I know that there are other video games with championships and such (Call of Duty, WoW etc.)
lolwut? WoW hardly has tournaments.
The only major CoD tournament is the 1 million MLG tournament.

I knew about CoD, I just assumed that WoW would have too, never played it myself.

Starcraft 2 does have tournaments though, and I'm really into it

Risen 2

Just played the odd hour here and there and haven't got beyond Tacarigua yet. Seems so-so'ish so far. There is a bit of that "good old" feeling, but not very much. The incessant cussing and general "ooh look what a tough guy I am"-dialogue wears thin, and combat vs. monsters seems pretty clumsy and unwiedly.

I've finally completed the main quest so the game doesn't sit there constantly begging to be played. It wasn't that bad of a main quest in comparison with Oblivion and Skyrim, and it felt less pressing and more investigative. Unfortunately it ends on a underwhelming note like most quest lines in TES, with yet another magical item to add to the pile of crap you don't know where to sell and a "thank you chosen one/guildmaster". As the chosen one you never get to see any changes in the world as a result of your divine buttkicking and as a guildmaster you don't get to make any decision at all. On the whole the game doesn't even try not to be static, but at least this was 2001, when there were less resources for developing over at Bethesda and in general. And the leveling system is kind of terrible, forcing you to train skills you don't need just so you can raise your attributes.

Got some nostalgia feeling again, so I'm hitting my nose into the old chest of old games. And for now, I'm grinding off Icewind Dale.

What are some really good action RPGs from the late 90s and early 2000s? I'm talking about the era and caliber of Gothic, Arx Fatalis, Deus Ex... any ideas?

The only game I will probably be playing for the next months or more is SW:TOR. Maybe the reason why I'm so engrossed is because I have never played a MMORPG before; except for RuneScape, but I don't know whether it counts here
Is there any MMORPG worth investing money in? I was considering Guild Wars 2 since so many praise it, but I don't know, The Elder Scrolls Online will be released pretty soon

oh! and what do you think of SWTOR? as its free, i am contemplating giving it a shot.
as to guild wars, rashnu is your expert for gw2. though from personal experience, i can say it is 'good', considering you pay once and never again. it has stunning graphics and the levelling, too, is fun. though, it somewhere lost in the endgame.

The classes and abilities seem to be pretty fun, and contray to what I expected, the stories are pretty good
The free-to-play version is quite large too

it the best free mmo i've played and could rival wow if wow didn't win by default against any other mmo
-
seems sound! i will definately look into it - there are alot of good mmos about to come out, so i will rethink getting into a new one. (signed up for the neverwinter beta, tes-online not to forget) thanks for the information though

I thought the days of WoW were long gone?
And is it f2p now, or what?

no, and no
though, by registering a battle.net account, you can download a free starter edition of wow. this allows you to level up to level 20 (max) for free. to get a higher level, you have to pay from then on.
similar for diablo 3, where blizzard too provide a starter edition.

It's not as big as LoL, D3 or GW2 communities but it's still pretty lively from what I hear.

It is one. And free, too.

+8 million people subscribed =/= dead

to justify TudoracheMG's point, i guess he is right in saying the initial 'hype' which wow created is over. this obviously doesnt mean it is still a very popular game, played by (as you said) 8m+ people.
a huge number, crazy if you think about it especially when you consider the game is like 8 years old
