Hi there!
When I'm starting Gothica III, just after developers movies it's returning to windows and writing following mistake:

gothic3.exe
caused a EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
in module usp10.dll at 001B:753F2645
UspFreeMem()+82284 byte(s)

I have a laptop toshiba sattelite M60,
intel centrino 1.8 GHz
1 gB RAM,
video ATI mobility radeon x600 256 mB.
windows XP home, SP2 (and all last downloads)

I've tried video drivers "Catalyst 6.8" and newest "Catalyst 6.11", downloaded DirectX from CD and nothing helps. Yes, of course my processor a little bit weaker then shold be, but I think it's not the problem
What could it be?

I have the same problem about once a week and I have a near top of line system. When that happens, I immediately start the game again and it works ok.

The next time it happens to you, immediately try starting the game again.

I've tried, it doesn't work. just kick me out after few seconds with the same message... It's a pity, after so attractive music during installation, screanshots etc...

Well, mobile gpu's are not supported, i haven't a laptop to try around, so sorry, you could try to work through the sticky FAQ and see if something helps you.

EDIT:
I've solved the problem. I've found on russian forums, that if you download the file usp10.dll from internet to windows/system32 it should helps, so I've done it and it works! You can add it to your FAQ, because as I understand from that forums it's more or less usuall problem.

downloaded version: 1.405.2416.1

original version: 1.420.2600.2180

I'm not a computer guru - can you explain me a little bit what the mechanism, I did it like a dog, when somebody ask it to bring the stick...

and may be it's not so good, that I downloaded older version? But it works. May be you can send me your file since it has the same version and works too?

Well, if it fixes that problem, it doesn't matter much.

Since your original version was the same as mine, I don't think sending you my file will make a difference.

yes, it's from 2001, I've thought that it's strange, but decided to try (keeping original file) and it orks. Could you send me your file in zip, if it works?

EDIT: just interesting to try, don't you think?

EDIT: may be the problem that original windows XP SP2 version of usp10.dll has a problem with russian fonts in some applications (was found somewhere deep in web). I have a russian-translated Gothic III...

I think this might be against windows xp eula and other copyright laws.

So let's end the discussion about this here, or the thread will have to be closed.

Use services from the net, like dll-files.com, or other resources that are sure to be legal.
