RULES
#1: This is a no reloads game which means that whatever choices you make, you made 'em and that's it. You save when you stop playing and load when you start playing again. When you die it's game over.
#2: Please leave thread-destructive comments like "Playing this way is stupid" or "You're missing the whole point of Gothic" aside. This method of playing is for experienced and very patient players as it requires a lot of forward planning. So if you don't like it, don't do it.
#3 When you want to participate, make a clear statement on it and an introductory post where you'll put your character build (more on this later) and if you plan on roleplaying, some personality info.
#4 Clearly mark your official character diary posts with a headline like "Huntsman's Hardcore Dragon Hunter" so that they are easy to find amongst other user comments.
#5 DO NOT CHEAT, THIS IS FOR FUN ONLY. No one will win big bucks or ultimate respect for beating the game with a mage in a day or killing a dragon snapper at lvl 1.
#6: Mods that don't change the storyline are allowed, and listed in the "Modded Games" section.
#7 BY TAKING PARTICIPATION IN THIS CHALLENGE YOU ARE OBLIGED TO CLEARLY MARK THE POST WHERE YOU STATE YOUR CHARACTER'S DEATH OR VICTORY OVER THE CHALLENGE IN LARGE, COLORED FONT
TIPS
#1 Be very careful and plan your every move.
#2 If you're not sure you can handle it...RUN!
#3 Don't hesitate to ask for advice in this thread like "Do you guys think I could do the black troll at lvl 25 with Large Fire Storm?"
#4 Do not attack enemies in groups. Lure every enemy, no matter how weak it/he is.
#5 In hardcore brave = stupid and dead in most cases.
#6 Idle hands are devil's playground. If you suddenly feel like risking it for quick booty - call it a day.
#7 Don't go near cliffs and when you do - walk instead of run. There is a great chance you could fall and end your adventure in a stupid way. After all, it's realistic to slip up in an unknown, steep mountain path.
#8 Do not have mercy for your enemies. Never let it attack, always keep it at a distance and use all power that you have available.

BENEFITS OF HARDCORE
#1 Everything seems different. The dialogues, the world, the enemies, it's a whole new Gothic experience. Recommended for players who've already beaten Gothic with every character and know their way around.
#2 When an NPC tells you "Wow, you're brave!" there's a great chance you'll really feel this way, even if it's not much, because you're putting your life on the line here and not just reloading 10 times until you make 2 critical hits in a row in order to kill the enemy.
#3 You just wanna read through all the dialogues...again. Trust me.
#4 Makes you feel real and alive.
#5 You won't feel guilty for knowing the game and it's secrets, weapons and being good at it. This is where it all counts.

Don't you have a back-up save file? the game tends to bug often, always have a back-up save slot in case something like that happens.

The aggressive boars. I made one mistake: I remembered there was one fewer of them than there actually was. I had a buddy with me, but the last one managed to get two lucky strikes on me.
I knew it was gonna be my end when I saw them come running down and there was one more than I counted on. FFFFUUUUUUUU- I thought, but when the last one was left, I had okayishly health and it would've required one more strike to fell, I was already feeling hopeful. But in vain.
Oh well. Damn.
Level too pitiful to mention.
Alright, think i've prepared anything, i made myself a list with all things i need to do and other stuff, this is gone be exciting (after the fail last time in chapter 4 iceblocked by IceGolem)

Well, I know a lot about the game itself, I just haven't passed it yet. However, the first two chapters I've got down fairly well. :)
I think I'll try it... I'm sure to be dead at a pathetically low level, though.
just keep up the good spirit, no matter how many times you die-start over, you should try once more :), and if it's too hard for you, then try to pass the game for the first time, without going hardcore...
Don't need to ask for tips, read the first post, tips there are simple and great, helped me a lot, since i was dieing a lot at the beginning.

Guild/Class: 2H Mercenary (I'm playing 1H Paladin in my normal profile, so I wanted to try a merc)

Day 1
I exhausted the dialogue with Xardas at the beginning, and proceeded to do exactly like he said, and take everything I could find. I read the bookstands, took things from his chests, tables, shelves and even wood basket. Then I took all the herbs from downstairs, including the dragonroot and goblinberries (a great addition). The belt of force was promptly put on. I ate the dragonroot and goblinberries, which I now realize I should have saved...oh well.
Feeling slightly safer with my sturdy stick in hand, I proceeded to kill the evil sheep with two blows. I went down towards the goblin and finished him off. He didn't hurt me. Feeling a bit puffed up, considering I had thought the goblin was going to kill me, I grabbed the bow hidden by the tree and entered the cave. I killed the goblin guard, and then the three other goblins. They took out half of my health, and I decided that it was probably not a good idea to proceed towards the field raiders, young as they were.
Instead, I left the cave and headed towards town, killing the wolf on the way. This didn't seem as hard as it did the first time I played this part, which is probably bad because I'm going to get careless. Anyway, I talked to Cavalorn, and we went and killed the bandits. Sure, there are other ways to get mor XP, but I don't really care. I say the bandits got what they deserved.
After this, I went to Lobart's farm, where I helped him pick turnips, talked to Matheld (or whoever the sheperd is), and got the pot from the traveling merchant. I didn't accept his pass, because I don't want to help him doing his dirty business, and I didn't think I'd be strong enough to deal with whatever he was going to do if I didn't fulfill my pledge.
Anyway, I got the farmers clothes for 40 gold, and went into town. I avoided Greg, and just went behind the guards backs to get into town, since I've heard that there is some special things that can happen that way. I let Lothar explain the rules of the city to me, and called it a day...or an hour, or fifteen minutes or whatever.
I'll post more once I get a bit farther. Thanks for the encouragement! I haven't hit any of the hardest parts yet, so I'll see how I do. :)

Day 2
To kick the day off, I went and began my long day/s of becoming an apprentice to Bosper the Bowmaker (I was an apprentice to the blacksmith before). First, I talked to Matteo. He told me about Gritta, who was Thorben's niece. I wanted to solve this differently than before, so I talked to Thorben. Then I went and listened to Gritta's story before threatening to sell her stuff (same as I did before). She forked over the gold. When I talked to Thorben, however, he told me that I needed to give him the gold, because she had taken it. I did, so I ended up losing 100 gold. But at least I wasn't paying for that stuck-up liar, Gritta.
Next I got the hides for Bosper by going into the valley with Lester, avoiding the field raiders as I went. Lester told me that I could get into town by pretending to be Constatino's helper, so that is my plan. I was ready to sneak back into town, when I was caught by Greg. I gave him my farmer's clothes to get the XP, and was on my way to the smith. The carpenter and the smith both game me jobs to do, but before I got caught by the guards, I wanted to talk to Lares and get my XP bonus, which I did.
However, there was a hitch. On my way, Moe decided I looked a little too rich. After I pissed him off, I ran away, worried about dying, towards Pablo. Pablo thought I was the attacker, and dealt me a crippling blow. I was then robbed, and left to die, recovering some time later. Luckily I had a spiked club in my reserve from the bandits.
Feeling much more subdued,I went to Constatino to get his approval. He said he wanted nothing to do with criminals of my sort. Well! What I wasn't able to explain was that I didn't start the fight. Oh well. Next I went and got my blessing from Vatras, as well as got the "Ring-of-Water" quest. After having taken such a beating, I decided to call it a day. Having no money to speak of, I knew that I would have to sell more stuff or go to the fire mage Isgaroth. It was a daunting prospect, and I decided to call it another "day."
Thanks again for reading my "diary." I have changed my mind, and think I'll become a Paladin this time. However, I'll probably focus on being a dextrous mage/archer/paladin. I know, it's quite a combo. My current Paladin has lots of mana, however, and I feel that it should workout fine without runes. Suggestions? I haven't spent any of my LP yet, except for that which was needed to learn skinning.

Near-death experiences so far: wolfs... cuz I act too bravely and overconfident and that smells like death in hardcore games, doesn't it? But I was lucky so far... :)
Yea and I plan to take it slowly... so it's gonna take a while to finish this. You know how they say though: slowly but surely ^_^

I'm planning to give it a try. I've already tried 2 times to see how it works and I died pretty fast. Is it forbidden to beat Biff and drop Dragon Slayer so he can take it and use to help me? In terms of cheating ofc.

Day 1
After being beaten by Bullit and saved by Diego, I talked to him. He explained me what is going on in the Colony. He told me to meet him in the Old Camp. Well, I have to get out of here. I'll find some way to get past this barrier.
I decided to explore a little bit. I searched those two chests near some collapsed mine. Took a pickaxe and climbed. I wanted to see the area from above. I saw some scavengers (or whatever their name was) and killed them. Then I saw a goblin. "Easy prey", I thought. But... he ALMOST killed me! THAT'S IT! I'm going to the Camp.
I talked to those two hunters and walked inside the Old Camp. Diego explained me how can I join their Camp. Thorus, he is the one I was supposed to talk to, told me to stay close to Diego and follow he guidelines. He also gave me a special task. "Get rid of the Mordrag", he said. I decided to take a walk around the Camp. I talked to some of the Diggers and they told me to pay guards for protection. No way! I had to evade them but it wasn't impossible. Talked to Snaf, and promised to bring him some ingredients, and helped some shadow get his sword from Fisk. Dexter gave me an assignment to get some sort of recipe from Cor Kalom. I spoke with Mordrag and, after he persuaded me, went to New Camp.
When I saw some people working in the field (if you can call that a field), I talked to them and they told me to evade those guys near the building, which I managed. On my way to the Camp I also talked to Jarvis and Homer (or whatever his name was). There I brought Mordrag's ring to Lares and asked him if I could join them. He told me to steal and sell some guy's weed. Before that I decided to take a look at the mine. I meet Swiney, who gave me some clothes, and came back. Baal Kagan asked me to distribute 'free gifts' and asked me what kind of reward I wanted. I said "help me join the Swamp Camp", because you can never have too many options :) He gave me some sort of special weed. Inside the tavern (they let me in because I was dressed like one of the Moles), I met Baal Isidro and 'convinced' him to give me the weed. I sold it and gave the ore to Lares and Baal Isidro. I also talked to Mordrag (Lares wanted him to go to the Swamp Camp) and to the brewing guy who told me about Horace (?). Thanks to this he helped me to become stronger. Before I left I also bought a ring (Strength +5) and paid Cord to teach me how to use one handed sword.
Then I returned and gave Snaf what he wanted and talked to Thorus about my 'quest'. He wasn't very happy but thanked me for getting rid of the Mordrag. I also forged myself a sword - not the best sword in the world but it is better than nothing. It was almost night. I talked to a guy named 'Guy' and decided to call it a day. Who knows what will happen tomorrow.

Alright guys, I haven't died yet, but I haven't done much on my hardcore profile. Keep in mind I'm still playing my normal profile as well, and I want to pass the game. So, I'll try to stay in touch with my hardcore, but it won't be really often.

