Just like in the title, what do we know about the abandoned Gothic I Addon/Expansion. I know that after releasing Gothic, Piranha Bytes had plans to develop an expansion fo the original game, but late they've abandoned the project so they could develop Gothic II. I'm wondering if Piranha Bytes ever released any information/artwork to the public.

I think that the addon was mentioned in a few of last year's interviews, but there wasn't any real information there. One thing I seem to recall reading is that the addon was abandoned because it actually grew into Gothic 2.

Or the soldiers getting raped by dragons in the little flashback when you enter the Valley of Mines. You'd think they would be wearing militia and paladin armors as opposed to Old Camp uniforms.

On the whole the FMVs in Gothic are so half-assed it makes them funny. Even the hero's ponytail has malfunctions in between scenes (and sequels).

I think Mike confirmed recently that they were working on an add-on for G1, and as it became bigger, it just turned into a whole stand-alone game.

Well, I would agree with You on that because it seems logical, however in an interview for Gothicz.net Mike Hoge states that the addon was canceled and they only used a little bit of content from it and that when they started working on Gothic 2 they actually started from scratch. So it seems that the story must have been different from the one in Gothic 2. Still, I don't think there is any information about the addon out there since I still can't find any.

A dev said this is not from the cancelled addon.
The only thing we have from it is this artwork and parts of the Gothic-2-Intro. And we know there were no dragons.

maybe they wanted to make the chromanin quest in such a way that if you follow the path of addanos you find a living person who helps you and baal netbek to turn the swamp into a beautiful meadow of flowers

that's what happened in returning mod more or less, unfortunately without a quest. so yes that is a beautiful idea for additional mod
