsters are dealt with, a new cutscene begins with the appearance of massive, jagged towers made out of black glass, hanging over the fog: A spectral city, blurred and partially concealed by the fog, illuminated from within by a cold, white light. Silence falls on the imperial capital, broken only by strange, deep, rumbling groans, resembling some enormous, mountain-sized beast's cries of pain. Strange figures dressed in black robes, appear inside the throne room and their presence exerts some sort of pressure, making everyone's ears ring and bringing everyone to their knees. The figures speak something in a harsh, guttural language and everywhere inside the throne room, people start exploding with a sick, wet, splash-like sound, smearing blood and gore all over the walls. One of the figures slowly walks towards Emhyr, who is collapsed to the floor and tries to get up. The figure points a finger at him and blood starts running from his nose, eyes and ears, then his skin starts to split. As the emperor dies a slow, horrible death, some soldiers pick up Ciri and drag her from the room, then proceed to help her escape.

Scenario 2: Ciri is a witcheress

This scenario begins with Ciri travelling to a village in Nilfgaard, picking up a contract for a monster. An unknown beast is terrorising the peasants and the local noble pays her to figure out what this monster is and kill it. This sequence progresses much like the White Orchard part of the Witcher 3, with Ciri having to investigate the monster, then find it and kill it. A tutorial sequence gradually introduces the player to the controls, menus and combat. After she kills the monster and goes to collect her reward, she notices a torrent of refugees, trudging through the village. She goes to the noble which hired her to kill the monster and he explains the situation to her. Something happened in the imperial capital. Some sort of supernatural entity killed the emperor and destroyed the entire city, slaughtering almost all of the population. Alarmed, Ciri collects her reward and decides to investigate, fearing that this may be an attack by the Wild Hunt, which she believed to have been defeated. But, after talking to several of the survivors, it becames clear that this is not the case. This is something else, something new.

    Scenario 3: Ciri disappears

This sequence begins with Ciri waking up in a secluded hut. At this point, there is a tutorial which explains movement and menus as Ciri gets out of bed and has to find her stuff, which is somewhere in the room. Then, she walks out of the hut, where she is greeted by an old couple, possibly even the Bloody Baron and his wife, depending on your imported savegame, or the dialogue choices in the Dandelion scene, who explains to her that they had found her injured and unconscious in the woods, a few weeks ago and they had slowly nursed her back to health. Ciri spends a few more days with the old couple, as the player goes through the rest of the tutorials, then she decides to depart to find Geralt and her friends. Along the road, she runs into bandits, wolves, or some other enemies and the combat tutorial begins. At the end of this sequence, Ciri arrives in the Nilfgaardian village from the second scenario, as the refugees begin pouring in. At this point, she goes through pretty much the same series of events at the end of scenario 2. She asks around, talking to people and concludes that there is some new threat on the horizon.

    Act 1 Begins

This concludes our multiple beginnings. At this point, regardless of which scenario the player has gone through, Ciri decides to investigate this new threat and seeks out experts on monsters and the supernatural: Geralt and the sorceresses, hoping that they would know what this new threat is. This short sequence is about her finding her old companions. She contacts several people, finds out where Geralt, Triss and Yennefer are and goes to talk to them. However, neither of them knows anything about this new threat, so Ciri decides to travel to the world of the Aen Elle elves, hoping that Avallac'h might know more, only to discover that the Aen Elle capital of Tir Na Lia has suffered the same fate as the capital of Nilfgaard and the elves are now in a state of chaos, similar to what is happening in Nilfgaard. Since Ciri can travel between worlds, this will be an important gameplay mechanic throughout our scenario and the player will be able to teleport between Nilfgaard and the Aen Elle world, at will. In fact, many quests will involve travelling not only between different locations in one world, but between worlds as well. Returning to our story, Ciri manages to locate Avallac'h, only to find that, to her horror, he knows absolutely nothing about this new threat, as well. At this point, the crew reassembles for a brainstorming session, with Geralt pouring through books about monsters, while Triss, Yennefer and Avallac'h investigate magical texts, in the hope of uncovering some information about the new threat, only to come up empty-handed. By now, it becomes clear that no one has ever encountered the Black City, before. This is a new threat and the developers should emphasize that, rather than pulling up some obscure prophecy and turning this into a cliche "ancient evil". The Black City is something completely new, there are no prophecies about it, no texts, absolutely nothing and this is what makes this new threat so frightening and interesting. Instead of solving this problem by finding ancient knowledge, the story revolves around collecting and creating that knowledge. In a sense, the player is thrust into the same position that the first witchers faced, who did not know how to deal with monsters and had to experiment and figure it out by themselves.

This concludes part one of our scenario. The rest will be posted some time next week.

was my first thought too. if we get a sequel we gonna play as ciri.
a prologue like we have in dragon age origins plus an dialogue where you tell the other what happened in the past.

will read your long text later, sounds interesting.