Yeah. I haven't passed the original game yet (I have the NotR addon), and just wanted to try it hardcore. But I'm still mostly playing my normal profile. Oh, and it's a good idea to post the stats of your 'character' each 'day.' I think I'll have to start doing that. :)

I do, at least those that are a bit more than "completed quest X, killed monster Y, learned skill Z, continue tomorrow"... eg. the ones that contain either some degree of storytelling, some musing on the progress or discussion on motives on doing something etc.
Day 2
I woke up in my little house. I still couldn't believe it wasn't just a nightmare. I'm in THAT Colony. And it was raining. I have a bad feeling about this.
I went to Snaf to get something to eat and bought some lockpicks. I didn't know how to pick locks, but who knows, It can't be that difficult. I asked Diego for some training (str + 10) and I went to talk to Baal Parvez. I told him I want to join the Swamp Camp. We went there...
When we reached our destination, he told me to go to Cor Kalom. He will take care of me. The guards at the gate asked me why am I here. When I told them I want to join, they became very polite. Nice :) The first guy in the Camp I talked to was Lester. He gave me a broader view of what is going on in here. He said I can't talk to guru's until they will talk to me first. I asked him to show me the way to the Cor Kalom's laboratory and, on our way there, I asked him how can I convince Baal's to talked to me. He told me his plan about convincing Baal Namib.
I went to Cor Kalom, who didn't care about what I was saying, and when he wasn't watching I took that recipe from one of the chests. It wasn't that hard. Near the lab I met Fortuno, who gave me a free gift. More weed. Wow, they really smoke too much of this stuff. I went to Daron, the blacksmith, and took his stuff from his chest. It could prove to be useful if I was going to stay here a loooong time. On my way back I met Joru, who gave me a few hints after taking my 'free gift' And I recognized one of the Diggers from Old Camp. He was from that Camp. He told me his friend stayed in Old Camp and that he should come here ASAP. When I went to Lester he started talking to me in a different way. I said I wanted to join them and that I don't believe in other gods. It worked. Baal Namib told me he will support me. I decided to take a walk around the Camp and find something more to do here.
I met Ghorim, who was supposed to be relieved by Harlok. But he still didn't come. I decided to help him. I 'persuaded' Harlok to do it. He wasn't that tough. When I went to check If he will keep his word, Baal Orun told me to go to the swamp and get a daily portion of swamp weed. There I met a guy called Baal Netbek. I KNEW they shouldn't smoke that shit! Balor gave me his weed without any problem, but Viran wanted me to kill all nearby Bloodflies. I don't know if they are that weak or I am that strong, but it was piece of cake. I went to Cor Kalom to give him his weed and went back to Baal Orun. He gave ma a spell. I could put someone to sleep with it. Interesting.
I used my 'special weed' on Baal Tyon, which 'convinced' him to support my joining and use my spell on one of Baal Cadar's apprentice. It was very easy. He was shocked that someone could use, as he said, Sleeper's Magic and said he will teach me this stuff. The only guru left was Baal Tondral. He is a complete opposite to the other guru. He really talk too much. He asked me to bring some new members of the Camp. Hmm... Before I went back I bought a ring (+5 protection against weapons)
When I got back to Old Camp I met this 'Melvin's friend' and told him that his friend is waiting for him. Unfortunately he will need some ore to get out. I'll have to prepare myself for this trip.
I also met Bloodwyn, who wanted 'money for protection'. I declined because I'm not that weak anymore. He said I will regret that. We'll see...
I went to Diego for training and a guy named Grim said he knows how to get to the Old Camp faster. I prepared myself (str +20) and we went to take care of some bandits or something. I KNEW it will be a bad day. Bloodwyn hired them to punish me for not paying him. He wasn't man enough to face me personally. Of course I was too good for them. I decided not to stay for a night here. I went to New Camp. Here everyone was one their own. I talked to one of the mercenaries - Gorn. He said I can't join them - yet. But if I want to stay, I'll have to kick someone out of his house. He even said who I should kick out. There was a noisy fella. Pretty weak. After telling Gorn about my small victory he said I can keep that house. Great!
It was dark already so I decided to go to sleep.

Near death experiences: in the swamp camp I was hunting bloodflies, and I came upon a bloodfly that was standing beside a swampshark... I tried to atk it with my bow... the arrow stroke something... but not the bloodfly. After this I was like OH SHIT!! RUN!!! RUNNNNN!!!~ yeah I forgot to tell you- I was in sneak state and I had a hard time to toggle it back to normal... heheh. But eventually I managed to escaped, and that's what it matters :D
Sorinash - I really think you risk too much :D Especially in such early part of the game.

But what else makes a game more entertaining? Hardcore gaming+danger :D
Risking makes the game funnier. Of course I can die, but after all, it's just a game, so it's not worth making a fuss about it :)
Cuz if I'd just finish the game hardcore by doing it in the safest way I can, I wouldn't be satisfied at all.

I'm almost done with my first playthrough of the game (I'm about to confront the UD). After this, I should do more on my hardcore profile, if I have time to play. So far I haven't done much since day 2 in my 'diary.' Just a little update.
Day 3
I woke up in the New Camp. No one wanted to kick me out from my house - that's good :) It's time to go to the Old Mine...
In the Mine I talked to Drake. He warned me not to go anywhere alone. There are some minecrawlers or something. I bought a few things from Santino and went down. In one of the shafts I met Aleph - lazy Digger, who sells information because he doesn't work a hard as the rest. He told me about Glen (sells lockpicks) and some stuff about other shafts. Snipes wanted me to distract Aaron and gave me Aaron's key to his chest. Even Ulbert wasn't too smart. Do all of the guards so 'intelligent'?
I finally met Ian. He gave me the list without any problems. On my way out I met an old Digger named Grimes. He's been here 10 YEARS! NO WAY I'm gonna stick here for that long!
After leaving the Mine I went to... Lares. I showed him the list - the Old Camp will pay for Bloodwyn's 'politeness' :) Then I went to the Old Camp (on my way I discovered a nice hideout behind a small waterfall) and gave Diego the list. Then I found Nek - one of the guards and met Sly, who was looking for him. I decided to take a walk around the Camp for the last time. I'm not gonna stay here. I met a noisy Kyle, Herek - a Digger hired by Bloodwyn - easy prey, gave Dexter that recipe and Jesse, who warned me about Herek ;D. I went to Dusty and helped him join the Swamp Camp. I'm not going to join them - don't want to end up like Baal Netbek (if he IS a Baal).
When I finally went back to the New Camp it was already dark. I asked Lares about joining the band and he agreed. He also told me about some raid on the Old Camp's caravan. Apparently they used my 'list' :) And Gorn was supposed to give me my part of the loot. What the hell? A mercenary working with Rouges? Of course he couldn't 'tell' me about this so I decided not to ask about this any more. Lares wanted me to meet Mordrag and help him. On my way to the tavern I finally remembered myself about that creature destroying the Dam. I quickly took care of it. I never thought I could become so strong in here - not that it will help me to go past the barrier :(. Mordrag wanted me to take care of his assignment. Lazy bastard...
Before going to sleep I asked Cronos if he had some message for the Old Camp's mages - the Fire Mages. He said that now he can give me such a message to deliver. FINALLY I will give them that letter they gave me before I ended up in here. I also asked Wolf about a better armour. He sold be the best armour he had - COOL.
Now I'm going to bed - it was a very busy day.

Your stats look so over the place. I didn't know that this is viable in Gothic I had always specialized, also what dmg do you deal with a bow? I had tried to play an archer once but I recall doing next to nothing dmg with him, and I didn't like the gameplay of it so I stopped, and played with a meele once more.

You're right with the bows... but have you tried using crossbows? That's what I'm doing now, it's really awsome. I can kill 4-5 orc warriors only with the crossbow without 'em reaching me. From what I've noticed, the crossbows are 100% accurate in gothic 1 if you're master. I'M NOT KIDDING, IT REALLY IS 100% ACCURATE!
Oh and be sure you max out your dex stat (100 pts). It's even better if you keep the dex potions you get till you learn your way to 100.

Dexterity does not affect your damage output in Gothic 1,however,only the weapon does

100 dex is only a relevant threshold insofar as that is the max you can learn from teachers, but every point in dexterty increases your accuracy/range no matter whether you're over or under 100.
55 is all you need to use any ranged weapon in the game, anything above only increases accuracy.
And honestly, ranged weapons are pretty terrible in Gothic 1, so I'd not spend any more than that on dex.

I feel badly for not having played Hardcore lately (since my last entry), and I keep saying I will sometime. I'll probably start after I can figure out how to take screenshots from the help section. :)
Well, the day started off fine. I was talking to Daron, but I didn't have enough for a blessing. So I left the town through the east gate, and headed towards the monastery. I was stopped by a soldier called Mika, and didn't have enough to pay for his protection. Oh well.
I could tell things were going badly when I was nearly killed by a lone wolf. I decided to sell some stuff in the city for my blessing. However, I as I was entering the city, the guards stopped me. "Halt!" one of them yelled. I sighed. "What is it?" The guard looked like he was seriously pissed off. "You know very well. We can't have troublemakers in our city."
Moe. The name had haunted me for, oh, almost a whole day. I decided I would try to sneak around the guards like the south gate. "Halt!" Uh-oh, these guards were more aware. No matter, I though, I can still get past them. "One more step..." the guard threatened.
Dang! These guards were smart. I took one step forward, testing his threat. "I warned you!" he yelled, and drew his sword. I stumbled backwards in surprise. "Wait, you didn't warn me!" I yelled. But it was to late, he was mad. The other soldier drew his sword, and I realised I had to run. Seeing as I had to get into the city anyway, I attempted to run between the two blades of death.
One of them dealt me a crippling blow, and I was down. The last thing I knew was one of them saying, "I'll run you through!" and a searing pain in my stomach...
Yeah, I died. Don't ask how the guy was still around to write this down in 1st person. Anyway, I took some screenshots, but I can't figure out how to post them on this site without using the url setting. And to clarify my stats in basics, I was level, er...level...um...well, let's say it was almost 3, shall we? Yes, we shall. :gratz

Just a note, I'll be trying again sometime soon. This time I'll try and remember the "Run!" advice. In hindsight, that's what would have saved me when I died. §weissnich

weeeeeeeeeelll there is one good hint when running from any animal (and npc including orcs):
While you run, all the time turn your mouse left and right just by a little, because Npc's and monsters have fixed attack direction (in more than 90%) which means when they try to hit they can't turn, so you can easily evade all attacks while running(i tested it, nothing got me (wargs, shadowbeast, dragon snapper and snapper, orc elite, bloodhound, goblin skeleton and boars)). it doesen't work on magic, arrows oh and on trolls, care, they got huge aoe attacks

This is my first finished attempt of gothic hardcore gaming. It was an awsome experience and it's been so much fun. I'm glad that the hardcore gaming exists, cuz I started to like it very much :D... but that doesn't mean I'm gonna be a hardcore maniac or something from now on >.>

Go again with bartok, pray for that he will kill that shadowbeast, and then when you fight with that or during the fight hit bartok once or twice so he would attack you while orc attacks him. let orc kill bartok, and you run, when orc stop chasing you, go back to loot bartok, now you got some nice healing potions, long bow (90 or 95 dmg) arrows, 50 gold (u gave him) and possibility to get goblin's berry ;)

If you know where to look, you don't need to risk your life getting an orc weapon... here's how in case you didn't know:
When you leave through the east gate and go north [left] towards the lighthouse, there is a small grove/valley with rats, in which is the entrance to a cave with meatbugs, bandits and an orc statue. Right by the entrance, just inside the cave, there is an orc weapon.
IMO, trying to kill the orc, even with Bartok's help, is too risky for an HC challenge. I've gotten myself killed numerous times in numerous ways trying to get that orc. I usually leave it to the very end of CH1, just before/after joining a guild, as it does yield some nice XP, and by then you stand a better chance against the nasty denizens of the woods.

