Bit back, timely behind, as also now, when I was in a bit of a 'quest' to find the most morbid song, I was every time drawn (back) to this song, and to this band:
EKV - Zemlja - The Soil
Yes, another band from the Yogoslav rock scene.
The song text is intriguing, as the synonym 'zemlja' can be interpreted as 'the country', but -in this song- it actually means 'the soil', 'the dirt' (which (will) cover us).
The text of the song is quite streight forward regarding 'the meaning', and quite powerful:
This is a soil for all of us
This is a soil for all our people
This is a home for us
This is a home for all our children
Look at me
Look at me with the eyes of a child
In the soil I see the salvation
From the sleep the voice is awakening us
We do recognise it, while the branches are cuddling our bodies
And the shadows are making a dome for us
Look at me
Look at me with the eyes of a child
I hear it: came back
I hear it: stay
I hear it: came back
Do allow me
I hear it: came back
I hear it: stay
I hear it: came back
Don't go, don't go, don't!
In every defeat I saw a fraction of a freedom
Because when it's over, for me, know, it's just begun
Look at me
Look at me with the eyes of a child
I hear it: came back
I hear it: stay
I hear it: came back
Forgive me
I hear it: came back
I hear it: stay
I hear it: came back
Don't go, gon't go, don't!
PS: All band members succumb to the heroin abuse, so on the vid you're actually (how convenient) looking at the dead people.....
The song is from the 1988.
