Hello,

I saw that Gothic 3 was available on Steam as part of a package (Gothic 1, Gothic 2 & Gothic 3).

I originally played Gothic 3 which, as you may remember, was released full of bugs by Jowood. It is only thanks to a GREAT community patch that I was able to fully enjoy this great game (and complete it).

My question is thus: if I purchase Gothic 3 from Steam, which version will I get? The bugged version? Or the patched one?

The Steam site makes no mention of the version so it might be 1.2. However, it's easy and free to upgrade to 1.75 so the current sale at $5 is a still good deal. GOG has the 1.75 version for $10 without DRM.

I believe the one on steam is with CP 1.6
You can manually download CP 1.75 and apply it after you install the game.

BTW: if the game is v1.6 (likely) it's quite playable as is but it's still better to update to 1.75.

Can you please tell mw how I find the current version? And, if it is indeed version 1.6, what is the best site to download the latest stable community patch?

And, most importantly, are there special instruction to execute the patch given that I have absolutely no idea where Steam installed Gothic 3 on my PC?

When you run the patch, there should be an option to browse for a new location.

If you ran the default Steam install, it should be under Program files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common

Well if you want to try only one game like Gothic 1 or Gothic 2 go to GOG but If you want all of them at once go to Steam. I usualy preffer GoG on older games becuase it gives you more freedom with mods and stuff and you get some nice things with it like soundtrack etc.

BTW, as a heads up for anyone who doesn't yet have all of the games: some of the Gothic titles are on sale right now:

Gothic 2 (inc NoTR), Gothic 3 and Gothic: Forsaken Gods, each for $3.99. G3 is patched up to 1.75 and FG to 2.00.16.