Yep as hellbily stated, no need to kill that orc, there are many caves in khorinis filled with orc weapons, and you wouldn't be able to kill bartok after 1v1 because he wields Machete (superior range and dmg to you);)
I still can't believe you guys are killing Bartok. :eek: Anyway, what I did to get an orc weapon was lure that one from the cave just right of the east gate to the militia, who killed the orc. I suppose that's fairly dangerous though...

I was too scared to get close to the orc, because with a good hit, he'd kill me in one blow (two if they weren't critical). And I just feel badly killing Bartok after he's helping you hunt.

Haven't you seen something in gothic? Whenever you see honest and good person there, he was screwed (except for guys you helped them, but i screw them too) :p

A hint if you don't trust Bartok to succed in killing the shadowbeast: when he spotted the shadowbeast get far away from them so that the shadowbeast won't see you in case he dies.
Now that I started gothic 2 hardcore game I will surely use this method.
But what am I saying? Perhaps most of you already knew this method :D

Actually you are right, if you don't help him by killing at least 1 wolf and distracting another 1 (so he fights 4 of them (well 2-3 because he would kill some with bow) he will surely die, hell yeah on my attempt he was killed by those bloodflies -_- (but it was my fault, i lured them kinda)
Yeah, Bartok got screwed on the wolves with me the first time too.

Well damn, it's probably the most insane of the gothic series to try in Hardcore. I've beaten gothic 1 a couple of times, and had my nice amount of shots in g2 vanilla but damn... NotR punches way above its weight.
I actually see no real reason to even attempt it but it's temping me, it's the ultimate gothic hardcore challenge.
Here's what I think about it anyway: You need to take it really slowly in the early game. When you made sure what your next move should be, double check, triple check and only then proceed. Especially when you get to around chapter 3-4. One mistake there can easily mean game over, and you wasted so much time into nothing.
There are probably only 2-3 builds worth making in NotR.
1. Mage - really slacking in the first chapters but breezes through the final parts of the game easily. Wave of Ice + Rain of fire = everything dies in seconds
2. Dexterity-based paladin: this might sound like a great idea for early on in the game, but I'm not so sure how well this kind of build does on the Dragon Hunt. I guess it's okay if you know what you're doing :dnuhr:
3. Str based paladin, 1h weap + magic. It works very well against pretty much everything. You've got fast 1h combat, you've got anti-undead spells and you've got healing. What more could you ask for? :D

Dex characters actually do better than any other kind of character in the dragon hunt. Afaik, they're the only kind of characters who can feasibly kill the dragons in chapter 4 without using scrolls.
However, Irdorath can be somewhat problematic because it's hard to actually make good use of your range advantage.
Still, it's probably the easiest way of playing NotR.
3. Str based paladin, 1h weap + magic. It works very well against pretty much everything. You've got fast 1h combat, you've got anti-undead spells and you've got healing. What more could you ask for? :D
Not really all that great because melee combat is generally quite risky and it also lacks late game power because you don't get very good guild weapons as a Paladin.

About my "The hero Khorinis deserves"... I died...
It happened some days ago, I was too lazy to post this... and too angry §burn
Reason of death: orcs... LOTS of orcs, but not just warriors... most of 'em were elites so I'm not that surprised... there were around 20 of 'em LOL.
Stats: around level 50, dex: 140, str: 130 I think
Chapter: 4
I ended this in a stupid way...
Anyway, now I'm thinking of giving gothic 2- The Returning mod a try. But not the hardcore way of course =], from what I hear that mod is imposible w/o a bit of cheating...

As i managed to get myself killed i try again with different game.

Level: 1(will start soon)
Difficulty: Hard,AB and AI enabled.
Challenge: I increase only mana and ancient knowledge and learn only the spells of dominance(Innos).
First i shall just travel around the world and get my ak high enough to learn the learn faster skill
As I already stated, I'm on a trip so that's why I haven't got much of a chance to play. But I'll get there. :)

Well .. i´ll participate in this hardcore challenge parallel to the german hardcore section.
So don´t get mad, if i translate something wrong, cause i don´t play an english version ^^
I´m playing Gothic 2 The Night of the Raven as a Paladin but without spending any learning points besides 5 for the first language in Jharkendar (I won´t read any of the low stonetablets).
I´ll use permanent and temporary bonuses to gain enough dex to use a Rapier and the Master Sword; after finishing Jharkendar in the third Chapter, i will use the Claw of Beliar.
After my first hero got killed with lvl 10 by Cassia, the new nameless dude just reached level 5 by beating Sentenza and is still guildless.
Just donated the maximum of gold to Daron to gain extra life but before that 10 lifepoints to Beliar to gain 500 gold. That also makes one more unused learning point ^^
Edit: Just forgot to mention, that i don´t use any modifications

Well theoretically ... i could do it ... theoretically.
I´m pretty sure that i can at least reach chapter 4 because my hardcore mage (successful but not introduced in the english section) could kill nearly everything in Jharkendar with the Master Sword.
He also could wound Lizard Men and Orcs (not the elites) in close combat so it should be more than possible with the claws extra damage. I´m not sure, if i´ll use Biff to fight the dragons ... i have to fight the Stone Dragon alone, at least (sry ... meant my demon :p)
The demons below the abby can´t pass the door ... so i have no choice but to pound them slowly down with arrows and/or magic. I don´t see any other possibility for me to beat them (demon lord *coughs*) in this narrow space.
And what´s for Irorath .. well .. it depends on how much and which scrolls will be still available.
Well we´ll see $§p4
Edit: Level 20 ... Chapter 3 and "cleaning" Jharkendar :)
No problems so far ... and it is unlikely, that i´ll die until chapter 4.
The Master Sword is a killer and my Paladin armor makes me fighting shadowrunnerns pretty successful.
Well ... with chapter 4 the real challenge begins, but i´m pretty sure, that i can do it to Irdorath.
I still have plenty of scrolls (and even more in later chapters) and i should be able to kill orc warriors and lizard men pretty well with the claw.
We´ll see, what´s with the dragons, but if i decide, that i don´t need demons in Irdorath, they won´t be a big deal.

food, plants, praying and potions, yes ... in overall all permanent bonuses, that i can gain without spending any learning points
I could try it without them next time ... that would make the beginning a lot more difficult
Edit: My Paladin reached lvl 27 and is still alive. I´m now using the Claw and have to say, that fighting orcs is pretty easy.
I have a bug though, that makes my character being able to use the one handed fighter (30%) moves although he only has 17%. My crits can´t hurt any enemies like orcs oder shadowrunners and weaker enemies mostly just die cause of the claws magic damage anyway, so I don´t feel to change (and maybe completely mess up) my character with the charakterhelper. Besides
I don´t think, that cheating would fix this.
I´m still in Chapter 3 and just wiped out the orcs around the castle, all the other orcs, shadowrunners, wargs and weaker monsters in the old world will follow.
On one hand, I want to push my life and the claws level, on the other hand I don´t want to fight an even greater army in Chapter 4 :scared:
Still can´t say anything about the dragons
but right now, the game is pretty easy

It just takes a little longer to beat my enemies but I can´t think of an enemy, that my character can´t kill (Seekers are still pretty risky I guess).
My next challenge definitely won´t be easy at any point
but first, i´ll finish my current game (doesn´t matter in which way :D).

since I got the Claw, it didn´t make any difference anymore.
Well I´ll start a new challenge §$p9:
- Gothic 2 notr without any modifications; and i´ll join the mercs
Challenge:
- no spending of LPs at all, besides the 5 for the first language, of course
- no permanent bonuses that means: no praying, donating, eating plants or foods which increase character stats permanently; no quest rewards doing this
- no temporary bonuses §ugly
that means no rings, belts, amulets and weapons, that give bonuses
- no bugs/exploits like the orcs ram or invincible characters (Lares)
- I have to destroy the claw right after ravens defeat
Allowed:
- all kind of scrolls
- I may abuse any npc besides the invincible ones
- Armor
- 5 LP for the first language
- I may learn mining gold
but not spend any LPs for that
- I may kill the demons in the abbey with arrows and bolts
I don´t have another chance
- I may use potions and food which increases my speed temporarily
- I may use my lifepoints as I like
I may keep them or donate them to beliar for money
- I may use recipes and finish quests, that gives items giving me permanent bonuses, but I´m not allowed to use these items to raise my stats
My only goal is killing the Undead Dragon
I don´t want to reach a high level, I just want to finish the game. I will do everything you can think of to reach my goal
according to the rules, of course.
My first attempt already failed
I just reached lvl 6 and joined the mercs but was killed by an orc warrior in the old world. I wanted to get the medium merc armor cheaper by helping Gorn. Will start my next try very soon :p

I decided to play Gothic 2 NotR hardcore.
Name: Innos' apprentice
Class: Magician of fire -never played it before, therefore, i believe it'll be more interesting journey ;)
Progress: I'm right at enterance of Khorinis, level 2, already gained 500 EXP from Lares and gathered all easy EXP on my way. No neardeath experiences yet.
EDIT: I can't believe I allowed myself to die this way... I was level 4, I went hunting with Bartok so I told him to go further into the woods so I could get some more experience. I thought fight was going into Bartok's favor but Bartok died, I started running but Shadowbeast just jumped on me with killer punch and there I am, feeding the shadowbeast..
I think I'll replay hardcore but I won't go further into the forest... It's just too dangerous unlike when you play Gothic 2 normally. Well, I ike the feeling when you play the game hardcore ;) I never said to myself that forest is too dangerous with Bartok..

I do believe the difficulty had to be normal and above for the hardcore challange.
Of course I would play on hard, as normal is not hardcore - however, when I yesterday got smashed by a jackal (these creatures are pretty malign) near Mora Sul temple on my 22 level, I think it will be pretty nervetaking (and that is the purpose I believe :) ).

Strange, I played G2 NOTR recently on win7 64bit with no problems. If you have a standard PC from 2009, I do not see any reasons that NOTR could not be run on win7..?

That's up to you. It doesn't deduct much from your achievement. What really deducts from it is the "bring up inventory" glitch.

That's a good choice, and not cheating. I didn't use companions though, too much of a hassle. Only from time to time. Oh, and I never completed Gothic 3 HC; I'm not sure if anyone ever has. This game can trip you up real bad at times.

