Gothic 2 Gold wont start, error, VDFS Init Tool has encountered a problem.

Hey good sir's ma'am's, i need some help, ive already tried searching the forum's here an tried a couple thing's but still it wont run.

It ran before some couple year's ago but now it wont start after installing it again. Also AVG anti virus had gothic2.exe as a virus so i disabled AVG's resident shield. And it woudnt install while zone alarm firewall was running. Had to shut of zone alarm to install it.

Anyway's with AVG and Zone alarm off i was able to install it and i got this error while installing Night of the Raven off the 4th disc.

Error while installing Night of the Raven:
"VDFS Init Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Then i close that error message and Night of the Raven say's that it has successfully installed. And to press the Finish button.Nothing happen's when i try to start the game? The busy hourglass thing on the mouse pointer goes on for a couple seconds then nothing happen's?

Ive tried the VDFS-patch.exe file, but the install button is disabled (greyed out). and i cant install it? Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Gothic 2 gold several time's, alway's getting the same problem. I had this problem before year's ago and the vdfs-patch.exe fixed it. But i wasnt getting the "VDFS Init Tool has encountered a problem" thing while installing notr back then. Does anyone know what's the problem here?

i forgot to mention, ive tried using this also: gothic2_fix-2.6.0.0-rev2.exe. I get this msg after running it with gothic2_fix-2.6.0.0-rev2.exe "Vdfs32g.eve has encountered a problem needs to close. Then after awhile it almost load's an crash's an i get this error message. "B:VFile:err:-2 cant find file _work\data\scripts\_compiled\particlefx\.dat code:255"

Im running window's xp home edition sevice pack 2.
2.4 ghz & 1gig ram, radeon 9700 pro video card.
And i think its the English version of Gothic 2 Gold with Four disc's. The box is all in english anyways, probably the english version.

Also, way back when i had it running before it was this same pc im using now that ran it. I know my pc is old as hell, i hope to be getting a new one soon. But i know it ran this game fine way back when i played it before.

ok i got it going now. i read some other forum somewhere an all i had to do was delete Vdfs32g.exe & Vdfs32e.exe from the system folder.
It work's now with the 2.6 fix.

I hope it doesnt cause game crashes or anything. I'll post again if it's all F'ed up from taken out the 2 vdfs files. Ive only played it for 5 min's so far.

I think that you have in vain deleted files Vdfs32g.exe and Vdfs32e.exe because in a case of problems with VDFS initialization it is recommended to install Gothic II Vdfs - Patch (http://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_104.htm).

i tried that patch, it didnt want to install. The install button was greyed out.

To make "Install" button active you should specify a correct path to installed G2, for example:
C:\Games\Gothic II

I had the right path, some reason it still wouldnt install. The only folder that it would install to was _backup-2.7. Tried installing it there one time, it did nothing tho.

anyway's the game's running now, i didnt delete the 2 vdfs file's just took them out of the system folder. thx again man.
