Hello WoG Community,

We are pleased to announce the latest incarnation of our G2 Patch. Due to the buggy state of our last release, we decided to scrap the old patch and rewrite this one from the ground up.

During our rewrite, we removed certain feature addons that transcended the purposes of a patch, and tried to concentrate purely on bugfixing. Due to this, we have decided to remove the Alternative Balancing system from our patch, as it caused several issues, particularly in our latest release, without being truly necessary.

We have also implemented a workaround for Windows 7-NVidia GPU users suffering from outdoor rendering issues. The option is available in the custom install. You do not need to install it if you are not suffering from the above issues.

Finally, this will be the last version of our patch. We have no immediate plans to do any more work patching G2, and we are currently debating support for the W7-NV workaround. We thank you for your continued interest and support. And without further ado, download away :).

Best Wishes,

Korianous

I am playing G2 NotR with CP v2.0 now.
If i want to upgrade to v2.10, do i need to start a new game after upgrading,
or can i continue from my current save-game?

and did you also fix the conversation problems (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?p=13235923&#post13235923) in the bandit camp?

It's highly recommended that you do so.

Should be fixed, yep, since afaik we never had that problem with earlier versions and we started this one from scratch.

Recommended but what kind of issues are we looking at if it's installed with the old patches?

I have the 2.0 running with the 1.0a AB running. I couldn't figure out how to install the Elite Orc AI hotfix, so they are broken.

I've invested quite a bit into clearing everything possible in chapter one and just started chapter three. Would hate to lose that 40ish hours.

Though thank you very much for your hard work. If it does require a restart I suppose I will wait for some more finalized version for a second play through. The way of the mage is calling my name.

We recommend you don't do so, but it's your choice. Stuff may not work as intended though, so if something goes wrong, we may not be able to reproduce your errors and such.

This is the last version, so, about as final as it gets.

Oh snap. So with the AB gone does that mean that stats go back to the old way? 2:1 after 30?

Yep. AB was just causing more problems than it was helping. I'm considering working on a new version of HoP, with the updates from the patch, to replace AB (Ironic, as I was considering using AB to replace HoP initially). I'll let you guys know how that goes.

Sounds good.

I take it if this patch is installed over what I have that the 1.0a AB will stay put. That way I can have both.

Unfortunately not, since the AB Gothic.dat will conflict with the .dat of the patch.

I have some problems with this patch. I installed G2 and NotR and attempted to install the patch. At the end I got an error saying that it couldn't create the uninstaller and it aborted the installation. I attempted to unstall the patch from the Add/Remove Programs control panel which didn't work (not surprisingly). I then attempted to re-run the tool and it just says that it's already installed.

I uninstalled G2, deleted the directored, rebooted, reinstalled G2 and NotR, rebooted and attempted to install the patch again but it still thinks it's installed and won't let me install it again.

Fortunately I was smart enough to have made a copy of my G2 directory before I uninstalled anything so I still have the copy that has the ICP installed in it but given the error I originally got is there a way I can verify that the patch was in fact installed?

And a couple of follow up questions. It's not clear if this is a standalone patch or if I was supposed to install a previous version first. It seems like it's a complete patch but I wanted to double check.

Also I see the changelog above; is that just for version 2.10 or does that include changes made in all the versions? If not, where might I be able to find the changelogs for earlier releases?

Yes, it shouldn't require a previous version.

If not, where might I be able to find the changelogs for earlier releases?

On the first post you can find the changelog for the previous versions:

Unfortunately not, since the AB Gothic.dat will conflict with the .dat of the patch.

So there is no way to have the best of both worlds?

Tough decision.

I don't know if this is all in my head, but the camera seems worse than it used to be. Especially in combat, the hero tends to block my view of the enemy...

You could just zoom out a bit...

Only the things listed in the changelog for 2.10 have been implemented, this patch is cleaned up and rewritten from scratch.

I'm sorry for the retarded question..I've been trying to follow the development of this patch and most important - how to install it.

So,after all what do I need to successfully install it over my NOTR v2.7(eng)? Wasn't there some other "patch" that turns it to 2.6 or something???Really messed up that part...thanks in advance for any plain explanation!

Do you have to have NOTR to install this patch? If I have to then I'm a bit screwed because I can't find the game in any of the stores.

Looks like I'll have to download it from there to get gothic 2 gold. Thanks for helping.

When I tried to install the patch, on Gothic 2 Gold (with the add-on installed) it shows me this message, without letting to continue the install. I tried the installation on G2+NotR+CP2.0 and even on a fresh install G2+NotR.

