When did you see a Guard offering beer to one of the Shadows in Gothic? It's a damn colony, there is no "profit" for Guard offering a beer to Shadow. If he'd offer a beer to Ore baron, that'd make sense...

You're exaggerating/generalising a bit, aren't you? Otherwise, why would they let Mordrag sell their own stuff to them, and set his stall next to Jackal?

Shadows are the guards' subordinates (or are, at least, inferior to them, but still part of the camp), and act as inferiors would. Just as there are kind bosses IRL, why shouldn't there be in the colony?

Are you implying that all criminals are the same? So what about Diego? Why didn't he rob Nameless blind when he was spending half the time running around the colony with thousands of ore and artifacts?

It's a bit cheesy to have a random guard friend, and it's generally cheesy to RP yourself as a "supershadow" who has lots of contacts and ore, but that's what most people do anyway.
