Important: The application has to be installed in the System folder of Gothic 2!

Nun würden wir uns freuen, wenn uns jemand Gesellschaft leisten will. Anders als auf vielen Public-Servern geht es nicht nur ums Kämpfen, wir schauen was alles mit dem MP derzeit möglich ist und bei genügend Personen könnte man vielleicht ein RP starten.

also habe mal ein vorschlag!

ein roleplay/reallife!

das heißt!

es gibt verschiedene fraktionen: Miliz, Magier, Söldner, Bandit etc.

in wirklichkeit gibt es einen User der Chef einer Fraktion ist!
Andere User die joinen, müssen in der Welt zurecht kommen und müssen ihr Gold verdienen um bessere Waffen und Rüstungen zu bekommen! Und um stärker zu werden! Nun am besten man bewirbt sich in irgendeinem Forum für eine Fraktion, wird man aufgenommen muss man sich unter Beweis stellen, dass man der bspw. Miliz beitreten will und bekommt Missionen: z.B.: Töte 7 Warge oder Besorge ein Artefakt oder so! Wenn man das vetrauen gewonnen hat, kann der User vom Milizchef, der auch ein User ist, ihn aufnehmen! Wenn man in der Miliz ist verdient man dann stündlich , wenn man online ist, so 30-100 Gold, je nach Rang, denn man kann in der Miliz aufsteigen! Es gibt verschiedene Ränge, je höher der Rang, desto größer das Gehalt und man kann nur aufsteigen, wenn man den Milizchef überzeugt und der jemanden einen Rang höher gibt!
Desweiteren kann man zu dritt dann aufbrechen und dann Söldner umhauen oder so! Für jeden Söldner oder Tier gibt es auch Gold! Die Söldner, die auch normale User sind und sterben müssen dann bspw. für 5 minuten in den Himmel, danach Respawnen sie wieder!

Das wäre jetzt eine Idee von mir für einen Roleplay/Reallife! Ist ohne wirkliche Story, aber wäre auch mal eine alternative! Es ist sozusagen ein Spiel wo man einfach seinen Status aufbessern muss und um es zu etwas zu bringen!
Vielleicht die Lager aus Gothic I im Minental nachspielen?

Ok I've played again, I joined a server with about 10-15 users online. Everyone was on Khorinis port slaughtering each other :p (even though I've also played in a Jharkendar server - and I assume there's a VoM too). It would be great to add a couple of creeps.

Anyway, I found some secret animations.

Press P to pee, O to belly dance, I to pray, J to sit, and L to play drums or smth like that. There are a couple of more animations.

Once you start the game you choose your nickname, your guild and then you choose a server (there are about 3-4). I'm not really sure whether you can change server without restarting the game.

I tried it out but ether every server laggs or it takes forever for it to load after you've joined a server. I tried waiting some time but I saw no improvements in the performance, so I couldn't play it.

hey Lazor ,i was Sky :D:D i accidentaly joined VOM server and had some fun too there at the castle .

When u get to select class press A or D to switch classes and for server i think the arrows are used.

@MageMaster try on switching the server ,there are some good servers too ! Too bad there`s no action ...they should spawn some mobs and 1 dragon just for fun :-)

I was on Gothic Tale server, my name is Carnage, and i meet some guys :P i was the organizator of a fighting tournament on the ship in Khorinhis, its really cool you can play gothic togheter, you can explore the hole world with others and thats awsome :).

Apparently it requires 100 times more that the normal requirements of the game, it's better if the view distance is at "F1" but it still laggs, and I think it makes my video card stop working, after I quited the game via the task manege, a message box appeared saying something about the video drive(or something like that) has reactivated.

And maybe someone should make a server for us here at WoG, and make it private. Maybe it would be too much if there is a server hosted by the same host as WoG is, but if possible, I think it will be neat.
Now if only I found a way to better my performance, and can some one please translate what it says in the option, in video apart from view distance the is something else, what is that something else? It says "peiny ekran" now that I actually look at it, I think it means "full screen".

oh... and also, what exactly does it say in the gothic files for the monster placing. you know, like what would it say if there is a scavenger in xardas' tower? I'm guessing that if you write whatever it says for the monsters and NPCs, they will appear in the server.

Finally I found out that I need ports 4174 & 4173 opened for this to work. I also made my own server with the small island mesh as seen in the Stranded mod:

Everyone can install such small levels (which I think are more suitable for a small number of players than G2's default levels).

What I did: copied the stranded.mod to G2\Data folder, renamed its extension to vdf, and in server's config: map INSEL.ZEN with pos 0 0 0

Too bad the game lags and freezes so dam much, but I had so much fun doing some PvP, it was great.

Once the lag gets dealt with I'm gonna play this all the time. I've always wanted to go against other players in gothic 2.

Niiiiceeee, I have no lag on my laptop :D
I got to play the game more and I've gotta say I'm deeply impressed. For now it seems kinna basic, having only 3 classes to choose from and fighting in such a giant world? But it's awesome never the less.
What I suggest/would love to see:
-Balance out the classes some more, the merc is damn hard to fight against if you are guildless or Militia. The 2h sword has the longest range, the Militia and Guildess just can't get to the mercs.
-Maybe add some more classes? Paladins and Dragon Hunters? Maybe Mages too? It's gonna get kinda insane with spells though. But perhaps with a bit of testing and balancing you can pull it off.
-P L E A S E add a Scoreboard! All this bashing and killing is fun but it gets boring after a while.
-Add arenas. Khorinis is way too large, I got tired chasing people around from the city to the Monastery just to hit them once so they'd leave the game.
-What I'd totally love is if there were different game modes, like in Halo for example. Capture the flag; King of the Hill, Odd Ball(this is probably where the spells would play a big role if they could add any); Slayer; Team Slayer(those two are my favorite mods) and so on.

But so far this is looking amazing. I'm gonna have some fun dueling with random strangers and having arranged fights versus my brother and some IRL friends.

Pvp is not ready yet ,the HP is not synchronized. The animations are bugged as hell and so on...
You know what would be interesting ? Some CASTLE defense ! 10-20 players stay in the castle of VOM ,training and getting stuff while ORCS are invading the castle ! that would be awesome :D:D

It should be still online, but it seems that the name got a bit longer, it should be something like "24/7 WOG German and internationa" now.

If this doesn't work you can still try to connect to it directly through the IP adress.

There are some instruction on the polish site.

My short version:
download the server software (windows version in my case)
edit a little the config file
make sure ports 4173 & 4174 are open
if you want a public server probably you need a fixed IP address and other things
to see if at least it works locally, start also the client, it will connect to you server automatically

@ Bas: I suggested that some castle /city defense would be awesome. Players meet ,train ,get some equipment on their taste and then some spawned orcs invade either the city of khorinis or the castle in the valley of mines

Different mod. At the time, that answer was the accurate one. Now, it isn't, and although I'm not especially interested in trying out the mod right now, I am glad the negatory answer is wrong now. Total respect to these guys for what they've achieved.

They are using RakNet 4 for perfect synchronazation (i'm not that good at english). There have been a lot of polish-only events. That is pretty much it.

It shapes up well. At one of the events an alpha version was playable. Although it still has a lot of flaws and bugs the developers are quick at fixing them. In a video it is said to be released in about 2-3 weeks if everything goes well.

No, there won't be any monsters. It is planned to work on this feature, but for now the priority is to write a multiplayer with less bugs, so that players can at least have some fun playing. Later other things might be added.

Orc attacks won't be possible as mentioned above. However "Defend the town" with players will be possible, because a team deathmatch mode is included in the new version. You can't harm your team mates. Aside from that the fight synchronisation will be improved of course and a "last man standing" respawn is also included. So "defend the town" will be possible.

I never played it so far, my gothic 2 gold cd went to a place where all good CD's go after they die:(

Do you mean the whole game is lagging? Try to reduce your sight distance then (you can do this by hotkey F1 to...F4?)

No, the keys are used for player + animation menus and the map now. You can reduce the sightrange in the options menu after accessing it with ESC key. However it sounds like his internet connection is just slow and makes it difficult for him to enjoy the game.

it freeze's when i do anything else ... but one thing that i don't understand ... i start the game going on a server and after that i get "server disconnected" and i get that error