So, as you can see in the picture, it says something supporting update from 1.0 to 2.10 and that I have 1.0 and this cannot be updated???
I don't get it...what could be the problem?

@Epsilonn - I'm not sure. The installer is buggy sometimes, but it sometimes has installed the patch anyway, just check your directory. If not, try manually extracting the files and copying them over.

@CrashMorraKan - Did you install the Windows 7 nvidia fix? If so, that might be the source of your problem. Uninstall/Reinstall Gothic 2, and only install 2.10, and make sure the Windows 7 nVidia fix is unhooked in the setup options.

Korianous: no, i didn't install it, i went to "custom" and this was unchecked so i didn't install it... or maybe... after i was in the custom option i moved back and installed the "typical" one maybe that is the reason?

Right, before I can figure out why is this setup-maker hating me so much and before I can finally port the project to InstallShield, which I've been meaning to do for a long time, here you go, a good old rar (http://www.ironkeepworldwide.com/ik/products/g2cp/g2icp_v2.10_archived.rar)-ed version of the 2.10 patch.

Just extract to your root gothic 2 gold folder.

About the setup and uninstall: Maybe the problem is that the installer tries to put his uninstaller thing in program files instead of the same path as the patch files.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IronKeep Studios\Gothic II Gold - IronKeep Community Patch]
"Directory"="G:\\Gothic2"
"Version"="2.10"
"Uninstaller"="C:\\Program Files\\JoWooD Productions Software AG\\Gothic II Gold\\ICP\\Uninstall.exe"

Edit: after some testing, I think that's the problem. As soon as I created those folders in Program Files (Jowood...., Gothic II Gold and ICP), the uninstaller didn't complained anymore.

I remember you've mentioned this before, and for this release - I was specifically looking for this problem. For me though, the registry entry is correct. I never had the problem with uninstalling the patch. Anyways, like I said, next release (if there will ever gonna be one - InstallShield). For now - use the rar.

I had a similar problem, but I have CCleaner installed and if you go to the tools section, you can uninstall G2-notr and patches there, even if you tried to uninstall it with control panel --> remove programs or by choosing uninstall in the start --> programs menu.

Try this link if you don't have the program already. http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner

I installed the patch the manual way using the rar archive provided in this forum because the .exe of the patch seemed to not be working for me.
The patch is installed on a fresh Gothic 2 + NotR.
Anyway, now it gives me this error when I start the game:

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/7251/errorzu.jpg

P.S. The game always worked for me before without a problem using the v1.0a of the CP.

What could be wrong now?

Edit:

The source of the problem seems to be the ddraw.dll file in the system folder that comes with the patch...I got it out of the system folder of the game where it was copied and now the game workes....but I don't know if the .dll file was overwritten or if it is new or what it does...what can you tell me about this?

Hi,

I did this using "frog" to extract the files. First of all, if I tried to save the rar file, it was corrupt. I had to open it and let it save the files to my temp folder. Then I extracted the files using frog. Then I tried to run the program clicking on the shortcut on my desktop. Again, it tried to install the patch and gave the error msg about textures and drivers etc not being up to grade, which is not true. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

Probably it's the "Windows 7 - Nvidia video cards problem" fix. If you don't have that unlucky combination, don't use the fix.

Yes, you are probably correct. The system I am trying to run this on is XP. So if I use the *.rar files, how do I use "frog" to extract the files without extracting the Win 7 fix files? Sorry, new to rar/frog.

Thanks, AllieB

^ Yes indeed, the three .dlls are the Win7 nVidia fix. Don't use it otherwise.

Weird. The rar was made with WinRar 3.70, with no special settings. Any winrar should be able to handle it. Maybe the file wasn't fully downloaded. I get that sometimes with really big files. It's as if the file only waits so long to be downloaded, before it ends prematurely.

As for the thing that new .exe is in German instead of English, that's no problem and it's intended.
Why? I find I am unable to run the program - I get the same problem starting G2 NotR as other members have reported. I have the English version of G2 Gold (the 4 disc set) on Windows XP 64-bit.

I also have the same problem of the installation of the patch aborting because it is unable to configure the uninstaller. Should I just let the patch install to the directory it starts with (but which doesn't happen to be the same directory my Gothic II folder is in?)?

