Gothic II Gold - Chapter 4 causes crash?
Sorry if the answer to this is floating around here - I tried the stickies and did a search but to no avail (it doesn't seem to be a problem anyone else has had - I've checked around on a few other sites and found no mention of it).
I was hoping someone could shed light on a problem I've been having: while playing Gothic II Gold, the game crashes to desktop with no error message immediately after leaving the loading screen when I enter the Valley of Mines. This occurs no matter which entrance I use. I believe this has something to do with loading Chapter 4, since it never had any problem opening the VoM before, but I could be wrong. If no one has experienced this problem or has any ideas, is there any way to maybe prevent the game from entering the new chapter screen (which might be the problem)?

Hmmm.... try to reinstal the game, and keep the saved games , so you don't have to play all over again

You could try delete "Oldworld.*"(don't remember what extension is) file before entering VoM. Dunno if it'll help, but you could try(don't forget to backup your save, before deleting)

I knew I forgot to mention something - I've already tried reinstalling; I suspect that the problem is with the game, as I've played through vanilla Gothic II before on this computer with no problem (that's how I knew this was the transition to Chapter 4).

There are multiple files named "Oldworld" - several savegames in .sav format, a performance monitoring File in Gothic II\_work\tools\data, and something called _Oldworld.sty in, oddly enough, the newworld music folder. Trying each individually, I found that deleting the .sav files worked! (At least, I was able to enter the VoM and the chapter change screen displayed.) Will post if I run into any problems, but in any case thank you very much for the help!

I am very intrigued.... What happened to the state of the old world when you deleted the .sav file? Are all the creatures respawned that you had previously destroyed? Are all the items respawned that you had picked up?
I have a similar problem when entering the VotM, except it's a slow up problem, so I think I'll try this!
