reinstall the drivers for your sound card, at least the latest version... this is required for the game... it "EATS" a lot of resources...
having latest directx installed ?... have you configured the correct number of channels for the game ?... selected EAX on/off ? ... played with the settings of the game and still no clue ?...
if none of those don`t work, then give some more info..

I tried everything I know, but for some reason I can't hear the speech, I'm completely clueless when it comes to sound cards and it's deficult to explain, what info do you need?
I was hoping that someone else would have meet the same problem.
I have run across this also playing F.E.A.R. Try uninstalling any multimedia codecs you might have installed. At least that was my issue and all I could find on the web about it too. With me it was the Ace Mega Codecs Pack installed in the Pro mode. Hope that helps.
Edit: sorry I some how missed the link with the fix. Doh!
Edit again: That fix didn't help in my case. The game here does not loose it's sound, it loads up in a black screen, "not responding". I have to kill it via the task manager. I installed the codecs to watch a video file a while back and after that the problem starts. Only cure for me was to uninstall the codecs.