How do I fix this problem of my Gothic2.exe being in German? Please help! I've had to uninstall and reinstall this game about 5 times so far. §cry

And I don't suppose someone could direct me to a level-balancing mod (that is compatible with the English version of G2 gold)? I really dislike how G2 links the melee and ranged skill progression (e.g. can't advance 2-hander without increasing 1-hand weapons), and the hefty LP cost of increasing stats past certain levels (as in, must spend 2 LP to get 1 point increase in Strength, etc.). I'm (trying) to play G2 for the very first time, and the increased difficulty due to NotR is extremely frustrating and discouraging.

Larisa
02.08.2010, 16:19
And now, again: Having the German Gothic2.exe (version 2.6(fix)) instead of the English Gothic2.exe (version 2.7) should not lead to problems. The German one, even if lower in version number, is better (it allows for more readable error messages and you can install modifications with it).
The only thing in German would be the splash screen.
The menus, dialogs in game and other stuff doesn't depend on that .exe file.

The installer for 2.10 fails with the "uninstaller problem" because it doesn't find some folders already created.
Use the manual way: on the first page of this thread is a link to a .rar archive. Use its contents to overwrite your files in G2's folder. But remember to delete these 3 files from Gothic2\System: ddraw.dll libwine.dll and wined3d.dll, since those could help only if you have Windows 7 AND an nvidia graphics card.

As for your exact problems starting G2, please elaborate. What exactly is the problem?

I'm (trying) to play G2 for the very first time, and the increased difficulty due to NotR is extremely frustrating and discouraging.

Since you have the 4 disks set, you could stop with the 3rd and not install NotR.
True, if you want to play the NotR region/story, you'll have to play a good part of G2 again.
I would recommend to try G2 for the first time without NotR.

Thanks for the fast reply, Larisa.

The problem when I try to run G2 with the 2.10 patch:

1) Without the patch, when I click on the G2 NotR shortcut, the little picture of a Raven and "The Night of the Raven" logo appears. However, with the 2.10 patch installed, the text is "Das Nacht des Raben"

2) When I start G2 NotR for the first time, I usually get a pop up about the Virtual Disk File System. The text is in English. With the 2.10 patch, the text is in German.

3) Without the patch (or with the 2.00 ironkeep patch) the VDFS completes and Gothic 2 gold runs without a hitch. With the 2.10 patch, VDFS fails, and I receive the same error as CrashMorraKan here (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?p=13416117&#post13416117).

Needless to say, with the 2.10 patch installed, I can't run G2 Gold at all. I could go back to 2.00, but I'd rather run the latest and greatest version of the patch.

OS: Windows XP 64-bit
GPU: nVidia GTX 260
RAM: 3GB

The uninstaller problem isn't really that big of an issue. I had the same error with the 2.00 patch, and everything seemed fine. I use the ReVo Uninstaller (freeware version of the program) to get rid of the Windows registry entries. In fact, with 2.00 (which, unlike 2.10, didn't detect if it was installed already), if I ran the installer again, it didn't put up any errors about the uninstaller.

NOTE: I've played G2 Gold for about a week and never had it crash on me (unlike Gothic 1!). Whether I play for 30 minutes or 3 hours, the game hasn't even once crashed on me.

1) Without the patch, when I click on the G2 NotR shortcut, the little picture of a Raven and "The Night of the Raven" logo appears. However, with the 2.10 patch installed, the text is "Das Nacht des Raben"

Like I said before, that's normal. Can't be changed, unless you choose not to install the new .exe file.

2) When I start G2 NotR for the first time, I usually get a pop up about the Virtual Disk File System. The text is in English. With the 2.10 patch, the text is in German.

That's normal again, I guess the german .exe will use the Vdfs32g.exe instead of Vdfs32e.exe. The result should be the same, only that splash screen would be in DE instead of EN.
Indeed, the vdfs will be built when you start the game for the first time, or if the game crashes.

3) Without the patch (or with the 2.00 ironkeep patch) the VDFS completes and Gothic 2 gold runs without a hitch. With the 2.10 patch, VDFS fails, and I receive the same error as CrashMorraKanhere (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?p=13416117&#post13416117).

Try to look inside Gothic2\System folder. If you have the 3 .dll files I've mentioned before, delete them, and try again.

The two wine-related .dlls and the direct draw dll? Okay, got rid of them. Game started up just fine, and it is in English (aside from the NotR logo being in German)! :D Thanks for you fast replies, Larisa.

