Nothing happens, when I press ''~''. I already changed TestMode=false to TestMode=true in ge3.ini file.
In XP i didn't had any problems with this game, but now i bought laptop with Vista and console doesn't work. I also had error problems, but I fixed it

If you are really sure that testmode is set to true (sometimes Vista prevents saving the changes)... I don't know, you could blame Vista.

If you have the game installed in Program Files (the default location) you could try reinstalling to somewhere else (like in the root of the C: partition)

Hi Hitman,
I had the same problem and there are still some problems spawning things with more than one word but perhaps this will help.
Disable the UAC account so that you can make changes Test=false to Test=true.
Create a folder named _compiledImage inside your gothic3\Data folder.
In _compiledImage folder create a folder named _intern
in the end you should have something like this:
C:\Gothic3\Data\_compiledImage\_intern\

Whilst playing the game press the key to the left of the #1 to open the console and you get a somewhat squashed copy of the screen at the top.Type in the cheat code and press the return key.
You may not see the typing as it just looks like pixel blocks of varying sizes so you have to be careful what you type.
If you need to put in a "_" its the key to the left of the right shift key. On my keyboard its the "? and /" key.

check your controls, the key left to the '1' must not be assigned.

And if you don't get it working via the ini: try the old-fashioned way:
type in marvin while in game (must be done very fluent and none of the keys must be bound to a stats/quest window). You get then a red message on the screen the the test made was activated.

Marvin mode and testmode are the same thing, they activate the console & the debug commands. Typing 'marvin' and editing the ge3.ini file are just 2 different methods to activate 1 thing.

So, my suspicions are true. I have no idea how to solve it, I guess there are some changes on how vista treats the keyboard (different driver, dlls, etc.) than XP. But why the ~ key?

This is a translation from the technical FAQ in the German forum, perhaps one of these things help:

• Update the keyboard driver
• Deactivate the infrared-receiver if the keyboard has one
• If your computer has a remote control, unplug the receiver

and as already earlier written: check if the key left to the 1 is assigned to something in your control settings. If yes: delete that assignment.

EDIT: If you play on a Laptop:
Try to uninstall the "Microsoft eHome-Infraredtransceiver" (in conmtol Panal ->Device Manager -> Human Interface Devices; this will also uninstall some other drivers, but:
Vista re-install everything when you reboot => so you don't loose anything but you have to do everything when you want to use the console again...
