Mouse will not function in G3 with patch 1.6. I am at level 30, this just happened, but I cannot get the mouse to work by going to other gamesaves or by restarting the game or PC. My mouse works otherwise, it even works on the options screens, just not in game.

I also checked the drivers for updates, it is all good.

today patch 1.75 is available and you play with 1.6? Lol whatever...
did you check in the gothic 3 menu? maybe there is a option that turns mouse off (allowing only buttons to work) try looking maybe it somehow turned off after loaded game or something...

I am reinstalling G3 - I already checked out all the basic stuff. I like the G3 basic - it is more casual than the super-duper patched one.

Super-duper patched one? You mean like without bugs and improved performance? Well if you like to play with 1341983 bugs and performance problems, be my guest but I'd strongly advise you to get that 1.75. It is a huge advance compared to 1.6...
If you are talking about alternative balance and stuff like that, you can turn those off

OK, I reinstalled Gothic 3, and the mouse problem is still there. My mouse works on all screens (like inventory and the menu) but not in game.

You mean it appears only when you are in menu and in inventory and it is invisible ingame? Well, that is normal, considering you use the mouse to change direction of moving.

Not exactly, I cannot use the mouse to control the characters actions or movements. No direction change, action 1 or action 2.

Then I guess it must be a problem in the ini folder, in the ge3.txt configuration file. Something I think it is messed there, but i do not know how to help you exactly. From what I remember, when i first installed gothic 3 I had no problem with mouse, just with computer, because i had a weak one ( back then when there were no patches). Maybe patch 1.6 is bugged. Try reinstalling and apply another patch, and see if you encounter the same problem. Or, it may be from mouse drivers. I do not have any more ideas.

Try standard key bindings if you have custom ones. I'm throwing that idea out there because if I recall correctly you can bind camera direction keys (set to mouse X and Y by default). Maybe something's off there.

Where are the ini files? Is that user options in MyDocuments?

So did you try re-setting your controls from inside the game? Seriously, control settings could conceivably be the problem.

I went to Steam support and on the forums a guy has the identical problem. It occured after 21 hours of play. MINE OCCURED AFTER 21 HOURS OF PLAY. I therefore conclude it is a steam bug. I will await steams reply to the help request.

You didn't tell us that. You mean to say that you played G3 for 21 hours (cumulatively) and then the mouse problem struck, but it worked fine before 21 hours? That's one odd bug, methinks.

If you start a new game, does the mouse work again?

Yeah, I tried to restart a game and the mouse was still not working.

Anway, the other guy, on the Steam forum, his mouse stopped working at 21 hours of gameplay too. That is why I think it is a steam bug.