One last question, I'm not sure where to put it - where in the Gothic.ini can I remove mouse-wheel-up and mouse-wheel-down as zooming in and out? I've mapped those two functions to attack left and attack right. So, in combat, the camera zooms in and out every time I attack left or right, which is a bit silly at best and rather troublesome at worst. I wouldn't mind replacing zoom in and out with Pgup and pgdn (page up and page down).

I know my graphics card is a beast compared to this game, but enabling all the Extended Configuration options (and the anti-aliasing setting in the .ini; however, I've left the resolution at 800x600 32-bit) does lead to some stuttering framerates. Is the game engine having compatibility issues with my graphics card (I've noted several work-around features in the .ini file regarding such things)? Is there another forum thread that I should post these sorts of questions in?

Yes, since these are about G2 and not about the 2.10 patch, try the Help (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=219) forum.

Would it be possible to make the new installer to offer the option to install the 7+nvidia fix only if certain conditions are met? Like if the detected os is 7 and not xp? And possibly if the card is nvidia and not something else?

I've read some posts and it makes me think that some people just press next, next, next, without reading what the installer or the readme says.

As I'm still running this version of the patch (with the 1.0a AB)

I just hit chapter four and not too long into the VoM I was stuck in that infinite loop with Biff. I know it's listed as being fixed but it could be because of my inclusion of the AB. It's also listed as being fixed in the 2.10 patch as well, so maybe it didn't work properly in this one.

Is there a way around this?

If not, how important is he? Does he say or do much that is of value? I was able to just kill him to get out of the loop, but I'd rather not if there is information and story to be told.

The AB automatically overshadows the normal patch and you're using the 1.0a AB, which doesn't contain the fix. To get all the fixes from 2.0/2.10, you must not have an AB of an earlier version.

Obviously, since there is no 2.10 equivalent AB, you can't use any AB at all to get the newest fixes.

Is he at all important or have anything useful to say/do? If not I have no issue just killing him off.

Hi again. I'm still a little confused as to:
- how to install and run mods for Gothic 2 gold
- what mod compatibility issues I need to be aware of

I want to use the LP Balancing mod. However, I don't seem to have a "Gothic Starter .exe" file (???), which (unless I'm mistaken) seems to be necessary in order to launch the game with mods? If I do go use the LP Balancing mod, will I also benefit from the Ironkeep 2.10 patch? Or, are the two mods mutually exclusive (i.e. I can only use one mod in the game)?

Apologies for my ignorance. If I have this in the wrong thread, please direct me to a more appropriate venue.

A little bugreport (with the installer):

1. Unlike a previous version of the patch i tried, the latest version seems to be able to detect where i've installed Gothic 2. However! If i uninstalled the patch and the game and reinstalled both it cannot detect installation dir correctly anymore. I tried deleting all leftover registry keys for both Gothic 2 and community patch after i uninstalled them, it didn't change anything. I have the game installed in "C:\Games\Gothic 2 Gold", but for some reason the installer now defaults to "C:\Program Files (x86)\JoWooD Productions Software AG\Gothic II Gold\" or somesuch. Can't check right now, i'm at work.
2. When i uninstall the patch, everything including registry keys gets left behind and any further attempts to reinstall the patch result in failure. Installer says, that the same version is already installed and refuses to continue until registry keys are manually removed.
3. The installer finished correctly only first time for me. Now, even after uninstalling everything and removing registry keys manually and reinstalling game + patch, the patch installer gives an error in the end. it also says it's reverting, but as far as i can see all the new files and registry keys are still in place.

In case you're interested i have Windows 7 x64. Should i perhaps use the installer in compatibility modes/run as admin?

Edit:
Running the patch as administrator does not change a thing. When trying to install the patch, the installer still: 1. fails to recognize my install directory; 2. gives an error in the end about failure to configure uninstaller and says, it's reverting changes; 3. Fails to revert said changes, registry keys and new files are still there after the installer says it has failed.

Ps. Something else i noticed. In the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\IronKeep Studios\Gothic II Gold - IronKeep Community Patch" the value for installation directory is correct, but the value for Uninstaller points to "C:\Program Files (x86)\JoWooD Productions Software AG\Gothic II Gold\ICP\Uninstall.exe". That's probably why uninstall does nothing as this directory does not exist in my system.

