I can't help but feel bad for them. I hope they'll get back on their feet.

Especially because it seems that Arcania had TONs of Executive meddling leading to much of its crappiness.

However, I doubt that there was much meddling in the story department.

Of course it was. JW planned to make Arcania the first title in a new series, with little to no connection to gothic. So they pretty much dictated the direction all of it was going. Also, I can't imagine anyone at SB thinking the plot with the pregnant girlfriend was a good idea.

In contrary to NoGood, ich feel bad for them, because they really did produce some pretty good games
RPG was just not their genre.

Sad news, but such is life. Jowood is likely the cause for all this mess. I do recall that the early concept was entirely different than the finished game. At some point of the development they must have decided to take the series into whole different direction. It wasn't what we fans wanted. All the parties involved paid the price for not understanding what gothic games were about. Spellbound are not the first to make such mistake and they aren't certainly the last.

The good thing is that pb have the gothic rights now. Hopefully they return to gothic world after risen 2.

I remember EDL being so positive about the game in the beginning. Then, after he was fired, everything went to hell. I miss the guy, he was a good community manager.

I wonder about this. Where are they getting the money from?
Were they paid for a finished game? Had they something to say in the game development process? Were they paid per each sold file or what did happen there?

Afaik they invested in a company that bombed. I might be wrong, though.