According to previous posts of this thread some have finished G3 HC (there is even a graveyard for unsuccessful players:)).
I must admit, HC mode is quite amusing. Little longer (lots of running or rather escaping) but I enjoy more rewards of quests/slayed monsters.

Sorry, I do not possibly know what you mean:)... I just mentioned there are tables within this thread with results of people who successfully finished Gothic 'X' on HC.
God I am so annoyed. The game crashed three times per hour on average... You make no save and you have to restart whatever you did for a while and it pisses me off. You smack Valentino in the head, try to report to Coragon... WHAM! crash, the PC reboots... I say **** it. I will have to redo something in my system cause last time I played G2N it wasnt so bad.

Save often, despites if the game is hardcore or not. It tends to crash a lot so save a lot.

Yup. There's no limit on how often you save in Hardcore, it's the loading that's restricted... and CTD's or game freezes certainly allow you to re-load the most recent save with a good conscience! :)

I just started new attempt of hardcore challenge- Gothic 2 NotR. Once again, I'm going to try class: Fire mage.

Challenge: Training mana to 29 and then increasing it by 5 still costing 1 LP per mana, isn't allowed.
-Right now I'm level 3, chatting in Khorinis and getting my quests done.
-No neardeath experiences yet.
-I'm planning to get my 1h skill to 30%, learn Animal trophies... Later, I'm going to learn sneaking and lockpicking.
EDIT: Update:
- I'm currently in Khorinis finishing as many quests as possible to get XP.
- I almost reached level 4.
- I've spent 20 LP on one-handed weapons, I'm fighter now.
- My plan is to reach 40% 1-H and around 30 strength, after that I'll start building my magic skills (mana and runes)
- No neardeath experiences yet.
- I will help the thieves and learn lockpicking and sneaking from them.

1 hint... while you run from an animal (any1 from a rat to a dragon snapper(fastest)), run in zic-zac motion... egh, anatomy hit me in the head so my English sucks, it's like this: You run with key W on keyboard, while you run go with your mouse to the left and right... animals have fixed attack direction so if they attack to the right and you turn to the left they will continue to the righ.. in other words, you won't get hit

Don't even get close to a shadowbeast until you at least have the heavy armor of your faction.

When you do face a shadowbeast (most of them can be found in caves),attack them quickly and pin them to the wall (they back off when you attack them).After that,use quick left-right attacks to finish them off while they are still backing off(if your cease your combos,the beast might attack you though).Very risky,but useful to deal with them at lower levels if need be.But courage is...not recommended in HC
This tactic I used on fire deamons in Jarkhendar (which are fire-shadowbeasts). It worked only sometimes because it may happen that the time when you hit him may be exactly the same as the time when he retreats and he won't have to do this again, so he attacks you. They are very cunning :)

Me. Then I beat gothic 2 classic and then NotR with the Heights of Power mod.
Now I wish I could play just notr but sadly I can't manage to make it work on neither my PC nor the laptop. Which is too bad, because it's gonna be fun.
If G2 works then NotR should work also. Say what is wrong.

I decided not to try another time (if e can call it a try..), but when I will play HC again, my first attempt will be with G1, if I fail there, I'll play through it normally and try G2 NotR.. But I'll play it when I'll have more time since I'm kinda busy atm.

This time I will be a mage in the old camp. I am curently at level 5. Just became a shadow. I'll try to focus on magic and less on melee.
This hardcore truely gives another gaming experience. Just yesterday I picked up some goodis from a chest in the ruined tower near Cavalorn's hut. After I crossed the bridge above the canyon to go back to the old camp I turned towards the orc lands to kill the scavanger standing there. After I killed it I turnd back to make shure I wasn't folowed and I almost did in to my pants, there was a snapper storming towards me!!! A snappar at level 3 is more than a feersome opponent. I made a rough escape and barly got awey. The snapper must have saw me on the bridge and becouse the thing stands too close to the bridge down in the canyon it started to attack. That was truely feersome :)
I see you made the same mistakes as all of the HC players and you still have some more of them to discover :D As they say 'don't bite more than you can chew on'. Stay away from shadowbeasts, orcs and cliffs :D.
Perhaps I will start another HC run (G1->2NotR->G3)

Soon I will kill the qeen and collect the eggs so Cor Kallom can make some good omlet for the novices:D
I tried to amass a lots of weapon protection, right now its 70(shadow's armor:40+Rings,amulett:30) It's
easyer to stay alive this way. The mincrawlers do around 1 or 2 points of damage, they can barly scrach me, I just laught in the face of the guard who told me they are dangerous:)
Ahhh soon I will be a Firemage and they will all burn by the power of Inos MUHAHAHAHA! Sorry, overeacted... :D
Before that I killed all the harpys in the mountin fort to get the sword of victory. I know it's not all that powerfull -you can get better weapons by beating up peoples at the new camp like Lares's axe- but it has a good reach, a fair damage and it looks very cool. Thats the one the guy has in the painting in Gomez's throne room. Besides harpys aren't too hard to kill and worth a lots of xp. Plus you should kill the bridge golem becouse when you go there with Lester it reappears and you can get the xp a secund time!

Cause of death: Aacidentaly hit a guard in the old camp with a fireball. I tryed to escape but while I was runing near Mud he talked to me(I avoided him up to now) than Thorus and the other gateguards crosbowed me to death while I was traped in Mud's dialoge. Stupid Mud:mad:

WHAT THE HELL!?!
I was level 14 NORMAL hardcore.
I killed a battalion of orc warriors and scouts outside the capital. I duelled orc Elite warriors with ease. I even withstood a direct fireball hit from a shaman. I slaughtered EVERY SINGLE ORC in the whole camp. EXCEPT one normal SCOUT standing guard at the very edge. I stab him, and the blade goes right through him. No damage. He delights and does his spinning attack thingy. I have around 2/3 health left to begin with. I swing him, somehow I miss. He strikes me hard. It hits. Horrible amoutnts of damage. He spins. Block. block. hit. AAAARGH!!!1

That orc must be a f*cking national hero! I KILLED THE WHOLE ARMY including the shaman and the leaders and one single orc scout takes me down.

Has anyone finished G3 HC on hard level?

Besides harpys aren't too hard to kill and worth a lots of xp.
you can one-shot a harpy with a fire ball. They are exrtemely weak to fire. If I'm not mistaken you could kill 'em with a fire bolt too. But it's best to just nuke the crap out of them with a Storm of Fire.
And I tried to run gothic 2 notr and it failed again. *sigh* guess I'll just never beat it in hc :dnuhr:

When I arrived with Lares I wondered how to get back. I didn't want to go through the portal with the orc as I forgot to get some speed boosts before, which I usually do. I tried to walk back the path I came and suddenly I saw a shadow beast behind me. My attempt to run away was futile.

Why aren't you using the spiked club which you loot from the bandits with Cavalorn? It has a longer reach and deals almost the same amout of damage, maybe a bit less but not noticeable especially in the early stages where you're so vunlerable to pretty much everything.

It must be a bad habit from G1, where weapon damage is more noticable, but I don't think it's that important anyway.

You mean you will play from the start but will not write how you finished the previous quests again or will you load the save game? :> If you play HC then I'm guessing it's the first option :D
What I'm saying is I'll start playing Gothic 1 hardcore. If I die during the game, I'll post on the forum but I'll continue the playthrough since I mainly just wanna play Gothic again.:p
Then after some time you will stop trying not to die. Trust me. Been there - done that.

Is anyone still trying to accomplish the challenge?
I'm currently trying my luck with Gothic 2 (classic) as a melee mercenary. I'm already returning from the Valley of Mines with the letter for Hagen. I was actually pretty lucky and skillful throughout and only had a couple close calls. The first time was while hunting with Bartok. Despite our efforts the orc scout got pretty lucky with damage output and killed him. Fortunately I was relatively well-equipped for the time and managed to take down the mostly unharmed orc on my own. The other close call was with the bandits you kill for Hakon near Akil's farm. The archer among them got me good and one more arrow hit would have meant death. Now I'm doing pretty good, although I seem to be having a problem keeping other people alive, Bilgot was attacked by a dragon snapper and also died as I escorted him to the pass. I think it is pretty tragic how I seem to somehow be bound to lure chaps to their untimely deaths during this playthrough. Stats (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/2401/261616j9n6yrne.jpg).

Hey guys, where can I find a Ball Lightning scroll in Gothic II classic? The reason I'm asking here is that I'm playing the hardcore way so it would be best if I'm pointed towards a scroll that is relatively easy to reach. I'm in chapter 3 by the way.

Guess they might get some in chapter 4 but I assumed there was a way to find one at least from chapter 3, when you are able to learn the spell.

I've been playing Gothic for about 7 yrs now but I've never had as much excitement as the first time I've played NotR hardcore (inspired by these threads). I managed to finish it in the first try and now I want to try Gothic 1 HC. Later I will probably do Notr again.

After being ˝slowly lowered˝ into the Colony and ˝nicely˝ greeted by Bullit and his friends I had a short conversation with Diego telling me what's what and where to go.
Diego took off and I spent some time picking up items and talking to Orry about deliveries and stuff. Afterwards I grabed a weapon and wiped out the beasts above the abandoned mine and all the way down to Ratford and Drax, talked to 'em and made my way to the OC.
I talked to Thorus about being accepted into the OC, he sent me to Diego who told me about the Old Mine quest and the whole ˝brownie points˝thing. So I went to Whistler, did his quest (leveled up here!), took Dexters quest, talked to Mordrag (won't have him take me to the NC just yet), got beaten up by Kharim (dropped my ore before the fight ofc), learned Locpiking LV1 from Fingers becuse I planed to... borrow... Huno's steel..., took Snaf's quest and slept in Diego's bed till the morning.
Y'know... basic stuff that EVERYONE does in the begining, I don't even know why I'm posting the stuff just yet... wasting valuable space like this...(-_-)
I talked to Sly becuse I didn't talk to him the first time and he told me about Nek, went to Fisk again,bought a few lockpicks and took the steel from Huno's chest. After making the crude swords i sold them to Fisk and bought the rest of his lockpicks. Then I decided to talk to baal Parvez who took me to the Swamp Camp. He, of course, took care of all the beasts on the way and once we arrived at the enterance I got a nice 200 exp reward.
After walking through the... gate I talked to Lester and had him take me somewhere where his master can't hear us. He told me how to impress baal Namib hee hee :G. I then went to Fortuno, got some weed and gave it to Joru who told me about impressing baal Cadar and talking to Lester about baal Namib... too late man I've already done that (-_-). My next step is probably going to be talking to baal Namib, and stealing cor Calom's recipe, if only Caine wasn't in the way :mad:.
Wait! Can you take the recipe even if Caine is there or do you have to wait until cor Calom is alone ?