Ok, that'll teach me to read the whole thread before chiming in. One other issue that i didn't see anyone mentioning (pardon me, if i'm being blind again). From descriptions for the installation choices i'd say the installer shouldn't copy the wine dlls over if you choose the default installation options, but in fact it does. Bug or oversight?
Anyway, i got the patch files and judging by the news from Nvidia it looks like i'll be one happy camper for a few weeks (gotta play all these mods i couldn't play during the last two years due to owning a video card made by a certain company.
Anyway, i'd like to thank all the people who were involved in making this patch. If i have some real bugs to report, or suggestions to make about the next version of the patch i'll do so. Now off to play.

Could you tell me please how to revert back (after ICP 2.10 installation) the splash image from "Die Nacht des Raben" (also, after insalling it, VDFS text is in German as well) to "Night of the Raven", and Original Gothic II loading screen to NoTR loading screen?

Both are directly related to the exe. An older DE exe was put into 2.1 by accident. You can just use the exe from 2.0 (that one has the english splash screen).

The german text is from ar.exe. Not exactly sure how to work around that.

As for loading screens - it actually varies from localization to localization. We built ours based on Gothic II Gold. I can only think of the russian one having the "NotR" loading screen.

1. OK, let me see if I got this right: there is a particular .exe file called DE.exe that comes with ICP installer (v2.10), and I should replace it from version v2.0 of the patch (I never installed that one)? I looked into my G2 directory, but I couldn't find such a thing. Could you please elaborate?

2. I know that ar.exe file, but, to be honest, never bothered with it, (I have no clue what that file is for) so I'll take your words for granted.

3. Russian version have that NotR (water mages) loading screen? I bought it back then from a local shop, called Diverta (http://www.dol.ro/magazin/) (iirc), and it was definitely in English. I find it weird a bit, but, as you say, it may vary. I'm not all that anxious about it, it's just that I got used to that, and I usually stick to old habits.

Cheers.

DE.exe

DE exe. As in the Deutsche version of the Gothic2.exe

So, you should look for the ICP 2.0 package, extract the gothic2.exe from that and use it.

Edit: as for the text, I don't think ar.exe is responsible, but Vdfs32g.exe and its .dll (which is used by the report version as opposed to Vdfs32e.exe, used by an English exe)

Try this: make a backup of the 4 original files: Vdfs32g.exe Vdfs32g.dll Vdfs32e.exe Vdfs32e.dll
Then delete the 2 files that have a g after 32.
Then rename the remaining 2 files by exchanging the e with a g.
And perhaps VDFS.DMP needs to be deleted or a mod started for the vdfs to be recreated.

About the loading screen, I don't know what you mean. What image exactly (perhaps show a screenshot)?

I did try that, but it seems the approach must be handled in a different way, since I only got some "cannot start the game due to Vdfsg.dll missing" error. And yes, that .DMP file is indeed required for VDFS recreation.

About loading screen: I mean the screen after you press Load / New Game - in original Gothic 2 it showed an orc warrior to the left with a raised lizzard sword in his hand, and near to him Nameless (I think so) in Raven Guard Armor with a raised sword in his hand, the image being overall in rather grayish color (this image appeared after I installed ICP v2.10). In my NoTR version (2.7), after clicking Load / New game, the screen was blueish with 3 Water Mages on it.

Hmm, I did to myself what I suggested to you and I got kinda the same error. But then I copied back from backup the 2 English files, since my copy complained that it didn't find vdfs32e.exe. And now by deleting the .dmp file and starting Gothic2.exe the vdfs creation is displayed with English text.

So, to be clear. All 4 files are the En ones, just 2 of them have the G instead of E in their name.

There might be even more elegant solutions (or this one could lead to problems, although I doubt that).

Edit: about the loading screen...

So, in the end, you want this:
http://upload.worldofplayers.de/files6/Loading2.jpg

or this:
http://upload.worldofplayers.de/files6/Loading.jpg

I looked inside ICP2.1 texture vdf and there was no loading screen file, so I guess the change is done from scripts. :dnuhr:

This is a consequence of Windows 7 NVIDIA Fix installation. You shouldn't install it in a following cases:
- if your OS isn't a Windows 7;
- if you have any non-NVIDIA videocard;
- if you have a NVIDIA videocard with drivers 260th series or later.

I face a problem in the Addonworld. I am unable to complete the quest about killing the bandits in the tower south of the Pirate Camp.

I first got the mission from the palisade builder chap who demands 500 gold to let you in and drops the price depending on certain quests you complete. I see three bandits there but when I kill them, the quest doesn't update. Whenever I say "About the bandits..." the man at the gate keeps saying that he'll send a two-man raiding party to take care of them. Later, when I join his raiding troop, he keeps saying that the tower is to the southwest. Even Greg says that the bandits at the tower should have been taken care of by Francis.

