first of all HELLO TO EVERYONE! :D
then... it's been a while that i receive the following message, both with Gothic 1 and Gothic 2, look:
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/8231/dderr3wg.jpg
i have to say that i have played G1 and G2 for a long time (i started playing G1 in 2003), and i had never had errors...
i suspect that it is for DirectX 9.0, but i am not sure...
i have an ATI RADEON 9100 and my drivers ARE NOT with catalyst...
please help, i MUST play gothic, i love it too much...
is there anyone of you that could help me?
thank you!

Try to remember what you did last with your computer. Any changes, new progs, new drivers....
Anyways, you should really use catalyst. Download the latest one. That should solve your problem. (As i see, it's a direct3d problem)

First welcome to the forum §welcome .Post something about you in the Welcome (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?t=84056&goto=lastpost) thread. Please read the Netiquette (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/announcement.php?f=208&announcementid=53) for our rules and try not to double-post. And i almost forgot, have fun here :D ...now let's see to your problem :
1. If you have ATI try to install these drivers : WIN98 (http://www.zdnetasia.com/downloads/pc/swinfo/0,39043052,39066633s,00.htm) and for WinXP (http://drivers.soft32.com/download/driver-ATI_CATALYST-24081-5.html) . Any other driver after 3.9 has problems with g2.
2. if you have win 98 try with WinXp. It might work(gothic 2 runs better under xp).
3. Change in Gothic.ini this setting : zVidResFullscreenBPP : 16 to 32. So it should be at 16 and you must change it to 32.
4. If all of these don't work delete the gothic.ini and it should regenerate a new one with compatible settings.
5. Finaly the last option : try another graphic card and if it works just let me know and i'll try to find another solution(in this case you should buy a new graphic card...we'll just try to avoid that situation no? :D ).
Edit : My bet is on number 3. Anyone wanting to place a bet? :D

Hi and §welcome to the forum!
First try to change this in the gothic.ini:
[VIDEO]
zVidResFullscreenX=1152
zVidResFullscreenY=864
zVidResFullscreenBPP=32
If it not works try to deinstall gothic, grafic-card driver and Direct-X, restart pc and then install Catalyst 3.9 and DirectX 9.0c and gothic.

Or of course you could do what Werner told you(but it's similar with no 3, the one I've placed my bet).
PS : Ok...enough spam from me today. :D , guess that I'm in a happy mood.

well i tried number 3 and it did not work...
i suspect my problem is because i've not catalyst (but the link you gave me for winXP doesn't make me downloading it :( ) or maybe it is because i should uninstall and reinstall directx 9.0
there is anyone that knows how i can remove directx?
and, does gothic works also on directx 9.0c or it has problems?

You don't have to unninstall the 9.0b. Install the 9.0c and it will update.
What win do you have?

Hmmm....i guess that you have installed directx 9.0c. This is from the video card for sure....<thinking,thinking> you should get SP2 or...i don't know....i have to search for extra info a little longer. Meanwhile try to install the 9.0c and play with graphic cards drivers(install different versions and see if any change happens)

i've got news....
i installed again 9.0a (which i'm sure works, because i've played G1 for a lot of time with 9.0a),and i have the problem any way, so it must be the driver of the card...
do you have any idea of what driver could work with gothic? i have an ATI RADEON 9200 i repeat....

ATI

Radeon (all types):
No problems.
this is from the readme of gothic so i htink that the video card is good.
About the Driver : Can a german here translate this correct please?
Bei ATI-Grafikkarten sollte entweder der aktuelle Treiber deinstalliert und die Version 3.9 des Catalyst verwendet werden, oder folgende Werte in der gothic.ini der Desktop-Auflösung angepasst werden:
zVidResFullscreenX=1024
zVidResFullscreenY=768
zVidResFullscreenBPP=32
(Die Werte können variieren)
This is one solution.
As klausiu del GOTHIC'O 2 nes pas mano draugeli radeonas 9200Se ir eina puikiai.
:confused: Can someone tell me what language is this? :confused:
Hope that someone will translate that german text.

With ATI-graphic chips you should deinstall your actual driver and use the catalyst version 3.9 or modify these (listet) values in the Gothic.ini to the one of your desctop.
Short:
- Install catalyst 3.9
or
- Type in the gothic.ini the resolution and bit value of ur desctop.
edit: Language... no idea... I typed the line in google and got a website with ending *.lt. "Litauen". Latvia?

that guy writes that when he loads G2 he gets X:XD3D_initperdx:can't d3dx contex ! Error: dderr_unsuported then he goes to DirectX and turns there DirectDraw and G2 begins to load but it shows only the film and he can't see menu, but can hear all sounds, then he goes to Direct3D and there is written that it's something with his sound card
the only advise for him is to install different video and sound drivers

i have winxp...

You should install SP2 for winxp, then update windows with automatic updater (all you can get).
Also update ALL your hardware (including MB, soundcard) to the newest (not beta)-drivers.
If you then got problems with the so called "DEP" (another inovation from Microsoft to keep the user headbanging http://mitglied.lycos.de/mmsm/seng2/seng2514.gif ),... i will help you.

01.12.2005, 19:26
well i don't have anymore that problem :D
now the matter is this: just before i get the menu i see this: (click) ===>http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1526/lol3bx.th.jpg (http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lol3bx.jpg)
and then everything becomes black... i can hear all sounds but can't see anything....
maybe it is something in the gothic.ini?
and besides, do you think that i should install also the patch 1.08K (i have J actually) when i have catalyst 3.9 and directx 9.0a?

yes i did
Do not again-install simply the driver, use best that "Driver Cleaner" (in order to remove the driver completely), see the link for detaills:
Driver Cleaner Professional Edition (http://www.drivercleaner.net/)
Install after deinstallation the Catalyst 3.9.
- deactivate: Enable table fog emulation (graphic options direct 3d properties)
- install Direct X 8.1 (shoulkd be on ur Gothic Disk)
Hi Folks, 1. of all thaks to all of you!!!
I had the (same) trouble with the DDERR Failure, and I was able to solve it in 10 minutes, just reading your posts....
Funny though, that I started having trouble only AFTER I upgraded with Catalyst... I was playing quite normally before, yesterday I installed Catalyst, and promptly I got the DDERR Failure. I desinstalled Catalyst, to no avail... I re-installed GII, no go either...
So in the end, I googled the prop, and found this page!
I read carefully through all the posts concerning this prop with the radeon (I have a 9000, running under XP home), and decided to apply all suggestions for solving this at once.
Worked like a charm! (As a definite bonus, I have a much better screen resolution and overview now, I actually that before these changes, I have only been seeing half of the screen....).
So, here are my special thanks to:
- rockfest (for the original suggestion of the Catalyst 3.9 XP and the change to BPP = 32
- Sowilo (for the further suggested changes in Gothic.ini) (besides: good translation of the german....)
OOOPS!
Sorry WernerTWC! The original suggested changes in Gothich.ini came from you!!!
My special thanks to you also!!!!!!
:eek:
