Gothic 2 NOTR - Canthar Pass?

I am playing Gothic NOTR and accepted the Gate Pass from Canthar and of course nothing in life is free. In town, he wants payment for the pass: putting false evidence in a shop keepers goods. I elected to turn Canthar in to Andre. I have played the game before; but I thought it would be all right to do that and then after Canthar got arrested, I went into cell and was able to knock him out, and steal everything from him. I left and went back into the jail and saw Canthar standing up looking at me. I talked to him and he said I had done a bad thing and if I gave him 100 gold, he would forget about it. I gave him 100 gold and then he said something like, things are not done with us and he will see me later.

I thought before, I was able to kill him and that was it. I replayed the Canthar in the cell again and kept hitting him with my sword; but he would not die. Should I have not talked to him and I beat him up, should not have given him the 100 gold, or should I have not taken the pass in the first place.

Not taken the pass in the first place, imo.

You know how to kill NPCs for good, do you? That's how you can kill him properly. Nothing wrong with taking the pass (if you've ratted him out you're not losing anything in the end) but you need to use the coup the grace to kill Canthar for good. Click the prone lying body and press the up arrow to do so. Note that you should put the prison guard to sleep before.

There are multiple ways to skirt the Canthar issue, but basically whether or not you take the pass you still end up getting the quest "Canthar's Favor." But the pass is useless if you know a better way in, so take it, don't take it, it doesn't really effect the game at all.

When I plan to kill him,I go into his cell ,hit him once and get him to chase me out of town to the open field outside away from prying eyes.With nobody around I do him in,loot his body and go back to town and nobody says a thing.Sarah remains for the rest of the game.

when i play NOTR i always accept the Cantars Favor quest, give the pass to Captain Greg and i put on the farm-clothes myself. and i always put Sarah in jail. she never get out for the rest of the game.

do you get a reward from Sarah for putting Cantar in jail?
and what if you kill him?

I mean i always play it the same way, but after reading this thread i want to know: How to play this part with the most exp or other bonusses?

300 EXP for his death only. But Sarah will be alive in the 3rd chapter.

When i play i take canthar pass and then complete quest with sarah and take her into de prison ;) because when take canthar to prison in chapter 3 he will be free and Sarah dead.

You can kill him before CH3,thus leaving Sarah alive and well to continue in the game 'til the end.

Give the farm clothes to greg, and claim to be a herb-gatherer to get past the guards.