And all the while, the bandits are dead. I even enabled Marvin mode, and clipped through the tower and whatnot to see if one of the bandits was stuck somewhere out of sight but there were none.

It's not a very important quest, and certainly not game breaking but it still cost me 200 gold more than it should have (if 200 gold is the reduction in entry fee by killing the bandits).

Alright. So here's a completely stupid question I'm sure.
I got my hands on Gothic Gold 2, which is 3 cd's. I install it, then I install the fourth CD... which is the add-on Night of the Raven.
I then used your 2.10 rar patch since I was having the typical exe installer issues, and it seems to boot up NotR everytime. Is it meant to be like this? I'm completely new to Gothic 2 as well as this patch... How am I supposed to play the original? Did something glaringly stupid go wrong or is that normal?

For Gold? Usually 'Gold' means G2 + NotR. If you want something for G2 without NotR installed, don't mention "Gold". :D

I don't know what version is the English G2 vanilla, the latest official patch is 1.30. Read this post (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?p=2885656&#post2885656) for more details.

And just in case this isn't clear, you don't lose everything from the original game when you install NotR. It's not an independent add-on. NotR makes changes to some of the rules and mechanics of the original games, adds a few quests and alters some of the contents of the areas in the original game and then also adds an entirely new area that you are free to go to and from as you please (once you get access to it).

The original game is still there and you still play it, it's just tweaked a bit by having NotR installed.

RDCL

So NotR just adds a new intro and you eventually do end up playing through the original quest line just as you would without? Thanks for gumming it down for me guys, can't imagine why I'm still a tad lost ;)

TazmanianD

Yes. You can think of NotR like adding a new room to your house plus replacing a few pieces of your existing furniture and maybe remodeling your bathroom. Your house is still there but it's now bigger and better.

NotR does change some of the rules a bit that make for a more challenging game. If you like a challenge and don't mind seriously getting your butt kicked when you first start playing, then by all means install G2+NotR. If you want an easier introduction to the Gothic universe than install and play G2 without NotR. Also note that you cannot change your mind. Once you start playing with or without NotR you have to start all over if you want to change.

I've personally never played without NotR and I loved it the first time I played.

Just tested the patch briefly five minutes ago. There seemed to be slow-down of the flow in the game. On my hardware without the patch Gothic II Night of the Raven ran perfectly fine even when visual range/fade was set to 300%. After I installed the patch I saw the ''pause'' (decrease in frame per second) in every new area I happened to explore. I suspected it had something to do with the new textures - component of the patch.

Dimus
17.06.2011, 16:41
@ zelazko:
You are right, the ICP v2.10 contains an optional texture pack for NotR. Therefore if you think that it causes a FPS decrease, then you should delete Textures_ICP.vdf file from the Data folder.

Zelazko

Thanks for the hint how to delete the texture-improvement component. :3

Now the game runs perfectly fine, no slow-downs in frame per second. Seems like the texture-patch needs some time to warm up. :D

So far no new bugs.

Can anybody please explain to me what is the difference between Gothic II Gold: ICP v1.0a and Gothic II - Community Patch v2.10 ?
It looks to me like both are bugfix patches and both are for Gold version.
Should I install them both?

Do you REALLY unable to see the differences between outdated (ICP v1.0a) and actual (CP v2.10) versions of patch for G2 NotR?

Thanks to a guy form themodders forum I know how to fix that logo.

You gotta download ResHacker or Restorator prgoram. Then open the Gothic2.exe with either ResHacker or Restorator and replace the logo - it is in the bitmap folder. Remember to keep the same name of a file you make changes to in this case it is 1031.bmp - that's the logo.

Only editing the exe isn't exactly "allowed". The report version was authorised by the devs and thus we can use that to replace our own, but editing the exe on our own can be viewed as trying to overcome the CD-check. (Since it is present to date for some localisations) This topic is a bit blurry, so best to simply backup the old "English" exe and then put it back after you install the patch. None of the fixes are in the exe anyway and you can use the old one just as well. The only reason why the report version is there, is because it allows the install of some other mods.

Imho editing a file for your own, without distributing it and especially since it's not about removing a copy protection... I say it's nothing wrong. It's fair use.

Although I can't understand why that little German text can bug people so much. You see it for 1-2 seconds.

