Zitat von mnt
Interestingly, the English word "alphabet" is derived from the first three letters of the Arabic alphabet:
Well, if that is your stance it is no wonder you often draw the wrong conclusions.
The English word «alphabet» isn't English, it's obviously Greek, from alpha and beta, the first two letters of the Greek alphabet.
The history of the Arabic alphabet shows that this abjad has changed since it arose. It is thought that the Arabic alphabet is a derivative of the Nabataean variation of the Aramaic alphabet, which descended from the Phoenician alphabet, which among others gave rise to the Hebrew alphabet and the Greek alphabet.
So in essence: the Greek and the Arabic alphabet share a common precursor, the Phoenician alphabet. The Greek alphabet, in its Euboean form, was carried over by Greek colonists to the Italian peninsula, where it gave rise to a variety of alphabets used to write the Italic languages. So it doesn't come as a great surprise if one can still discover some similarities between our respective alphabets. But it is certainly not correct and a misinterpretation that «the English word "alphabet" is derived from the first three letters of the Arabic alphabet».
Nearer to the truth is the notion that Greek as well as Aramaic, Nabataean and Arabic stick so close to the Phoenician source that some root structures can still be made out. However, Arabic surely isn't older than Greek and thus the word «alphabet» cannot "derive" from Arabic.

Scientists has attributed the "Semitic languages"
to Aramaic, Canaanite and Arabic,
And they attributed Aryan to Latin, Greek and Sanskrit..
the Aramaic is the source of Chaldean, Assyrian and Syriac..
And the Canaanite is the source of Hebrew and Phoenician.
...
it is not so eassy "for me" to prove weather the word "alphabet'
is derived from Greek or Arabic..I don't really care..
I just care about Arabic as it's the Language of the Holy Qur'an,
And about those couple of words in Arabic that guarantee Heaven!
when anyone say and beleive in them truly.
