When I have bought Gothic 3 , I have received a CD-KEy too, but I never used it and game work. Question: for what is the serial?

protection ofcourse! EVERY game comes with protection key, without it you wont play the game. only if you (use crack) sorry i know you can't talk about illegal stuff here, but i just wanted to make it clear for that guy.

You don't understand: I've never used that CD Key that come with DVD and still play the game. The game DIDN'T ask for such thing, not when installing, not when playing

Is it possible you got the digital download version? I'm not sure, but that version probably came integrated with CP 1.74, which, I believe, removes the copy protection and hence, did not ask for your cd key...
Just clutching at straws here, though...

I got a DVD from "Level magazine" I have bought. And yes, I installed CP 1.74. But the DVD already had CP 1.73 on it that I could install after installing full game, but I installed 1.74

Even I've never actually needed to authenticate my game. I install from the dvd, then install the CP 1.74 and then I'm ready to play. My guess is the CD Key was used earlier before the CPs came out for an online authentication. Maybe someone who had the game before the CP came out can enlighten us?
At some point, Community Patch Team released it's patch 1.52 version, which was a Christmas present to all Gothic fans. That patch removed Copy protection of the game.
I don't know whether on purpose or not, but all the patches that followed kept this setting, which means CPT 1.74 comes with this feature as well.

Is this from the march 2010 issue of Level?
CPT made it for simplification of the multilingual patch installer creation since various language versions used different copy protection systems, for example, the EFIGS version used TAGES, and Russian - StarForce. Unfortunately, I don't know, what copy protection systems were at the Polish, Hungarian, Czech and Chinese versions. I hope that you understand unwillingness of CPT to do a separate installer and to adjust a copy protection system for each language version of Gothic 3.
