Why does my framerate drop on NVidia cards?


Symptom:

You have a NVidia graphics card. Risen 2 runs fine and smoothly at first but after a while, the game starts to stutter and the framerate drops.

Cause:

It appears that the NVidia 3DVision drivers before version 301.24 are responsible for this effect. These drivers are automatically installed with the NVidia drivers package on all 3DVision capable cards.

Solution:

Go to the system control panel and uninstall “NVIDIA 3D Vision Controller Driver xxx.xx” and “NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver xxx.xx”.

Where are the configuration files and the savegames?

The configuration files are located in your Steam installation directory under:

• Steam\SteamApps\Common\Risen 2\Data\Ini

The savegame files are located in your user profile under:

• %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Risen2\SaveGames (for Windows XP, english)
• %userprofile%\Saved Games\Risen2 (for Windows Vista and newer)

Why do I have graphics problems with my ATI/AMD card?


Symptoms:

• Missing or transparent textures (objects, clothing, etc.)
• Stripes or artefacts in textures
• Stripes or artefacts in shadows
• any other display glitch

Cause:

It seems as if the optical enhancements which the Catalyst driver forces onto the game cause these problems.

Solution:

Open the control center for the Catalyst driver of your card and deactivate all picture enhancement functions, especially the “Catalyst A.I.” and all anti-aliasing functions (set to “application controlled” or similar).

Why do I have problems with Risen 2 on my AMD FX platform?


Symptoms:

You have a CPU from AMD's FX series (Bulldozer) and experience one or more of the following problems:

• Your PC freezes completely
• Your PC reboots all of a sudden
• Your PC stops with a BSOD (bluescreen of death)
• The game crashes or shows weird behaviour

Cause:

This is likely caused by a bug in the processor's microcode. It seems to mess up the interrupt handling, causing all kinds of problems. See also: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...platforms.aspx

Solution:

Look for an update for the BIOS or UEFI firmware of your mainboard and install it. The UEFI firmware should then patch the processor's microcode on boot, thus fixing the problem.

How do I activate my DLCs?


Problem:

You have been given a code for a DLC for Risen 2 and don't know what to do with it.

Solution:

DLCs are unlocked via the Steam software. Start it, go online and then open the "Games" menu on the top of the Steam window. Select "Activate a Product on Steam" (see this Screenshot). Then simply follow the instructions, you will be asked for the code. If everything worked correctly, you can start Risen 2 and look in the Extras menu to see your unlocked content.

Problem:

You want official support from Deep Silver.

Solution:

Deep Silver has subsidiaries in the UK, France, Italy and Spain which are all available by clicking on the respective country's flag on the Deep Silver Support Website. There is a contact form and a phone number (charged 1 GPB per minute according to Deep Silver). Customers from other countries are asked to contact the UK support.

Do I really need NVidia’s PhysX? Even if I have an AMD graphics card?


Answer:

Yes! You need PhysX in any event! No matter which graphics card you are using!

PhysX is a library for physics calculations. While those calculations can be delegated to the graphics chip on NVidia cards, resulting in much more physical effects possible, that is only optional. If there is no NVidia card, then the calculation will be done by the CPU. If you do not have PhysX installed, the game cannot do its physics math and will not work.