For personal use it's fine of course, as long as it doesn't touch the copy protection. My reference here is the Returning mod. I don't know about subsequent patches (I only played the original Russian release version), but the first one had a custom exe, that had no copy protection, in spite of the fact that the Russian akella localization did have a cd-check at that time. Well, that came to pass and nothing happened. But I still feel it's best to inform people about this.

But, like I said, just use your old exe. They all work just as well.

This is my first post, but I've been following this forum for more than 6 years.
So right to the question :) I would like to ask if the file Camera.dat located in _work\Data\Scripts\_compiled is connected only to the camera improvements of the patch and will it affect anything else if I don't overwrite this file?

Thanks in advance!

pardon me if this an stupid question, but by comparing the changelog against this older script-patch from fizzban http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?t=44029 i noticed some of his fixes missing in the community-patch. Also in a quicksearch in the posts I was unable to find them mentioned. maybe they could be integrated, too? cheers

Yes, our patch does not include those fixes, because it was built from the ground up based on the original scripts. It doesn't however mean that more fixes shouldn't be included.

Hello. I've installed Gothic 2 Gold + NotR (english) and this patch.
1. Is this patch for english version ?
2. The installer fails to create the uninstaller. Is this a problem ?
3. I have no failed quest in G2 (I think they just disappear). Why ?
4. I have many crashes (game freezes and then acces violation errors). My PC
has Win7 x64, AMD X4 Phenom, nVidia 460 GTX, 8 Gb RAM. The game or the patch causes the crashes ?
5. The game was at version 2.7 and after the patch is at 2.6. Is that OK?
Hope that somebody will clear out some of this questions. Thanks.

Right, let's see.

1. - yes
2. - known problem, you can safely ignore
3. - that is weird. You did start a new game after installing the patch, didn't you?
4. - That could likely be due to installing the nvidia fix. It is no longer required, as nVidia have released a proper fix for Gothic 2. Go to your Gothic 2 directory, then go to "System" and see if you have the following files there: ddraw.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll. If you do, delete/move them and see if it changes anything.
5. - it's fine. The new exe is the so called "report version". Whenever there is a crash, it returns back more meaningful feedback and it is also a prerequisite for many mods.

That's weird, on both accounts. I'm guessing you did install the newest ForceWare for nVidia, right? As for the quests, the ultimate test would be to try the game without the patch and see if you can fail those, otherwise - this is a first.

Part of the translation is in ou.bin, and another part is indeed in Gothic.dat. But Gothic.dat does indeed include all of the game scripts, so yeah - by replacing that file you effectively nullify 95% of the patch.

Sorry, but this way may be too complex for newbies:
1. Decompile English game scripts from CP v2.10 (gothic.dat & ou.bin) via Spacer 2 or Gothic Sourcer.
2. Replace all English texts in project with a Polish ones.
3. Compile modified project - you'll get Polish game scripts.
4. Replace English game scripts with a Polish ones.

You could simply replace the ou.bin with a polish one, that file only contains dialoge lines. The other stuff, like item names, the dialog choices, etc. will still be in English, as those are stored in Gothic.dat

Also, there is that persisting problem with sourcer induced errors upon decompilation, which need to be fixed every time. Is that true for Spacer 2 as well?

I've started a new game and I had a failed quests with Rengaru (I think - I've let him go after the chase). Then I started a new game but with the patch applyed. I can upload a savegame for "analysis" if that will lead to the bug that's causing my failed quests not to appear. And I have the latest drivers/win patches applyed and antivirus protection (if an virus or something where the problem).

Am re-investigating Gothic II as I'd played it and enjoyed it years ago, so I repurchased Gothic II, Gothic 3, and Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods a couple of months ago in a sale package from Steam--at a price so low I'm embarrassed to quote it (yet overjoyed at such a good deal!) Currently I am taking my time with G2, using both your mod here 2.6(fix) to replace the 2.7 Steam version--got plenty of time to get into the other games later. Ah--so many games--so little time!...;)

I'm not using your texture mod as I found another which I believe is probably better (released later than yours): It's Vurt's G2 texture mod as described here, which I am sure you know all about...I like it a lot so far:http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11732

Just thought I'd reiterate that Steam, of course, does away with the CD/DVD check (since you don't get a disk with a Steam game.) Interestingly enough there were no conflicts in installing your 2.10 patch with Steam, and I did nothing except substitute your 2.6(fix) version for the 2.7 version of the executable included with the Steam version, along with the other files from the .rar version of the patch. So now the game works whether I've got Steam running or not--but I can still run Steam and start the game from the Steam interface without a problem. I'm pretty happy about it as it all seems like fair use to me...;)

And the German text on the little splash screen and in the cache rebuilding text box bothers me not at all...;) It's a shame you guys had such problems with the re-balancing you originally tried to do--it looked like a herculean, well-intentioned effort--so I know it must've been galling to have to drop that part of the project. Thanks so much for all your hard work!