My usual first part aproch is to go the cave near the stone cirkle and get the axe from there. Its a very good weapon to start with. Than I go and get the new camp scraper's outfit and the +5 strenght from the rice farmer guy and use my xp to train in one handed combet near the waterfall. Somehow I realy like the charachters who make it to NOTR like Cord and Lee and all the others:D

1. The worst thing about golems IMO is after they punch you you fly through the air and end up on your back, and by the time you get up they're already waiting for you to punch you yet AGAIN. Like the first nose bleed wasn't enough...
2. I won't spend any LPs on fighting skills STR or DEX
3. I know about Swiney's armor and Horatio's +5 STR tip but the axe in a cave near a stone circle? Did you mean the stone circle where you go with Milten and the cave where in G2 the skeleton shadowbeast is ?
Don't expect anything special. It's just a normal axe whith 29damage. You can also get one from the chest near the smithy of the sect camp. But for some reason I realy like using it in the first few levels:)
As for the golem: I once tried to sneak by it as a meatbug(most enemys ignore the meatbugs). Well, let's just say I ended up as a meatbug ragout:p Othervise the stone golems are very esy to kill with a blunt weapon. If you keep hiting it, it can't even finish it's punch.

So, I decided to lie a bit to baal Namib and i got 250 exp for it, not bad. I made my way to Calom's lab and I took his recipe. Afterwards i went to the smithy and took the steel and the axes (3 of 'em, thanks Feri :D) and, guess what... I made more crude swords (OMG , how unexpected). On my way out I talked to Melvin (Dusty's pal) and returned to the OC.
I gave dexter the recipe right away and talked to Dusty. The two of us bribed the guards (well only me actually) and I took him to the SC. After introducing him to the baal I got 500 exp. Gotta say i din't expect that, only in this quest i must have gotten about 750-1000 exp.
I remember that, on my first playthrough, i spent like 15 minutes looking for the baal who gave me the quest and after I found him Dusty wasn't behind me... I was so freakin' depressed.
So, I returned to the OC and had Mordrag take me to the New Camp. On the way he killed beasts and other boring stuff, the only interesting thing was the digger up in the cave on the cliff and Nek in the molerat cave. Once we reached the NC he gave me a ring and I steped through the gate. I avoided Lefty and talked to Horatio. Then I ''skillfuly'' avoided Lefty again and entered the upper area of the camp.
I gave Lares his ring and leveled up. I spoke to the baal near by and shared out his weed after wich I took a special ˝Prepared Dreamcall˝. I went to the Free Mine and took Swiney's armor, returned to the camp and entered the tavern so I could talk to Samuel about Horatio. So, I wen't back to Horatio, got +5 STR (finally I can use the Axe) and made my way down to the Old Mine.
Once I got there, I did ˝Aaron's chest˝ quest and went down to Ian - he gave me the list. Then I sold a bit of stuff to Viper and returned up there to talk to Ulbert > Aleph > Ulbert again and took the stuff from the chests.
On my way back to the OC I gave Sly Nek's amulet (awww man I just remembered - that could have helped me against Lefty and the others... stupid me...), gave Snaf his soup ingredients and I was on my way back to the Swamp Camp.
On my way back I killed a few ˝inocent˝ animals and leveled up again.Back in the SC I finished the remaining quests like the weed harvest/bloodfly quest, impressing baal Cadar and the other stuff and now I'm ready to go back to the NC.
Can somebody tell me if there is a thread that explains how to upload screenshots and make those [Show]/[Hide] spoiler things? I would like to upload screenshots instead of writing my stats every time.
PS: Am I the only one doing a HC playthrough ?????

Go for it and good luck! And BTW one of the reasons why I started this HC challenge is because of your post on the top of the page. On the first threads there were many players and it was all epic and stuff and now it's just... empty. There's GOTTA BE someone who wants to try again (one... time... isn't... enough :scared: <breathes into a paper bag>)
Sooo anyways, I've made a bit of progress.

OK, back at the NC I talked to Lefty, asked the Rice Lord for water 2 times, gave the water to the workers and got knocked out by Lefty probably half a dozen times just so I could KO him and get the quest done. After that I took the weed from baal Isidro in the tavern, gave him 200 ore, sold him some of the weed to get my ore back, and distributed the rest of it to the rougues and mercs.I gave Lares the 400 ore and the List from the Old Mine so that I could return it to Diego, wich I did.
When I got to the OC I talked to Thorus about Mordrag, went back to Diego and gave him the list. I asked him about my esteem in the camp and he told me to go see Thorus, I was very excited. Thorus told me to see Gomez, but first i took the letter to Milten and chose the mana potion as a reward. THEN I walked into the main building, spoke to Raven who took me to Gomez. I told him that I know everyone except Y'Barion and the other stuff and he accepted me and pointed me to Raven for my first asignment. After he gave me the quest i went to the armory and stole the rusty 2H-ers and the Essence of Strength.
Raven gave me my armor and I was on my way to the SC, I talked to Lester and CH2 started.
Lester told me to talk to Y'Barion, I went to see him and he told me to find the focus.
I went to the cliff and fired a Fireball scroll at Nyras and finished him off with my Axe. After taking the focus from him I was so tempted to just jump off the cliff and land in front of the temple using the L/R falling bug, bit I didn't, I got back the same way as I came. Telling him about Nyras and the focus he told me to see cor Calom and give him the focus. I asked him if I could help so he told me about the secretion and he sent me to the Old Mine. Now I plan to fight my way to the minecrewler queen and, hopefully, not get myself killed.

Shortly after entering the mine I realized that I will not be able to harm a single minecrawler, let alone the queen, so i returned to the three camps to load up on provisions. The most important items are runes: Fireball, Ice Block, Healing and rings from Cronos: +10 DEX and from baal Cadar +10 wpn protection. Also, in the OC i looted the chests in the room on the second floor wich (all 3 of them) contained a +10 HP potion, a speed potion and a +15 wpn protection amulet. With the ring I could use the longbow and kill the crawlers in 4 hits. I also bought all available scrolls of Fireball and Fire Storm.
After all preparations have been made i entered the mine again, talked to Ian about where the nest could be. Naturally, there's always a problem: he said that he's got other problems, a broken masher in particular, and somebody, of course, has to get him a new gearwheel (gee, I haven't a clue who THAT could be). So I went into one of the sideshafts, tested my Longbow and gave Ian the gearwheel from there. In return I got 750 exp and he told me to talk to Ashgan.
Once down there Ashgan asked me to bring him 3 templars, wich I did for 1500 exp I belive, and I opened the gate. The templars took care of most of 'em and I entered the dark cave with a longbow in my hand and an irritating white orb above my head (light scroll).
After shooting my way through the swarm of crawlers I encounteted the minecrawler queen. Lucky for me she couldn't move so I just fire-spelled from a distance till she died for 2000 exp. I picked up the eggs and returned to Ashgan and the others and talked to them. On my way out of the mine a guard told me that Thorus wants to see me.
I returned to the OC and told Thorus ˝I'm interested in the path of magic˝ and he sent me to Coristo. He asked me a few questions and told me to climb the stairs where I'll be accepted. The sacred Oath of Fire, followed by an ear-raping chime, marked the begining of my new life.
I recived my robe, a few gifts from the other mages and I imeadiately learned the first 3 circles of magic and increased my mana to 50.
Time to go back to cor Calom, give him the mandibles, then the eggs and see if I will be able to survive the hoarde of black goblins that stole the almanac from Talas.

Those goblins really have a strong fire resistance. I killed them all though and leveled up, they brought my HP down only to about 50%. I returned to cor Calom, gave him the almanac and leveled up again, slept in one of the huts till midnight and walked down to the temple courtyard to start CH3.
Once CH3 started I talked to cor Angar and he told me to go to the orc cemetery. I returned to the OC and bought some bloodfly scrolls along with the heavy fire robe from Coristo.
The orc hunters didn't give me much problems the only thing I was afraid of is the Orc Warrior. Luckily it worked out.
When I entered the cave system I cleared the orcs in the first room (surprisingly they didn't kill the templar) and I opened the chambers with the gates and looted all of the mummies, most importantly I got another +10 WP ring, some fire storm scrolls and lots of potions.
I helped baal Lukor and found the two halves of the teleport scroll. At the entarnce to the leftmost room I killed the Orc Warrior with 2 fire storm scrolls, and the other scouts with 2 fully charged + 2 non-charged fireballs.
After that I went to the place where the warrior was, Lukor gave me the teleport scroll, I teleported to the other room and used the winch. When baal Lukor found nothing in the caves he blaimed me for it and tried to kill me. I used my Ice Block on him and a few fully charged fireballs and he was dead.
Once I returned to cor Angar I got 2000 exp and reached LV 13 (30 spare LPs). I returned to Coristo to learn circle 4 and bought Fire Storm from Torrez.
Time to go back to cor Angar I suppose.

I went to the NC instead to cor Angar and bought Ball Lightning.
After I got back to cor Angar he told me to find some herbs for Y'Berion, I went to the swamp and took the weed from Viran again to sell it to Cipher in the NC.
In the swamp I killed all swampsharks and bloodflies, collected the herbs and gave them to cor Angar.
Y'Berion died and cor Angar gave me the key to cor Calom's chest to take the Almanac and the Focus. I went to the temple instead and looted the 3 chests.
Those poor slave-girls are still waving those feather-leaf-looking things even now that Y'Berion is dead. I find that to be a little... disturbing...

I took the things from cor Calom's chest and after that I made some money by buying raw steel from the smith in the SC for 200 ore and selling crude swords for 5 more lumps of steel and 50 ore. I probably made about 500 ore this way (yes, ofc it took a while).
After that I went to the OC and cleaned most of the castle including an Essence of Strength in the room opposite of Bullit.
In the NC I sold about 20 stalks of swampweed and sold some weed to Cipher. I've never done this before and I was a little dissapointed when I got no exp for giving it to him (on the other hand I did give him only 50 plants, maybe I needed 100 for some exp).
Then I talked to Cronos, told him about the Sleeper-demon thing for 250 exp and he sent me to Saturas. I talked to Saturas, he gave me the focus searching quest and sent me to Riordian. Riordian gave some potions including Essences of STR and DEX. Now I can finally use the God's Hammer.
I returned to the SC and bought the God's Hammer to use against the Bridge Golem.
Hunting beasts around the forest was a peice of cake, I leveled up and went to the old monastery where Gorn was waiting. I talked to him and he agreed to help me look for the Focus. We entered the storage cave where Gorn whiped out most of the snappers and I leveled up, I helped him out a bit with my God's Hammer. I took the scrolls from the cave and returned with Gorn to the log bridge. We killed the snappers, reached the gate and then I used the Meatbug scrolls from the cave so I could get in and open the gate.
Once we took care of the remaining snappers inside and outside of the cave I drank a speed potion just to be safe and sent 2 fully charged Fire Storms at the Shadowbeast and it was dead. I took the focus and made my way out with Gorn. Outside the young Troll was waiting who, of course, started attacking ME and instead of being bitchslapped all around the yard, I just ran in circles while Gorn killed it for 1000 exp.
After that, Gorn talked to me and I teleported to Saturas to give him the focus.
And fire lizards! They breath death itself!

