I got to the end of Gothic 2, having beaten all of Night of the Raven with no problems, and what do I get following the final battle? I get this:
[SPOILERS BELOW...]

The movie plays where the hero slays the undead dragon, but right in the middle of it when the hero turns around after Xardas does his thing... the game just crashes to the desktop with the following insane :scared: error:

One window pops up that says:
"Gothic II has encountered a problem and needs to close."
And a second, larger window pops up that says:
"Access Violation Error." with a bunch of letters and numbers in the details.

What the heck am I supposed to do now? §cry I went through hours and hours of bug squashing and even more hours just playing the game. And all of it... just for that. §burn The stange thing is, I didn't have a single crash in Gothic 2 or NOTR until the very end. Makes no sense! :dnuhr: I even tried it with and without the Iron Keep patch. The same thing happens every time, either way. And reinstalling the game did no good. You guessed it: crash! If anyone knows what to do about this error, please help.

My solution is complex so get a pencil: hit escape.

I have awesome news! This morning, a friend of mine from work came over. She had an old copy of Gothic 2, so she copied all of her movie files from it to an .rar file and gave with a disc with the file on it. She brought it over about an hour ago, I unzipped the .rar file, and I replaced my movie files with hers. It actually worked! It seems that this is a bug that exists only with the "Gold" version of Gothic 2, and not with the "old" version (the one that comes with a demo for Arx Fatalis). So, for anyone else with this problem, you just need to delete the newer versions of the movie files and then replace them with the older ones, while leaving the NOTR movies alone. That is, if you own an older copy of Gothic 2 or (like me) happen to have a friend who owns it and is willing to help. :D It goes to show... not all that is gold, glitters! §wink
