Agree. What's the point in having just another forum? Discussions can be continued in WoR or a thread in WoG.de (and honestly, we could have english threads for a mod, english thread for etc).
Besides, at least here you have a guarantee that the posts will remain for ever (it's self-funded, backed up, etc). I wouldn't risk on posting and spending time in a forum that could get deleted or a HDD failure (no disrespect towards the ones already stated).
At any rate, please don't turn this into a method for advertising your own personal space on the net. If you manage a solid, mature gaming community then by all means, that could be considered as a viable solution.
@Atmus
One link is enough. If I remember correctly we should still follow the rule of no advertising.

What if PB or someone else decide to release new Gothic games? Will the forum be revived?

The Gothic Community at http://darkforests.info never dies, because we are not only big fans of Gothic games but also we (or most of us) are modders and developers of Gothic mods. We cooperate with Gothic communities from around the world, counting Czech republic, Slovakia, Germany, Russia, Poland, Romania and France and other states.
We heard you. And as far as you like to take this opportunity to get some new members to your silent site, this is not about you. And further ads will be deleted.

Sucks. I'm sure something will come up, though.

Do you guys actually believe this forum will stand a chance if you open a general gaming forum? There are dozens of those out, unlike German gaming forums (and there are a few of those too, and they've existed since ages ago). Why won't you just accept the end and move on?
There's liking a game, and then there's being hung up on the past.
-
Of course, nobody is forcing anyone to be part of a possible continuation of the WoG-eng community; I just wonder why people who moan about others being hung up about the past are still here, hung up on the past & moaning about it...? Instead of, you know, being somewhere busy stuck up about the present or something?

Opening another forum is not an option I'm afraid. I'm sure that even before the sad event will take place there will be many with alternative options like regional forums, facebook groups, IRC channels and so on. Truth is that wog is wog. Even if you convince the 10-15 active members to move to another place (instead of split up with 3 or 4 moving to each new forum) there are still maybe hundreds of users that know wog and even if they aren't active now, they will still look for this place in the future whenever they want to connect with other Gothic fans.
The truth is that this kind blow might actually be what kills the Gothic series. Not JoWood or Nordic Games. Despithe the passing of 6 years since the last reasonable Gothic game (some would actually ignore even Gothic 3 in which case there are some 10 years) this franchise was kept more or less alive by the community. Every now and then you would remember about wog, read a few messages from other fans and kinda want to play the whole series again. At least that works for me.
But once you lose contact with all other fans of this series, there might really come that day when I just won't feel like starting another Gothic game again. For now, all hopes lies in PB to do something about this. And even though I'm sure the CSP will be great I don't think it will be so popular as to revive the whole Gothic community.

We are basically delaying the inevitable if some members decide to open a forum dedicated to Gothic. There is no point in creating a fanclub which will just die in a few weeks anyways.

That's a good point. This website is dedicated to Gothic, but the things most people in this community have in common are not limited to Gothic, though that is what brought us together in the first place.
-
We have social networking sites and to some extent reddit for off-topic discussion that is not restricted to Gothic. We don't need a forum for that.
-
Facebook by its nature is terrible for communities, and more than circle jerking with people you know. And merging into existing (huge) communities and social platforms has its own long list of drawbacks.
-
But we'll still have Skype for private conversations though. I meant that Facebook is more for keeping in touch with other members.

Yeah. But it's still not a solution for the survival and the future of the community - it's still only about keeping existing contacts, and with FB and Skype, dissolving the community and reducing it to a few inter-personal relationships. So if one wants there to be a future for the community, neither is an answer.

Hmm, the best solution is IMO that we continue only the Peanuts threads in the German OT boards. It could be stickied, I don't see the problem with it.

That, or people here could just post on WoR once they kill WoG. As long as WoR lasts, anyway.
-
Sad news indeed.
Hate to see it go. I haven't posted myself here in ages but I kept a close eye on the forums along the years and saw it falling into decline steadily as the months passed.
It's been nice while it lasted but sadly all good things come to an end....like the game series that brought us all here.

I don`t read all posts in this thread, but maybe the english section of the WoG can become a subforum on the WoG.de?

It won't solve anything. The forums have very low-bandwidth and it will remain the same as a subforum too.