Actually, it deals magic damage. I noticed one thing, in Notr (prob in others too) you can't kill fire elemental with fire spells and ice elemental with ice spells. In other words - Ice lance kick's fire lizard's and fire Golem's ass while it does almost 0 dmg to ice golem and vice versa, fireball is nice vs Ice golem while it only tickles fire lizard and fire golem (same goes in comparison of fire/ice arrow)
Or, maybe all fire spells deal actually damage as "Dragon fire" while other spells deal Damage as "Magic damage"

From what I understand, in Gothic 2 fire spells cause magic damage, except for Rain of Fire which causes dragonfire damage. But other modifiers apply when elemental creatures defend against magic. For example an Ice Golem will take halved damage from ice spells and double from fire spells (or however it actually works), even though both spells cause magic damage.

Ah, OK. Tnx for explaining how magic works guys. A few years ago I tried to figure out how armor, weapons and strength, critical hits, magic, etc. works but I couldn't figure it out on my own so most of my answers I found on the forums. The developers did a very good job on that IMO.

I took the focus from the troll canyon. The snappers or the goblins were no match for my Fire Storm but the troll was. It took a few mana extracts to kill the troll becuse I wanted to save the Shrink Monster scroll for the Ulu-Mulu troll. Once we killed the troll Diego fixed the winch, more goblins apperred and we killed them. Up by the Focus platform i sent a few Fire Storms at the Harpies and took the Focus. I talked to Diego and teleported back to Saturas to give him the Focus.
Afterwards, I teleported to the SC and made my way to the Mountain Fort. One fully charged Fire Storm and a bloodhound is dead. When I reached the bridge I killed the golem. Luckily in G1 golems don't back up like in G2.
After talking to Lester we fought the Harpies and I took the key from the library [one of the dead harpies fell into a cauldron (cooking pot)].

I climbed the ladder(s), opened the chest and gave Lester his ˝Title Deed˝. He gave me 4 Telekenises scrolls to reach the Focus. I took the Focus, talked to Lester and teleported back to Saturas.

After I slept in my hut I went to the stone circle. Milten was waiting for me and he told me about the curse of the tomb and the ore baron. When I agreed to help him he gave me a Destroy Undead scroll. Once in the tomb I started killing the skeletons, but the AoE from my Fire Storm alerted the Guardian as well. Milten grabbed the attention of the skeletons and I killed the Guardian with Milten's scroll. Then I took the Guardian's key and talisman and helped Milten deal with the skeletons.
After all of them have been killed I gave Milten his talisman and took the Focus and other treasures from the chests. Then I teleported back to Saturas and gave him the Focus.
He sent me to Riordian and Cronos and once I picked up my rewards I triggered CH4 by talking to Saturas about blasting the ore mound. And I bought Ice Wave from Cronos.
Saturas sent me to the fire mages and, well, you all know what happens...
I talked to Milten and Diego and teleported back to Saturas, reported the situation to him and became a water mage. I learned circle 5 and bought the Heavy Water Robe.
I bought Storm Whisper from Scorpio and entered the Orc Lands. The sword is quite good but it can't hurt Razors so I had to kill them with Ice Block/Fire Storm. Then I spent about 5 minutes whacking the Stone golem with my God's Hammer, killed the Ice golem with a fully charged Fire Storm and the Fire golem with 2 Ball Lightnings.
After that I talked to the demon, leveled up, returned to the NC to learn acrobatics and teleported to Xardas. He told me about the exiled Orc Shaman and I paid him a visit. A bit of hit and run with the Clan Warriors wasn't a problem and after I killed them I talked to Ur-Shak. He told me about the Sleeper's temple and a way to get in without being killed for 1000 exp.
I teleported back to Xardas for 1000 exp more, and bought 2 Summon Demon scrolls, then teleported to the NC. Riordian and Saturas talked to me and I slept in my hut 'till the next morning when I'll go to the Free Mine with Gorn.

I can only give you one advice: Use speed potions and hasty herrings before fighting ANY beast that runs faster than you.
For example: the shadowbeast in the pirate camp, fire devils in the mansion of the scholars, ...

Near death experiences: Lots of 'em, all revolving around me being a target practice for the guards.
I talked to Gorn to go to the Free Mine and after a few steps he told me that Wolf wants to speak to me. I paid Wolf a visit to get his Minecrawler armor quest and returned to Gorn. He killed the razors and I entered the Hollow to loot the mercs. I got a lot of potions this way. The strange thing is that almost all of them had 20 arrows in their inventory but almost none of them had a bow...
I Sent a fully charged Fire Storm at Jackal from where Swiney was laying, brought down his HP to 1/2 and while I was preparing a 2nd Fire Storm they nearly X-Bowed me to death. With only about 1/5 of my HP left I ran up to Gorn and healed myself. Then I killed Jackal and his friends and opened the gate to the mine.
Once in the mine I immediately ran into the hole to the left. I spent about 5 minutes dodging bolts and trying to kill the guard that immediately attacks you and in the end Gorn killed him. I had a few close calls here.
Once that was out of the way I talked to Tarrok, found and gave him his medicine and asked him to make me an Ulu-Mulu. He told me to get him the trophies. Then I collected the crawler plates for Wolf and spent 15 more minutes killing the guards. I had a few more near-death experiences and I leveled up. Once I was done with everything I returned to Gorn and left the mine.
I teleported to the NC to sleep till the morning. After a good rest I hunted down the shadowbeast and troll near the Old Mine. I killed the shadowbeast with 2 fully charged Fire Storms and took the horn, but for the troll I summoned a demon to distract him so I could use a Shrink Monster scroll. The demon killed him then in 1 hit and I took His tusks.
Then I teleported to the SC to kill a Swampshark and take it's teeth (amazingly Shrat was still alive) and then to Xardas. I used my second Demon scroll to distract the Fire Lizards and kill one in 5 hits with my Storm Whisper. I took it's tongue and teleported to the NC so I could give them to Tarrok, but before that I increased my mana to 90 with Cronos.

As I was leaving the mine with my Ulu-Mulu Gorn talked to me and CH5 started. I teleported to the NC to sell some loot and I bought from Cronos an Amulet od Ore Skin and other things as well as a Ring of Strength because I could not wield the Ulu-Mulu with only 27-28 STR.
After all that was done I went hunting. I killed everything around the stone circle, in the small forest near the OC, and the large forest near the SC, Nyras' Focus stone and Fog tower. I got a lot of exp and leveled up once (animals give waaaay too much exp in G1).
When I finished my little extermination I decided to see what's in the temple. I talked to Ur-Shak standing outside the Orc Town and asked him how to get into the temple. He told me to look for shaman magic in the dwelling caves. I entered the Orc Town, found the teleport scroll and teleported behind the portcullis. Once there I Used telekenises to reach the statuette so I could get in again later and entered the temple.
QUESTION: In the temple of the Sleeper there is a trap with switches that look like stones. When you use any one of them, some platforms arise that lead to one of the undead priests. The problem is that one of them, when used, makes the ceiling drop onto my head and kill me. When looking at the entrance, which one should I use, the one on the left or on the right?

I didn't get very far from the entrance. I cleared all of the skeletons and used the first 3 switches in the left room to open the portcullises and I decided to take the minecrawler tunnel. Everything went fine until the undead orc shaman killed me.
Final stats aren't much different from the last screenshot. I was 1 level higher = 10 more LPs and 12 more HPs.
I don't know his name but you can see who it is. I couldn't move because of his Ball Lightning stun-effect.

Always summon skeletons before encountering the priests. They can kill them on their own and they distract them so you're not permanently stunned.

Alright. I suddenly appeared in Xardas' tower and:

˝I feel like I spent three weeks lying under a load of rocks.˝

WHAAAAT???? I was NOT lying under rocks, I was killed by an undead orc priest... and a bug which caused me to be stunned from the second shot onwards, but still...
Now I feel really bad for not finishing G1 HC, it all seams so fake now.
<sigh> Well, anyway, I finished the conversation and took everything from Xardas' tower and read every book. I got 50 exp for the stone tablet. I also left the key from upstairs in the chest because keys quickly clutter the inventory.
When I got out I thought: ˝What a nice day... too bad it's all FAKE.˝ and grabbed the plants around the tower and scrolls and potion behind the tower. Then I attacked the sheep and the wolf and killed them... but it didn't have any pleasure. I guess I'll be able to get over it during the course of time (I thought I would anyway).
I made my way down into the valley, talked to Lester and all but then I realized how foolish I was (only fists, yeah right, maybe someone else but not me)... a wolf killed me (I'm not writing this in large colored font because I was below LV15) and then Lester killed the wolf. Well I could have run away but I got stuck in a tree and that was my end.
And then nothing felt fake, everything was so painfully real: the trees, the sunshine, me and wolf lying on the ground, ... Lester's underwear...:D (see picture)

He said: ˝You're that guy who was constantly begging arrows from me in the Valley of Mines˝ but I never even talked to him. I dropped my gold and talked to the bandit, exhausting all conversation options. After talking to him I told him that Cavalorn is alive, he ran off and I visited Maleth to get the quest ˝Bandits at Lobart's Farm˝. Then I returned to the bandit and told him that i was sent by the farmers. He walked up close to the hideout and I ran to Cavalorn to ˝mix it up˝with the bandits. He killed the bandit and I looted a sword from him. Then we walked into the cave and he killed the other two.
After looting the bandits Cavalorn told me to take a message to Vatras. I took everything from the chest and returned to Lobart's farm. I did all the quests there, took the clothes (and everything else ˝without asking˝) from the chest and gave them to Greg (leveled up again). I didn't take the city pass from Canthar.
I sneaked into the City of Khorinis and talked to Lares for 500 exp. Then I returned to the gate and used the excuse that I was bringing herbs for Constantino.
I got in and Lothar talked to me. That went on for a good 5-6 minutes and... that's it so far.
I'm adding a Challenge: When I become a mage (if I ever become one) no weapons (except for the bridge on Irdorath). I guess I'll also edit my intro post to add it there as well.