Ok, guys... I spent about an hour trying to find a good link to the manual install of the community patch. The installer didn't work and prevented me from attempting a re-install. Every link was dead, except for one on the 5th page (in the above quote). Considering that all other links died, I decided to create a torrent for this patch. Even if the link on the 5th page dies, if a few people seed this, then the patch will be around for a long time and allow many people to play this amazing game, nearly bug-free. Please, help me seed this! Thanks, everyone.

Just thought I'd chime in.. ^it's good that you put a rar file up. It's bad that it takes 2 hours for it to download from a torrent site.:)

A simple solution to the patch not running correctly if you get the error "2.10 already installed." or if you want to "manually" install it is to run the patch to where it wants to run. "Jowood productions software AG." and then manually move the patch to where you have gothic 2 installed overwriting existing data.

If you get the error "2.10" already installed." run regedit and do a file search for the ironkeep studio folder. Delete the ironkeep folder containing gothic 2 patch info and patch.exe will now run again.

Yeah, that is too bad. Of the 20 or so people that have downloaded it, not one has decided to help me upload it...

The main problem was that it couldn't be installed after the first failed attempt. See below.

I spent half an hour in regedit to make sure I got every key related to Ironkeep. Even after deleting them all, it still wouldn't run. The only option was to use the manual install, which unfortunately, proved more time-consuming to find then I had originally thought. Which is the main reason I posted this. Had someone else done this, it would've made my life so much easier. I figured I'd help the next poor guy who ran into this crap.

Wow.. that's weird that it wouldn't install after deleting the registry. Mine was in hkey_local_machine\software\wow6432node\Ironkeep studios. "windows 7" (I always forget about the patch doing this when I decide to re-visit this game and then end up having to figure it out all over again :) )

Is it not allowed to use a free file sharing site like 4shared or something?

Now I'm trying to figure out the widescreen thing again.. I swore I had it figured out before and you didn't have to trigger a conversation to keep the aspect correctly but maybe that's a false memory. Kind of bugging me because I die a lot.

Well, I know that the game was kind of "under the radar" so I didn't think many people would be looking for the patch. I made a torrent, because I was hoping I'd get a few people helping to upload it. And as long as just one person is uploading it, it'll always be there. I figured the last thing the game needed was another dead link, lol.

I've just installed the patch and it has overwritten half of the polish texts in the game, so I want to get rid of it.
Unfortunately, it didn't install correctly as for most people here (the uninstaller is not there), so I can't. Also, I can't reinstall the game because I don't have it at hand at the moment (and won't have for the nearest month).
I hope and assume that the uninstaller is contained in the .rar of the patch, which would allow me to return to the original version, so
could somebody please reupload that .rar?
It will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello.
I have the german Gold version of the game, but it seems everytime I install the patch, the dialouge fix is applied too. This turns all the dialouge options into english. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
Also before you ask: Yes I did uncheck the box during installation of the patch.
Hope someone can help me with this, even though it is not a gamebreaking issue.

Edit: I was able to resolve the issue by not overwriting the vanilla Gothic.dat with the patched Gothic.dat.
Does anybody know if this means that some of the patch changes are not applied?

Ironkeep instead of realease an exe file that often doesn't even work (and it isn't "uncompressable" either with 7zip or winrar) could you make a zip, rar, 7zip file containing every files we need (gothic.dat, ou.bin, ecc..). Because it is quite ugly to realease somthing in that way unless it is a whole program. I'd alwalys like to have a portable version

After extracting the archive in root directory (in my case it is C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Gothic 2 Gold) the game showed the usual Gothic2 has stopped working error. Then i read Epsilonn's post (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/848246-Release-Gothic-II-Community-Patch-v2-10/page2?p=13459716&viewfull=1#post13459716) and removed ddraw.dll from extraction - the game now works.
Then i read this lovely Larisa's FAQ (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/848246-Release-Gothic-II-Community-Patch-v2-10/page3?p=13538925&viewfull=1#post13538925), i removed wined3d.dll and libwine.dll - the game still works.
I am running a laptop with integrated Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset and Win7.
