I actually bought another copy of G2 Gold because of how cheap it was. I already had it on Steam, but I hope the GOG copy is more receptive toward mods.

    https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p...hic_storefront

Arcania and Gothic Bundle for sale on -80% the original price on the Humble Store.
The offer will stand for three days. Grab it while it's hot.
    Redeemable on Steam.

EDIT: just noticed the thread is dedicated only to Risen games, so maybe this post of mine is a little off-topic. Still, PB games are PB games.

Very happy to see the boys at GOG.com didn't give up, and came to an arrangement with Nordic to get the Gothics back onto their site. I'm curious what the details of the deal were, since Nordic Games pulled them back when GOG changed to a regional pricing model. I wonder if they made a special exception for them, or found another way to just sweeten the pot for Nordic.

I’m not sure about that agreement with Nordic. Look closely. The games list Piranha Bytes as both developer and publisher. Which is not an error, as GOG.com confirmed in their forum.

Whoahohoho. So Piranha Bytes might have bought the distribution rights back? That's ESPECIALLY weird with Forsaken Gods. Or perhaps it was just another timed publishing/distribution agreement with Nordic after JoWood dissolved. Hopefully this is a good sign, now that the franchise is wholly in Piranha Bytes' control - obviously Nordic likely still owns Arcania, which is irrelevant.

They've always had the rights to the Gothic franchise I believe.
They just rented them out to JoWood for Arcania, which we all know, was acquired by Nordic Games. The latter probably renewed it for a period of time and wondered whether or not to give the series another crack at it before eventually deciding not to.
Correct me if I'm wrong though.

JoWood had exclusive rights to Gothic in its entirety, from publishing to sequels and expansions. But it was only a 10-year deal, which is why Piranha Bytes got the rights back as soon as JoWood went under. It's not just JoWood going under that got them the rights back, it just so happened that they went bankrupt as soon as the contract ended their rights to the franchise. JoWood, of course, knew this all along, which is why they insisted on establishing the Arcania trademark as more of a spin-off of Gothic - this way, they could take off the "Gothic 4" subtitle as soon as they surrendered the rights. After JoWood dissolved and was purchased by Nordic, Nordic owned the rights to Arcania, and wrapped up the Fall of Setarrif expansion, as well as the PS3 edition. Piranha Bytes, busy with Risen 2 and their contract with Deep Silver, went with what I imagine was just the simple option, and made a new publishing agreement with Nordic to reissue the Gothic games in a collector's bundle, as well as distribute the game on digital platforms (Steam, GOG). I'm assuming that deal must have been only temporary, or was otherwise discontinued, which is why PB is now listed as publisher. I'm sure it's much easier for them nowadays since digital distribution has picked up significantly worldwide, whereas in the past, PB/Pluto 13 couldn't hope to handle their own distribution because they would have to handle the arrangement with creating the discs, packaging, shipping and dealing with retailers.

The only curious thing about this is Forsaken Gods. Since that was created with no contribution from Piranha Bytes, I'm actually somewhat surprised that they own the rights to publish it. I'm assuming that, since it exists under the Gothic trademark, that Nordic can't claim ownership of it by virtue of owning JoWood's properties, so in effect, PB got a free game out of the whole debacle - too bad it's literally the worst game ever to be associated with them.

Anyway, I'm glad the games are back on GOG where they belong, since the Steam versions are so frustrating to deal with.

Why first Risen can be bought only in Risen Franchise pack on steam? It's bad.

Anyway, it's better to buy Risen and Risen 2 on gog.com. It's cheaper

    Risen - 1.89 euro
    http://www.gog.com/game/risen

    Risen 2 - 3.69 euro
    http://www.gog.com/game/risen_2_dark_waters

    Risen 2 Gold Edition - 5.49 euro
