I'm playing as a Merc/Dragon Hunter, main focus is 2h with a little bow.

Is it worth investing into alchemy for the healing potions? Is there a way to learn the strength elixir and life elixir without any previous alchemy knowledge?

I know Constantino teaches the strength but who teaches the life?

Are the enough LWB in the game to make use of the many healing plants?

Completely depends on how many LP's you're willing to spend. And it takes a lot to make str potions and such. Also, getting the ingredients may be tough.

I'd say if you have enough gold, buy the potions.

The Strength elixir is definitely worthwhile if you have a strength focused character and should be learned instead of the life elixir.
You can learn the potion from Constantino if you are his apprentice or have learned at least one potion from someone else.

If you play G2 vanilla, you need to learn all 3 in either mana or healing potions to learn any permanent (all potions cost 5lp).
If you play G2 Notr this is not a requirement, but you need to know atleast 1 potion to learn from Constantino. However, 1st version of healing or mana costs only 1lp.

Permanent potions are in all cases very useful. In Notr you should try to save em aslong as possible.

i presume it is the same with a dex character and a dex elixir

Yes, the only difference is that you can learn the dex potion from Sagitta, so you don't have to learn another potion first.

I have never been limited by the number of bottles. You can buy and find enough. And you don't have to make too many potions, just as much as you need for the permanent and quest related ones (at least I never did :dnuhr: )

Well i noticed alot of plants are growing back after you pulled them. Not sure about the perm herbs or how long does it take for them to grow back.

Alright cool. I'll put the point into the basic healing pot and then save up for the strength pot. I'll just eat the dex ones as is, don't need too much in dex.

Do the ingredients for the life pot give a life bonus on their own or only when in potion form?

You're asking whether king sorrel boosts your hit points? No,it does not.

LOL planets that grow back!!
I know you meant to say plants, but your error is fun.
and so that you know, plants don't grow back at all.
it's the same in all gothic games (don't know which one you are talking about).

Then you dont have good memory, i have seen healing plants and other came back within a week. Others vary depend on what kinda plants they are. Even some creatures have respawned too.

Yeah some plants and mushrooms do grow back. Seems to be random or based on how many days have passed by and maybe even rainfall.

Creatures respawn after every chapter. The plants do not respawn i'm sure of it,same for the plants. But not the permanent ones.

1. Do the oblivion experiment for the alchemist in the harbor district and learn the basics of healing potions. (1 LP afaik)
2. Do Constantino's herb gathering quest and then he will teach you the elixir of strength for 20LP. That is a good deal.

Agree. The easiest way to learn that elixir from Constantino is done by paying a visit to ol' Ignaz first and having a talk with him. :)

Definitely worth it, imo.
Or at least it is for STR-based characters.
Getting 39 strength using only 20/21 LP is pretty darn good (especially after training costs get too high).
Throw in Embarla Firgasto, and yeah.

Probably the most LP-efficient way of increasing your strength.

Easily done with the donations to the monastery (better donate all 1000 gold, using smallest amounts) at the firemage in the market square. You'll also get some other goodies by doing so.

What? You get potion knowledge by donating?

No, you get 1 LP, which you can spend it at Ignaz, before going to Constantino. Which is pretty much the same for me, if you want to pursue alchemy particularly towards aforementioned direction.

Small edit: It may only work in NoTR, as I finished original G2 only once (years ago), and don't recall much since then.

TudoracheMG

I believe it also works in G2 Vanilla, but I am unsure about the learning points requirement for the potion.

You can also get this LP in Gothic 2 Classic.
But there every talent (hunting skills, potions, thief skills, forging, spells ...) always costs 5 LP, not 1-20 like in Notr.
