Hi.

I've installed Gothic II, set the graphics on full details and after leaving Xardas tower, when I'm lookin on the open landscape the number of fps drops from 75 to 14-15. Well, it's a particulary old game so I was kinda surprised. I've lower details and set resolution to 1280x960. Still the same. Set to 1024x768 - same.

Any ideas how to solve the problem? Maybe the 1.29 patch from sticked thread will do it?

My PC is C2D 2,66ghz, 2GB ram and radeon 512 mb, my version of G2 is Polish (I'm not sure how it will work with patch).

Sorry if I duplicated the thread.

§welcome to the WoP forum!

Do you have a Windows XP installed? If yes, then try to read answer #18 in the Gothic 2 Lag (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?p=12810504) thread.

Hey. Try going into Options->Extended Configuration and disable those options one at a time. One of those might be responsible (yes, even on a uber computer). If that's the case, my guess is Radial Fog, but it could be something else.

If I remember right, the last official version was 1.3x. The English version was, I think v1.31 from the start or from a patch. But I don't remember correctly, because it has been a very long time since I played Gothic 2 without the addon.

Also, are you talking about the addon or the vanilla G2? For the addon, there was a patch 2.7, I think. But I don't think that patches would ever fix performance problems on this scale. Part of the problem is that newer cards are optimised for DX9c and later whereas G1 and G2 use DX8. So, it is unlikely that anything short of a fixed driver could improve your performance.

One of the causes of this problem seems to be that despite being open world, G1 and G2 (ZenGine engine) clearly differentiate between interior and outdoor cells, especially when it comes to lighting. It is possible that when NH enters the outdoor cells, some different method of rendering is used. Nvidia had problems with that some time ago too. Unless there is much demand for a fix of such problems, it is unlikely that issues with such old games shall ever be fixed.
