Two weeks ago, we started a petition against potentially harmfull copy protection measures on Gothic 3 on the page www.mondgesaenge.de together with the two communities World of Gothic and Jowood Forum. Now there is an english version of this petition online:

Against Unacceptable Copy Protection Techniques
on the Computer Game Gothic 3

The undersigned of this petition request that the computer game "Gothic 3" shall be released only with copy protection methods that are acceptable to the consumers. We petitioners find it unacceptable if the use of this computer game results in any one of the following consequences:

• An interference into the computer system that is unusual for common applications, for example the installation of device drivers or the modification of system files.
  
  
• The installation of a program that reports information about the user or his computer system to anyone without the user's prior approval.
  
  
• A forced registration, regardless if online or via phone.
  
  
• "Digital rights management" that allows the publisher to restrict the period of playability for the game.

In particular, we request that "Gothic 3" not use "Starforce" copy protection, because it implements some of the foregoing objectionable consequences.

I have a problem. I tried to sign the petition, and it said that a mail was sent to my mail account. But the mail never comes. How much time should I wait? Also, could this be because I tried to sign the german petition, and failed because that mail didn't come either? I checked my typing and it's correct. I haven't mistyped my mail address. I dont know what else to do.

If you already registered with the german petition then you can't join again. It uses the same database and all people are listed in both version.

what if this petition will succed and PB will remove this Starforce copy protection system. What next? Will they use something different? I mean your next choice can be worst as this one! dunno :P

Did you not read the petition description? It's not sure that they will use Starforce. This is just a means of being sure they wont do somehing like this. And PB doesn't decide which protection they will use(i think). The publishers decide on that.

How can you agree with StarForce when it does things that are illegal. You cannot fight something illegal(software piracy) with something that is also illegal(StarForce=installing and doing things on someone's computer without his permission)