I think its time to start a good old gothic 1 hardcore challenge$§p4
Well then:
Feri's Hardcore Templar again!
First I moded my character a bit. Now hi is bald and have face and body tatoos so he will fit in the sect camp just right:) He now have the face of Gor Hanis (one of the gladiators of the arena in the old camp) and I also aded a tattoo to his forehead (the one from the novice Nyras). He walks like a fire mage(like all the templars do). I will post some pictures later on.
So far I only cleard the path and plato near the exchange place. I befriended the two guys from the new camp and while having a beer I got some huntig advices. I'm on my way to the old. I will go to the new camp with Mordrag.(to complite the quest for Thorus and to learn some fighting skills from Cord)

Day 3: I was level 27. I managed to get trought most of the game. The first thing I've done is talk to Rupert about reaching the upper quarters and a job. Then I talked to Regis and to Mateo. I got his quest, took Bospers quest and had him teach me to skin animals. After that I talked to Thorben about paladins, Elvrich and Gritta and took his quest, he sent me to Gritta saying that she doesn't have any gold. I agreed to pay for her even though I know that she's got exactly 100 GP because in CH3 (if I get there) i'll get 150 exp for talking to her (BEFORE freeing Bennet). I paid Mateo, Talked to Harad and to Constantino and took their quests.
Then I visited Vatras. I gave him Cavalorns letter and asked him to join the ring. I took the Weapons Dealer quest also. I got his blessing and made my way to Coragon. I talked to him,he complained how somebody stole from him. I really felt compassionate... and then I took his gold while he wasn't looking (which is always).
However I remembered that I have to donate some gold for Daron for Thorbens quest and I returned to the chest and left only 49 gold on me. Then I went to Daron and he took only 10 GP. When I was done with that I took back my gold from Coragons chest and went to the marketplace. I talked to Hakon about Joe and leveled up. Then I spent a little more time talking to the others (you know how all of that works). Canhar initiated a talk with me and told me to frame Sarah. There is one useful "bug" in Gothic 1 (I know that bug abusing isn't allowed, but this isn't a game ruin, it just saves your ass from dying of falling) -> While you fall keep pressing "D" and "A" button (or whatever you put for "strafe left/right") and your hero won't die when he falls ;)

I wouldn't say so. More like using your knowledge of the game world, regardless of whether this means of accessing it was intended by the PB's or not.

I sneaked behind the store and stole everything from the chests and got out the same way (to keep it real - imagine a civilian just running out of a military warehouse and not being stopped by a guard). Talking to Zuris I found out that Constantino has several places where he gathers plants. I'll go there later. It was getting late so I decided to take a nap.
The next morning I told Andre about Canthar and Sarah (I also asked him about a fast way into the militia) and went to Rengaru to take his gold gold (well... Jora's gold actually). I decided to let him go. A little bit of parkour turned out to be interesting because I got some neat stuff (the first time I installed NotR i was very surprised because I first played Gothic 2 classic for a few times before I got Notr. In G2 classic the things on the harbor rooftops weren't there).
When I was done with running and jumping I went to Constantino to make a Honey tobacco with the honey found on the tavern roof.

A quite disturbing experiment... almost as disturbing as being killed by a snapper and having your genitals eaten... tends to happen sometimes.
I gave the tobacco to Abujin and the gold to Jora and head out of the city to find myself some herbs and an orc axe.
Outside of the city wasn't too dangerous. I picked up all of the plants first before visiting the bandit cave. The rats were simple to separate and kill one by one and I shot the molerats from the fallen tree. I took the orc axe from the cave and returned to Mika.
I decided that I'll go and take the King's sorrel nearby. The first two wolves weren't a problem but the third (closest to the sorrel) brought my HP to 50 %. I returned to Vatras to heal me and went back to pick up the sorrel.
Seeing as I was already there I decided to kill the wolf near the bridge. That wasn't a problem ( 4 skins down, only 2 left). I went up the stairs to force Ehnim and Egil into a fight and pick up the Goblin berries behind the tree.
With all of that done I returned to the city. I gave Constantino his plants ( he doesn't even pay for them. That's probably like 1500 gold pieces lost!!!!!) and got his approval. I gave Harad the orc axe (lol the guy thinks I killed an orc :D) and asked for his approval (leveled up), went to Thorben and got his blessing and approval... AND THEN I FORGOT TO SAVE AGAIN!!!!!
That's it consider me DEAD.
I save my game as often as possible since G2 NotR tends to crush (and G1 but much less often).
OK, it's time to save Myrtana from those evil orcs. But who is gonna do it? I don't know. All I know is that I had a fight with some stupid militia and tomorrow they are going to throw me to the Colony. I was so happy and now I'm going to die in this crappy place. Or will I?
Tomorrow I'm starting my HC challenge :D

It didn't crash. I play the game for as long as I want, when I'm done I take a screenshot and exit the game without saving... stupid §wall.
As you can see I'm still pretty upset about this subject...

I'm starting again.
EDIT: This is going to be a G1 and NotR marathon. So I will play both games one after the other. If I die in NotR Gothic 1 won't count as being completed. In order to finish the challenge I must finish both games without dieing.

Day 1
I shouldn't have done that... and there's no going back now, no way to escape nor to make a deal. All I can do is to keep fighting for my life and hope that the barrier will fall some day.
Look at that bastard - the judge, he acts in the name of justice and he's got more blood on his hands and else's money in his pockets than any man under the barrier. If I could, I would take his silly hat and force him to eat it.

So, I went to the left to pick up the stuff that was lying around and then I went to Orry.
Awww man, If these guys are the same as Bullit and his friends I'm staying well away from the Old Camp.

Well it seems that the OC isn't so bad after all.
I killed all the meatbugs and took anything that isn't nailed down along with the pickaxe.
Maybe there's something more up there. Ah a blade... and a beast. Lets see...
I took the sword and killed the molerat.
They don't seem to be too dangerous.
I went back across the bridge and jumped up to clear the rest of the area. Going down I killed the rest of the beasts and saw the Old Camp and I thought: ˝Innos be with me, it seems to be so safe inside. That is where I must go and that is where I belong.˝ until I got close to Ratford and Drax.
Hmm, these guys don't look like they are from the Old Camp, they could hurt me... on the other hand the same thing could happen in the Old Camp. Why not, let's talk to the guys.
I've spoken to the hunters and gave Drax a beer.
So far the men from the New Camp seem to be better than the guards. Well they must have joined the New Camp for a reason.
On my way to the bridge I killed the scavengers, but the hunters' arrows were flying all around me and I thought: Hey be careful you could have killed ME!
And that gave me an idea: They can kill their enemies from afar and don't have to worry about getting a scratch... I see... I am going to be an archer. Maybe that way I will be able to stay alive until the barrier falls... if it ever falls.
I crossed the bridge without talking to the guards.
I'm not even going to talk to them. I don't want to be somebody's punching bag again.
I reached the gate.
Well, this place is safer than being outside amongst the animals. I can only hope that the TRUE animals(read: Bullit and those like him) aren't IN THERE... well, here I come...

I've been having connectivity issues so this post is going to be VERY long.
I turned around and killed the two young scavengers and then made my way into the Old Camp. Once inside I talked to Grim and Diego. Diego told me about the other two camps.
Hmm, I don't quite believe that the Sect Camp can lead me to freedom, but the escape plan of the New Camp seems quite promising. I just want to get out of here.
I talked to Thorus, he gave me a test of his own and sent me back to Diego.
I took Diego's test and most of the quests from the other shadows. I leveled up when I finished Whistler's quest and increased my STR to 20.
Heavily beaten by Kharim I laid down in Diego's bed thinking of all I have learned during the day.
I just need to join a camp and things will be better. But which camp to join ? The Old Camp seems to be full of people in a really bad mood and the whole Sect Camp is probably brainwashed. The magic of their Gurus scares me, the power to control things with their mind. The only camp that seems safe is the New Camp... or it could be the worst.
I will simply have to visit the other two camps and make a decision.
Day 2
A new day and nothing has changed. The barrier is still there at least.
I went to Huno and opened his chest (it feels different when you know the combination), I took the steel and made myself a few swords.
I spoke Guy and he told me about life in the camps and their differences and gave me a hut.
Somehow I've got the impression that he doesn't know much about the other two camps. At least Diego can now sleep in his own bed.
I returned to the marketplace and sold my swords for ore and lockpicks and told baal Parvez to take me to the SC.
All right, let's hope that they won't brainwash me like the rest of their followers.
He took me to the entrance and I leveled up. I returned to Scatty to learn 1H fighting and I returned to the Swamp Camp. I took the ˝New souls for the Brotherhood˝ quest, gave Joru my daily ration, talked to Lester about baal Namib and forced Harlok to do the weed mashing from now on. I took Balor's weed and asked him about Cipher. When I reached Viran a bloodfly nearly killed me.
I must get myself a bow fast. But what I should do NOW is to get some sleep.
Heavily injured and scared for my life I slept in one of the huts till the next morning.
Day 3
I killed the rest of Viran's bloodfies and he gave me 50 plants of swampweed. I also leveled up here. I reported to baal Orun, but I'm not going to give the weed to cor Calom, I'll give them to Cipher.
If I give the weed to that Cipher guy Balor mentioned I could become a rouge more easily.
I took cor Calom's recipe and on my way out I lied a little bit to baal Namib.
Returning to the OC I took Nek's amulet and gave Snaf his ragout ingredients.
˝So THAT'S where you've been hiding, huh Nek ?˝
˝I'll take this, It could be useful.˝
Now, let's see what the New Camp looks like.

He took me to the NC and I leveled up. Once there he gave me the ring and I got in. I avoided Lefty and went to the Free mine to get my armor. After obtaining the armor I went to the bar. I thought that Cipher would buy the 100 swampweed but he didn't. I shared out baal Kagan's weed and took the Prepared Dreamcall.
I returned to Dusty and took him to the Swamp Camp. Then I gave cor Calom the weed and baal Tyon the Dreamcall. On my way back I found out that Dusty had been following me and well... he fell to his death.

Damn fool. He would have at least stayed alive in the Old Camp, he's dead and it's my fault. It was not my intention...

Ah well, at least I got 500 exp for ˝delivering˝ him to baal Tondral.
Telling baal Orun that I delivered the weed got me 250 exp (level up) and a Sleep scroll which I used on one of baal Cadar's novices and I got 250 exp more.
I slept till the next morning and with that I'm done with the Sect camp I believe.
Day 4
Goodbye peaceful loonies, may the Sleeper be with you. I hope never to see you again... retards.
I went to the New Camp. I stopped by Cavalorn to buy some arrows and killed some beasts on the way, however they beat me up quite good so i decided to go to the cave of the New Camp and sleep in Shrike's hut till the morning.
Two camps down, one to go. Tomorrow I'll take a better look at this camp.
Day 5
I took baal Isidro's weed and sold it - gave the gold to Lares.
I went to Jerimiah and he told me about Horatio. When I got close to Lefty he Forced me to give water to the peasants. I gave them the water, Horatio gave me the +5 STR bonus.
Lefty talked to me again and I tried to beat him on the first try but the Rice Lord got involved, as always, and they knocked me out.
I thought that these guys would be friendlier than the ones in the Old Camp but it seems they're not. OK, I need a different plan. Lets see... What if I try to attack him very fast but not that hard.
I used the quick ˝W + LBM˝ attack continuously and he was down (level up). I ran away from the Rice Lord, he stopped chasing me rather quick and I ran to Lefty to loot him. I got his nice Longbow.
Finally, a good bow. I'll have someone teach me to use it, get more arrows and I'm all set.
I got 300 exp for talking to Lefty again and I went to Wolf and learned both levels of Bow (30 LP in total).
As I was very Tired I decided to take a good nap and woke up the next morning.
Day 6
Hmm, I'll hang around the New Camp for a little while and go get the List from Ian. Diego said that the New Camp must not get that list. If I bring Lares the List he will surely be happy and let me join the rouges, or I could stay true to the Old Camp and give Diego the List and become a shadow. I'll think about that when I have the list.
I talked to a few mercenaries kicked Shrike out of MY hut and went to the Old Mine.
Once in the mine I cleaned Aarons chest and the storeroom.
I really am starting to feel like a rouge, and the guards... I'm getting the impression that most of them are just idiots.
I took the list from Ian and thought: ˝All right. I have the List now I either give it to Diego or to Lares. Lets see... Moronic Guards vs. Sneaky and Cunning Rouges, Wealth and Power vs. Freedom, Old Camp vs. New Camp. I have decided... I am joining the New Camp˝.
With that decision I got out of the mine and ran towards the NC. Roscoe stopped me and said that Diego would die laughing if he knew this. Seeing as Diego won't get mad I walked in. I spoke to Lares and gave him the list. He added things to the list and gave it to me to give to Diego. I asked him to join his gang and he approved.
Finally I belong to the New Camp.

Time for a double post it seems :gratz.
I walked down to Cronos and had him give me the messenger's amulet and a letter to the Firemages.
At last, I can deliver the message I got at the exchange place.
I went to the OC, gave Diego the List, leveled up and increased DEX by 10. I went to Thorus and he let me through the gate. Milten took my messages and i took the potion from Torrez.
I returned to the NC and reported to Cronos. He gave me 200 ore.
This messenger job seems to be very rewarding.
Wolf sold me the heavy bandit armor and I sold him the digger's trousers and light rouge armor as well as a bunch of other junk.
It's getting late. I should sleep till the next morning and do a little hunting trip around the Colony. I will see how good a fighter I am.
Day 7 - Extermination
*yawn* This has been a tiresome day. The whole Colony was just one big slaughterhouse. I've killed all beasts that I could. I have proven myself to be a good archer, I just need a better bow, and as for my melee skills - my Bloodfly Sting has served me well but the only thing I could have done against Lurkers was to shoot them, my mace can not even hurt them much.
I gained 3 levels and spent all my LPs on DEX. After that I went to the Swamp Camp and Lester triggered Chapter 2. I slept till the next morning.
Day 8
I went to Y'Berion and he sent me to take the focus from the cliff. I went to the smithy took the steel and weapons from the chest and started work. After that I went to the cliff.
That novice, I see a madman in his gaze. I don't even want to go near him. Bow, my friend, don't fail me now... WHAT ? Three arrows and he's dead :eek: ? Well, suits me :D.
I took the focus and brought it to Y'Berion, got a reward from him, passed the Focus to cor Calom and got a reward from him as well. Cor Calom sent me to the Old Mine, but first I traded some of my crude swords for ore and arrows in the OC and NC. With all of that done I headed for the Old Mine.
Once in the mine I talked to Ian, gave him his gearwheel, went to Ashgan, brought him the templars and leveled up.
I opened the shaft, the crawlers appeared and the 5 of us took care of them. I forced my way to the nest killing the crawlers with a few close calls. When I finally reached the nest... the Queen wasn't there... WTF ???
Thoroughly baffled I picked up the eggs, spoke to Ashgan, the templars and Ian and got out of the mine.
I went to the New Camp, Jarvis stopped me and told me that Lee would be willing to take me on as a merc. I went to my hut and slept till the next morning.
Is Lee really going to accept me ? I can only hope.
Day 9
I went to Lee and asked him to become a mercenary. He asked me why I have joined the NC.
Because I am just like the rest of you. I want freedom.
˝Because I wanted freedom from the very beginning˝.
And that's it.
I am a mercenary. Strange, I feel invincible now.
I increased my DEX to 70 with Lares and went to the SC, I gave the eggs to cor Calom and took the weapon as a reward.
Hm, maybe I could have chosen something better.
He sent me to Talas ,but I didn't want to waste time so I went to the cave myself.
It wasn't dangerous I just used the ˝Hit and Run˝ strategy, I gained a level. I took the Almanac and returned to cor Calom.
Cor Calom told me to wait till nighttime, but I went on a hunting trip instead, gained another level, went to the OC to Diego to increase my DEX to 90 and slept in his bed.
*yawn* Tomorrow I'll go to Mordrag or Lares or whoever and report. Good night Colony.

Day 10
I went on a little hunting trip again and wiped out the rest of the harmless beasts in the Colony. I returned to the SC and slept in one of the huts until midnight.
Day 11
Man, It's dark. Let me just see this failure and go back to bed. Damn loonies.
I went to the temple courtyard and the invocation started.
Woah! This worked. Wait... what's wrong with Y'Berion ? I'll talk to cor Angar.
Cor Angar told me to go to the Orc Cemetery. I slept till the morning and went to get myself a new bow and better armor. Maybe even a better melee weapon.
I bought a Wolfshredder from Cavalorn, a few more arrows, a ring of ore skin from baal Cadar and Medium Mercenary Armor.
The Orc Cemetery wasn't a problem - ˝Hit and Run˝.
This place is scaring me, it stinks of death.
Once I was done I went to the SC and took a nap.
Day 12
I went to Darrion to trade all my junk I've collected in the cemetery for God's Hammer.
I reported to cor Angar. He said that the Sleeper couldn't order baal Lukor to kill me.
You wouldn't think so if you were in my shoes. First Nyras wanted to kill me, then the Sleeper led your warriors into their death and baal Lukor tried to kill me as well. I'd say he's a really pissed of god with a personal grudge against me.
I went to the swamp to get the plants. While I was out Y'Berion awoke and said that the Sleeper is an archdemon.
See, see, SEE, what did I tell you, he's a demon, yes, yes, I was right, I was... damn it I wish that I wasn't.
I improved my DEX with Lares to 100, went to Saturas, leveled up, took the potions and drank the perm. ones and increased my STR by 10.
Following the way right of the entrance to the NC I met a pack of snappers. They weren't a problem. I tried my luck with the bloodhound and I was very surprised. He was quite weak to arrows.
I met with Milten we killed the skeletons and the Guardian. No problems whatsoever.
I took the focus, gave Milten the talisman and teleported to Saturas.
I gave Saturas the focus and leveled up, but didn't spend the LPs on anything.
Next focus tomorrow. I'm taking a rest.
Day 13
I visited the mountain fort. I drank a speed potion and had the golem run after me about half way to the cliff and I turned around and ran past him across the bridge.
Me and Lester took out the harpies (my bow proved to be very useful). I took the key, grabbed the document and gave it to Lester. He gave me some scrolls and that's it.
I took the focus, teleported to Saturas and leveled up.
The focus in the troll canyon wasn't a problem either except that we couldn't do anything to the troll, therefore I had to shrink him. We killed the troll, Diego fixed the winch, I took the focus, spoke to Diego again and teleported back to Saturas. Giving him the focus I leveled up.
Day 14
Today I'm getting the last focus. I wonder where Gorn is.
I went to the ruined monastery and took the focus from there (you know how this works) and during one of the fights I leveled up. I tlelported back to Saturas and gave him the focus.
I took my reward from Riordian and learned 2H fighting LV1.
Cronos gave me 1000 ore and I returned to Saturas to trigger Chapter 4.
At the dam Lee sold me the Heavy Merc Armor and I bought the Horn bow and Berserker's Word.
I talked to Milten and Diego and killed the guards at both gates.
You killed the mages ??? You've gone too far this time! You'll pay the price for this IN BLOOD !!!
I teleported back to Saturas and he sent me to Xardas. I bought a couple Ball Lightning scrolls and headed towards Xardas.
OK, let's hope that I'll survive long enough to see his tower.
Day 15
I transformed myself into a bloodfly and flew to the golems. I killed them and talked to the demon. He gave me a rune and I teleported to Xardas. I talked to him, went to Ur-Shak, got back and teleported to the NC.
Once there I went to Gorn, then to Wolf, then to Gorn again and we went to the Free Mine. I looted all the bodies and chests and opened the gate avoiding the guards. I slept in the hut.
All I have to do is wait for Gorn to come down.
Day 16
As I woke up I saw Gorn fighting the guards.
I got in and immediatley ran down to the left. I killed everything in the mine except for Tarrok and Gorn. The only near-death experience was at the beginning.
Once I had had a conversation with Tarrok and brought him his medicine I killed the rest of the guards and crawlers and made my way out.
I teleported to the NC, talked to Lee, learned 2H LV2 due to a couple level ups, gave Wolf his crawler plates and went to sleep.
Day 17
I took all the trophies (no problem) and gave them to Tarrok. He gave me an Ulu-Mulu and I got out.
Man, I hope this thing will work out.
Gorn triggered Chapter 5 and I teleported to the NC.
I took the Crawler armor, bought some scrolls and protection rings, bought the Bow of Death from Wolf and a Demon blade from Scorpio and went to sleep.
Tomorrow I go into the temple. I don't even want to know what horrors await me there but I will find out.

Don't worry. Read post #244 again. Just because I finished the first part of my challenge doesn't mean that I'll be in the Hall of Fame. I still have to finish NotR so to the guy who opens the next HC thread: DO NOT LIST ME IN THE HALL OF FAME UNTIL I FINISH NotR !
Day 18
I transformed myself into a bloodfly and went to the Orc Town. I took the scroll and teleported myself inside.
Ohhh, shiny.
I used telekinesis to reach the figurine and went inside.
The skeletons can hurt me quite a lot but I always run if I see that I'm taking more damage than I should.
All in all The only real challenge were the templars who only took damage with critical bow hits. Nothing a little hit and run can't fix.
@ Blubbler: If you're reading this, THANK YOU. Your skeleton tip really helped me. I almost didn't even have to fight the priests they wiped them out on their own.
Once I reached the fifth shaman I took a speed potion attacked him and ran off.
I cleared the rest of the temple as well and got out.
It's daytime. I must have been in there for at least one day.
Day 19
I wonder what Xardas will think of this weapon.
I teleported to Xardas and he sent mt to his tower. Once there, I killed all the skeletons and zombies (man, can they hit) and looted the tower.
Woah! Nice armor. It looks sort of silly though...
I returned to Xardas, he gave me the formula and I asked Milten in the NC to help me. He went down to the ore mound.
I can't even stand anymore, I'm dead on my feet. I'll take a nap.
Day 20
I went to the ore mound and took it's powers. Chapter 6 started and I teleported to Xardas.
I transformed into a bloodfly and went to the Orc Town. Because I took the Figurine from the column I opened the gate and entered the temple.
I entered the temple and went to the last undead shaman. I killed him, killed the templars and opened the gate.
Xardas appeared. I talked to him and he fell unconscious.
I see, you used all your powers to get here. Take a rest old man.
I looted the mummies and got down to the Hall of the Sleeper.
Maaaan, that's one big, ugly minecrawler.
I killed cor Calom and one of the novices. I waited for the Sleeper to fire his fireball, stabbed the heart and ran behind one of the columns to kill the demon.
The same with the other hearts.
The last heart... Sleeper it's bedtime again...
*stabs the heart, movie plays*
Finaly, it's over.
Woah! An earthquake. Better run.
